I have to ask the question, what has he done recently to justify such a thing? I like him as a player, he's got lots of potential, but so far this season he's done little to justify his position in the team, and it could even be suggested in the squad.

The only thing in his favour is that with Rooney potentially a doubt having pulled out of the England team, we may well be down on numbers up front and he may be our only option. Memphis scored a couple over the weekend, but I doubt that's enough to give him the chance.
So who would you play instead?

I can't see them going for Rooney. Depay looks the most likely.

Not convinced by Barkley, but I'd take Lukaku, for sure. He'd be massively expensive, mind.
U think Rooney may be off to LA, as they have gotten Keane and Gerrard off of their pay role, and more importantly off of the DP slots, it does seem like a good fit there, especially if Ashley Cole sticks around to help him settle in.
That doesn't man however that Everton will not be interested in bringing hm back, and the lure and f perhaps unfinished business could be quite big, especially with his idol "Big Dunc" on the coaching staff there.

I doubt very much if they would be interested, but if we were to let Memphis go, I would far rather it were just a loan to get his confidence back, as there is I believe still a very talented player within him, and he is still youngish enough for us to benefit from that.

However I don't think time is on Schneiderlin's side, (well not as much when compared above to Memphis) so if he is interested in moving there, then sadly I could see that one perhaps happening (if so, then we really need to look at either promoting and playing F-M in what is really his best sort of role, or a proven DM).

It remains to be seen, but most reports seem to indicate that it would be a loan.

Not sure why Fosu-Mensah would need 'promoting'. He's already in the first-team squad, and I don't see how he could replace Schneiderlin in the first eleven, seeing as he's not in it.

If Mourinho's going to play 3 in the middle, I'd expect Carrick or Fellaini to join Herrera and Pogba.

I hope if it is a loan for Memphis, then it is not one of those with a view to signing a player after the loan type deals, I would much rather it was just purely a loan to get his confidence back, and for him to get some much needed match sharpness (plus the old not being able to play against a parent club type deal wouldn't be so bad either).

If that were to be the deal, and he then comes back, and is ready to push on for a more firm place in the starting eleven, then I would be quite happy to see him loaned out.
I just would be a tad hesitatent or warey about just letting him go either on a permanent basis, or a loan with a view to a permanent deal come the end of the season.

As for F-M, my comments regarding being promoting, were in terms of playing more first team games, and his sort of squad role, (so from what it is currently of promising youngster, to perhaps a rotational player, in the vain of Fellaini or Lingard, so someone who gets to play a fair share of games, rather than not many as he is currently doing).

As for your three in the middle idea, that sounds good to me, sadly though I don't think Carrick can play week in week out anymore, so we do need options to cover for that, hence why F-M could be an option if Schneiderlin were to be sold or loaned out.

Depends doesn't it. Rashford through the middle with Mata behind. Out wide, Lingard and then we may be able to fit in Martial or Memphis on the other side. That depends on how we approach the game of course.

Some might say that Martial and Memphis it isn't a contest as to who gets selected first, but going on this season's form and not last year it's a evens fight.

On another note, and I know he wasn't to popular in here, got to say feeling sorry for Will Keane, he lost nearly a year through injury with us, which possibly cost him his chance of ever making it with us, and now only 6 games in with Hull he's out for a whole 12 months. I hope he can make it back, if he does, he deserves everything he can get out of the game. I should point out this is the third time he's done his knee ligaments.

I don't think that Martial's been noticeably worse than Rashford, this season. Neither have been particularly effective.

That said, I'd play both of them with Mata and Mkhitaryan, but I'm sure that Mourinho will go with Lingard instead. Unless he goes for three in the middle, of course.

As someone around these parts that at times got a bit of stick for daring to mention Will Keane's name, I too hope that he can recover from this latest huge set back for him.
If anyone deserves a bit of luck it is him.

Apart from the either the Watford or City (league) game, I can't recall which one where I called Rashford out, I'm not that concerned about his form, he's still doing what he is being asked to do, and he causes panic in defences out wide or through the middle.

Marital apart from that from a couple of games towards the back end of last season has been woefully short of form since about March of this year. I'd trust Rashford on his own right now, though the times he's played that role for us this season we've been very poor and he's looked lost and isolated. As previously stated, Martial has huge potential, but he needs to get his game together and the sooner the better.

Then lets pick Memphis ahead of them all. He's hardly had a chance to rediscover his form that he showed for PSV and the first month he was with us.

Memphis over Martial against Arsenal?

Memphis has yet to show any kind of form for us, despite having a poor start to the season, at least Martial has.

Martial, Rashford, Depay, all much of a muchness at the moment. However, I can't see Depay starting against Arsenal. The other two should.

I wonder if Lingard playing for the full 90 tonight means that he won't be in the starting eleven, at the weekend?

Rashford is a different case to the others, as due to Ibra's untimely suspension, he is are only other option for such a role, whereas there are other options to look at in Martial and Memphis' role.

One person that I hope plays against Arsenal, if he is fit enough to do so, is Valencia, he has started off the season in fine form.

With this in mind, you were one of the more vocal supporters of dropping Rooney, yet now you want to play a player who is totally out of form till he comes back into form?

There will be a point where we have to play with what we've got, in terms of certain positions or we call up one of the youngsters, but right now we've not got many knocking on the door from the U23's or below, that are ready. So it's play those in form first, those out of form if we have to.

I was talking about their general form, rather than who should play where.

However, I'm sure that Martial could play up top, if required. Didn't you spend much of last season claiming that centre-forward was his 'natural position'?

They're all out of form, to some degree. I'd argue that Depay is 'the most' out of form, of the three.

I don't think that the Rooney comparison is particularly fair, either. He was given aeons to regain his form, and the suspicion is that he'll struggle to, at this stage of his career. Martial is still very young, so you'd expect him to come into form at some point.

Belive me, I would love to see Martial play up front as a striker, however it doesn't appear that will happen any time soon, so we have to deal with the reality, rather than what each of us would like to see happen, and Martial is seemingly only getting into the side as a wide player, so we should think of his competition for places as being other wide players, rather than Rashford and Ibra.

Martial is a kid. Rooney has been on the decline for some time and looking at recent press releases getting shitfaced during the season might explain why. Not exactly doing himself any favours keeping his critics at bay is he?

Rooney has had plenty of opportunities to play despite being generally awful for some time. Doesn't Martial deserves his chance? He's the reason we won the FA cup semi final against Everton not so long ago.

Let me ask a question, do you think Rooney is deserving of a starting place against Arsenal this weekend?

I think the fact England looked more fluid and dynamic going forward last night backs the argument United are a more potent side without him right now. Changes a little if Zlatan's not available as that does take another slower forward player out of the equation - when they play together United are relatively easy to defend against.

I'd play Martial, Mata and Lingard (or Mkhitaryan) behind Rashford (assuming they're all available) and see how that goes but not sure Mourinho would want to do that.

Yeah I'd go with that. Zlatan and Rooney doesn't work imo. Too slow, despite Zlatan not firing in as many goals as I'd like his contribution generally is good. Rooney doesn't score enough goals and his all round game doesn't make up for it either despite the odd decent game here and there.

The problem is Jose doesn't seem to play his best eleven imo.

Looking at today's papers I would be surprised if he even makes the bench under his own steam. .

I am begin to feel like some sort of nature person, on the look out for a rare bird, in this case though, I am on the lookout for a rare sighting of Miki in our starting eleven.

I hope that I get to see my wish and ambitious ambition achieved sooner rather than later.

I hope that he starts games soon, so not just one, but more than that, he is such a talented player, that it seems a waste in a way to not be using him.
