The fact that we are closer to Sunderland pointwise, then to City in third is a bit galling, even at this stage of the season, it just makes every game a must win for a good while to come.

Lingard has been very effective for us, and apart from the odd game done the job asked of him way better than others have done. If he does nothing in a game every game as suggested then how has he earned a call up to his national side??”

No as a home grown player he gets far more leeway than his performances entitle him to. He has scored the very occasional good goal but, just as with Nani, his performances are dire most of the time. Quite often you dont even realise he is playing he is so absent.

And why has he gained an England cap? Because England are woefully short of English players to pick from in the premier league and he plays for Man United. The chances are if you play for one of the bog clubs and are English you will be called up at some point. Exactly the same as Cleverly did and he hasnt had a sniff of an England cap since he left.

Right OK, hmmm all I'll say is that Mata has been exactly like this since he came. The recent run of games has possibly been the most consistent he's been, I've openly called him out and one or two others have also seen it, but has he had the flak that Lingard gets? No!! In fact all we ever hear when Mata resorts to his invisible type performances, he should be playing in the middle instead of Rooney or who ever, he's not a wide player. Well if you can't play out wide and be effective sorry but that isn't job done.

Youre clearly watching different games to me and id wager, 90% of everyone with eyes, if you are seriously comparing Mata to Lingard.

Not ability wise I'd imagine, but yes I'd agree like Lingard and as good as Mata is he does tend to drift out of games and go missing. At first I thought it was because of our style of play which it may still relate to at times, however, even when he is played in his favoured role it still happens often enough. That's why Mourinho substitutes him often late on during games

Comparing Mata to Lingard is like comparing a greasy burger to a rump steak.

Look I know you like defending our home grown players but your blind spot when it comes to their weaknesses is bordering on Codeblue territory.

we would all like a team of 11 homegrown players playing good football and winning the league but if they are shit they are shit no matter what their passport has as country of birth.

Lingard should be nowhere near a man united jersey.

That Arsenal scoreline is what we really should have done in the league match, so annoying still!

Yes you don't seem to kill teams off the way the current top 5 do.

It looks a huge ask for you to get anywhere above 6th failure to win tomorrow as it's looks a forlorn hope.

If you finish sixth I assume mouriniho would be under huge pressure if he is there next season

Who do we replace him with?

If we go down the route of sacking a manager for failing to get top 4 then we are no better than the oil clubs.

Hopefully our league form is just an anomaly in our season, so many dropped points in games where we were the superior team.

Don't forget we still have another path to reaching the Champions League, by winning the Europa League, so all is not lost if we don't quite make the top four

Agreed. Too much panic too soon from too many people. We are playing well.

Having said that, it's a sad state of affairs when a defeat tomorrow after 14 games would see us in 8th. place, 10 points off the top 4 and below West Brom and Everton. No single match is a must win but we are pretty darned close to that point right now.

There's nowt to stop us buying a new middie in Jan. Mid you, I would like to see more of Shaw getting a full run at LB and Blind or even Fosu-Mensah playing CM. Blind is the real long-term replacement for Carrick IMO

I'm guessing you meant a different Cole...”

Half-right. I meant a different Ashley As in Young.

Ashley Cole was a superb player, definitely world class IMO and dear old Andy was definitely England quality but he was never going to displace those ahead of him while he was in his prime.

Strange but isn't that why your last two managers were sacked Ninn ?

I would happily write off the season right now to give Jose another year. Well, not happily but we are clearly moving in the right direction for the first time since SAF retired.

They probably were but the first one was a complete joke of an appointment and all the time in the world wouldn't have polished that particular turd.

LVG's football made you want to pull out your own eyeballs. He had one year left on his contract and Jose was available .

If we had let him see out the remaining year and the options for decent managers were limited what then? Depending on which argument you listen to, Moyes was way down the list when Fergie left so we missed out . Can United afford to risk something like that happening again?

They obviously swerved on Giggs.

The problem is it sets a bit of a precedent but each manager should be judged on their season . After the last 3 years, we are generally good to watch , we've dominated teams and not been clinical enough otherwise we'd be in a more healthy position in the table.

I'm also in the keep Jose camp. I'm enjoying watching our team and style of play recently, once those goals hit home there'll be no stopping us.

Talking of which, it would be nice if Rooney could break this club goal record against his former club. Might do him and Utd the world of good

Slight problem there, unless we are waiting for him to break it in the return game, then he won't break it today, as he is suspended.

Yeah it really rubs salt in the wound when the team you couldn't beat one week gets absolutely hammered, no pun intended, the next week!

I was thinking about this a bit earlier on, I know that there is still a very long way to go in this season, but what would be people's feelings if come the end of the season, we were to finish sixth, having won both the League Cup, and the Europa League, would that be a successful season or not? (especially as if winning the Europa League meant the team in fourth place were not to qualify for the Champions League.)

It would of course be disappointing not finish in the top four places, but at least we would have Champions League football to look forward to next season.

I would say a good success (by outsiders anyway). And from Mourinho's as well.

I'd take that, but still holding out for at least top 4 place.
