Always good to win the first game!

On to Southampton!

Decent performance especially in the second half after a scrappy first half performance, Bailly looks like he could be a good signing and pleased Zlatan scored on his Premier League debut and it was a good 3 points. Pleased we won after losing at Bournemouth last season, hopefully a sign of things to come. There is still work to do but it is a promising start.

Satisfactory, most satisfactory!

A good result. I wonder if Smalling can get his place back considering Bailly and Blind are doing a decent enough job at the moment?

Satisfactory first game of the season. Bailly impressed, Zlatan got his league debut goal, played some decent football and looked comfortable and Pogba still to come in. Still plenty of room for improvement but as a start that'll do nicely.

Good question, I would have thought that he might, but those two sure looked like a good partnership in the making.

Presumably Pogba comes in for Fellaini?

Now that's the way to start the prem. Efficient job done, just the way we used to and Pogba still to slot in. Martial already down for assist of the season for Rooney's goal

I know he's not the most popular red on here, but I was glad to see Memphis get a run out - squad options are going to be so important this season if the prem ends up being as tight as the pundits predict.

I wondered who 'Bayee' was. Of course they're talking about Bailly.
A good start but let's not get carried away yet. Moyes won the opening game 4-1 in his first game in charge.

But Moyes and Jose are poles apart tbf last season's nightmare apart.

Unlike Liverpool and Arsenal, we actually have a fairly good looking defensive set-up, so that may well work out on our favour in the long run.

It's the stubborn git of a manager who seems reluctant to address Arsenal's weaknesses.

I'd be tearing my hair out if I was an Arsenal fan.

They have had him for so long, I wouldn't be surprised if they were all like Barthez on top!

He really is not at all bothered by defence, and improving it, or rather spending the right amount of money required to do so.

poor performance overall, luckily we were gifted two goals thanks to some shambolic defending from a relegation fodder side that i expect to go down this season. rooney was garbage as always but he was lucky to be in the right place at the right time for an easy finish that any premier league striker would put away, he certainly doesn't deserve any credit whatsoever for that goal if you ask me, unfortunately that goal will distract people from how poor he was again which is disappointing.

well done to zlatan, magnificent goal that was, he could be really effective with the right players around him but he'll always be held back by having rooney getting in his way so i don't think he''ll ever really perform to his true potential while rooney is in the side, he'll score a few worldies like he did today tho. only thing i can really give us credit for today in terms of the team performance was the defensive organisation, we looked very solid at the back so hopefully that continues.

i think we'll struggle against any half decent side based on today's performance, the scoreline is certainly very flattering to us, we were good defensively but poor in every other aspect of the game. it is the first game of the season tho so there is room for improvement, hopefully mourinho will give them a good rollocking and explain to them that the performance was unacceptable.

Speaking of Rooney, that goal today takes him one step closer to being our all time top scorer, odds on him breaking that in the Manchester derby I wonder??

If he manages to get 3 in the two matches beforehand then there is a good chance as I don't see him getting more than 1 in the City game. It would definitely be great if it happened against them though.

Has there been any posts deleted in here??

If not what's going on with you lot?? A game day thread where no one moans or complains about anything Fellaini did on the pitch?? It almost suggests he had a decent game.

As for Smalling coming back in? I think he has to wait till he gets his chance, why tinker with something that's working right now, and when we aren't playing that many games close together. I think Blind may be playing his way into Jose's plans right now, he's not a world beater, but he's the type of player every team needs some where in the squad.

Rooney could score a hat trick in the next 10 games and people will still be saying he isn't good enough.

I was thinking about this, could Blind be simular to Carvelho, in terms of being a player that José likes the style of?

I think that there are more than a few similarities between them (peak v peak).

The press don't seem to think so. Blind's being linked with a move to Inter.

Mind you, they don't seem to have noticed that De Boer admitted that Blind is 'very happy' at United.

I can't see Blind leaving, it is them putting a Dutch head coach together with a Dutch player, and thinking, yup that transfer will happen.

Not really. De Boer effectively said that he'd like to sign him, but also admitted that it was unlikely to happen.

“I like him as a player for sure, he’s fantastic. He is very happy at Manchester United, though, and played in the Community Shield. I know his situation and I think he’s very happy and playing with confidence, but we’ll see in the future.”

Carvalho was top class centre back throughout his career. No similarity to Blind who has just been converted to one recently

He was probably just asked a quick question about him in a press conference, and from there, it must mean that they are suddenly interested in him.

I don't believe either that (a) we are interested in selling Blind, or (b) that Inter are interested in him.
