As for the game tonight, damn that thing called hope, it always appears right before match day, only to be cruelly smashed once the match is over!

I want to believe that we can do it, and qualify, but in my heart of hearts, I just cannot see us doing so.
The team are just not creating enough chances to be hopeful. Was it one shot on goal vs west ham last Sunday. Still at least you took it. Arsenal squandered 8 chances vs Barcelona last night.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why he keeps picking the slowest midfield in the world. Nor the selection of the majority of the team that cannot create one chance, let alone the 3 goals we need.

If we lose on the night I can see the fans chanting for Van Gaal's head.

Bit slow today, but, why are BTS showing the yellow cards from the first game, in the team lineups?

To indicate which players are on a yellow card in the competition?

We look better so far.

Henderson is a hot head. I'd get our players to wind him up, I think he could flip out and get sent off.

OK, so no relevance to this match then.

I always find it make a difference to some players' "intensity".

Every relevance. If they get booked again in this match they miss the next game.

Every time we see Van Gaal he's writing something else down. Does he take note of EVERYTHING that happens in the game so that at half time his team talk is just reading the list?

"At 37 seconds Mata passed the ball incorrectly - this is not to happen again"

"At 1:21 Lingard did not pass the ball to a player from this team - this is not to happen again"

"2:33 there was a correct pass from Smalling - do that again."

Not really something I'm too bothered about, well in Fellaini's case!

Carrick's idea of a clearance is absurd. He did it last week too, gets the ball on the edge of the area and just casually floats it to the side.

Owen was astonished to see that wasn't a corner.

Christ he drives me insane.

De Gea had his angles wrong completely. His near post too exposed

Absolutely shocking goal to concede.

Might as well just go all out attack now.

I suppose what we now have is the neutralisation of their away goal; we just have to score 3 more than them in the 2nd 45 minutes.

Mission *almost* (but not quite) impossible. Anyone for a 5-2?

Game over.

Oh well, was fun while it lasted.

Might as well try to win it on the night and save face, but I suspect LVG's idea of saving face is to shut up shop and try to keep it at 1-1.

As much as he's saved us this season, what a time to make his first big mistake.. Had we held on the half time, we'd have been in such a good position.

Varela has had a bit of a nightmare this half, he's been all over the shop and in the build up to the goal was no different.

Lingard and Mata both should have scored with the chances they had. I'm not sure who's was the greater miss. Apart from that they've actually been OK, even if some think they are in the wrong positions.
