Seriously, save your pennies and go to an actual, proper match, if you want excitement.

Even then, it's not guaranteed, but at least there'll be something riding on it.”

I thought (obviously misguidedly) that a testimonial would at least feature at least one goal, as I thought that they were taken even less seriously than a pre-season friendly.

Boy was I mistake, at least with Scholes and Gary Nev's testimonials, there was a fair bit more excitement than this one.

I understand that you feel a bit deflated, but no game is guaranteed goals.

Especially a friendly, days before the real stuff kicks off.

Perhaps this'll perk you up. Mourinho, before the game:

“We are going to sign one more player for sure. I don’t want to speak about Paul (Pogba) because he is a Juventus player and I don’t like other managers to speak about my players. I don’t speak about their players.

“But the reality is we are going to sign one more player. The market closes, as you know, August 31 so we have plenty of time to do that, but I’d like to do it before the Premier League starts.”

Expectations for a pre-season, friendly charity kick-about couldn't have been that high, could they?

I think a game against another PL side, 4 days before the Community Shield, was never going to be action-packed.

I remember going to a preseason game against Juventus on a freebie a few years ago, it was also 0-0 and similarly tedious.

Apparently most interesting thing to happen was Mourinho was sat on a chair in front of the dugout.

Two theories I have on this highly important subject:

1) It's a testimonial and a lot of subs, rather than the usual 7, therefore more space was needed on the bench itself

2) He's superstitious. He didn't sit in the dugout during the Unicef game either, maybe he wants first time he sits in the dugout to be when it matters in a proper game.

Let's discuss this for several hours.

True no game is ever guaranteed goals, but again I misguidedly thought a kickabout that was worth less than a friendly might have, my mistake.

Those quotes sound good, hopefully this Pogba deal is resolved sooner rather than later, if he is to be available for the Bournemouth game.

Doing better than Ronnie Wallwork, then.

That just makes you sound like a sex offender.

Yeah I have heard of him, shame he never made it in the game, but good luck to him in his venture.

He drives a van, not a venture.

He takes the "d" out of adventure, eh? Sounds exciting.

A clean sheet. Get in!

Martial looking a bit rusty though.

Loving Zlatan.

I was out tonight, so didn't get to see the game. I've read that him and Rooney linked up pretty well, not that it means much in a game like this, obviously.

What did you think?

They played better together tonight than during the Galatasary game imo. Despite his age he still looks class, looks a goal threat.

It wasn't a great game tbf, the first half was better than the second, we certainly looked in control then. So many different subs in the second half for both teams though.

Shaw looking good too.

Well I hope Rodney had a good testimonial.

I wonder if Liverpool's Rob "Trigger" Jones was there?

I know it was a friendly last night, but the Zlatan/Rooney partnership needs some work on it. I'm not bothered over the lack of pace between them. We know that both of them can work openings and score goals despite age creeping up on them both. What concerned me was how often both of them seemed to drift into similar positions. It's something to watch in the next few weeks.

Due to the lack of games this pre season it was to be expected that it wasn't going to be a "great" game as such. Testimonials should be at the end of the season where players can have a bit of fun and you can bring in former players and whomever. Pre season is all about fitness and gelling in new players, so the expectations should be different.

Yeah, being there it was not the best or most exciting game to watch.

I thought both halfs were poor, and the players of both sides just looked really uninterested in doing anything remotely exciting.

Shaw had one good run, which showed something to the crowd, hopefully it is just a sign of things to come.

So much for Jose saying that Rooney was to go back to being a striker, as he was playing just off of Ibra, which wasn't really too far off of where he was playing in recent times.

There were fleeting signs of good link up play, but if we are going to crack solid defences down, then they will both have to play far better than they did last night.

A bit of an advice for the MU fans. Be patient; change is not going to happen overnight; It took close to 3 years for this team to sink to this level and it is not going to be okay suddenly even with a Ibra, Mou or Pogba signing.

Thoughts on the first game : the team shows promise but I was not that impressed; there also seems to be a disconnect between the players imo. I just dont get the feeling that they are on the same wavelength on that pitcch; this is why I am glad that they are pre-season games because hopefully this will be sorted out before the season starts
.
I think that with this Pogba signing, things might change for the better. You guys still dont have a top striker though...I mean Ibra is good but eh.... Mou looked bored the whole game as well

Oh well, I am interested to see how the game on Sunday goes.
