Carrick is most certainly finished but I really do think Schweinsteiger has something to offer. He is short on pace but is a quick thinker and quick mover of the ball.

Yes he is getting older of course, but as long as his injuries dont pile up he is worth keeping for me.

Carrick's biggest problem is that he dithers too much and needs too much space to do his "thing". Age has caught up with him.

Not the end of the world if we can pinch someone like Lloris.

I'm still not getting the criticism of Schweinsteiger this season. Sure, he hasn't been outstanding but in all honesty I think that's down to a number of things. Too much rotation and not stamping down a proper regular midfield partnership. First season in England. The tactics and system could and is being questioned. And he's had an injury or two thrown in as well which has halted things.

Seeing quite a few United fans on his back (as well as the media), I think despite all of the above he's actually been decent enough bar the odd game or two. Should have been a better season but I think we can say that for almost any of our players bar the keeper and maybe Martial. Just think it's too soon the be writing him off as done at the top level. Hopefully we'll get a better indication under a new manager.

It would be a bit of a step down though whomever we were to get to replace De Gea sadly.

I disagree. While DDG is admittedly an outstanding shot stopper, us Utd fans do tend to overhype him...natural though because he is ours.

Imo....

I thought De Gea definitely wasn't leaving, no matter what?

Completely agree and I think that, if Mourinho is the one to come in, that he could cement a regular place in the side (barring injuries of course).

Jose likes industrial workhorses who can use their brains, and he fits into that category.

He will go to Madrid eventually and i think it will be this summer to be honest and who can blame him, he has been over here in England for 5 years now a fair length of time, United are a shadow of the team we once were, He has the chance to move back to his home country, he will get a massive pay rise, he will please his girlfriend who wants him to move back home and he will have a great chance of winning leagues and Champions Leagues. I would personally love De Gea to stay as i'm sure all United fans would but i can't see it sadly.

If he does go anyone think Schmeichel JNR might be worth a punt?

As great as it would be to see Schmeichel back as a goalkeeper for us, I would prefer Sleeper's option if that were possible.

I've said for a while that we should be looking at Jack Butland. Schmeichel is worth a shout though, definitely.

All this is moot anyway, because some people were insistent that De Gea signing that new deal meant he definitely would not be leaving anytime soon, under any circumstances.

Could be, he was a United fan as a kid so might want to come but would he want to leave Leicester especially if they end up winning the league which is looking likely now. All though on other hand how many chances would he get to play for a club of United's stature and for all the great work Leicester have done this season i think Leicester winning the league will be a one hit wonder as surely Chelsea, United, City etc will improve next season and Leicester will have to contend with the Champions League and will they have the squad. Also a worry would be could Kasper live with the constant scrutiny of being compared to his Dad as whatever he would achieve with us it would be almost impossible for him to achieve what Peter did with us. I would say though if Kasper wasn't worried about that prospect then we shouldn't rule out signing him on that basis, i doubt we would go for Schmeichel but he is certainly a good goalie.

Haha, they must be off their rocker. It was simply done to enable us not to get screwed over this Summer imo.

Either of the two other English goalie's would be good options, hopefully their values are not enhanced by too much this summer.l (although that is a double edged sword, a I would like England to go as far as possible).

With the new TV deal wouldn't the likes of Forster be unobtainable?

Mourinho has signed a pre contract agreement!

You have spent the whole of the last year utterly bemused at anyone else's suggestion that he could possibly be sold, why is it suddenly a possibility, and what do you mean "who could blame him?" when again you have insisted that as he has signed a contract he is staying for years to come?

Of course after 48 hours of you suddenly deciding we shouldn't keep any unhappy players, "who could blame him?" is probably suddenly fair enough.

Source? Don't mean to be too sceptical but I've read so many different versions of whether or not we want Mourihno that I need to see him I'm the dugout before I believe this.

Where is this piece Eddie? Kinda knew it was too good to be true. United seemed to be completely disinterested on Mourinho.

It's in the guardian and it's bloody stupid. Why do we need a pre contract with an unemployed guy? Apparently we have signed him up but if we "change our mind" because Sir Bobby bloody Charlton isn't sold on the idea we pay Mourinho £15m and he goes away.

I don't even know where to start....

I think the BBC and the Guardian are reporting it but I heard rumours about it a few weeks back.
