I don't like this one at all, not one little bit, and the risk of zero points and injuries is plain to see. Spurs who played last night in balmy London must be dancing with glee. UEFA idiots.”

The trouble is, don't all last round of matches, have to kick of at the same time, so if our match is called off, don't you then have to call the other match off, and then you have to find a way of playing them, and the four leagues involved would have to push back matches.
It would be a bit chaotic to say the least.

Also, it would mean pushing back the draw for the next round, which is on Monday, so this match can only really be played today.

In an ideal world, of course this match would be postponed due to safety concerns, but there is too much to figure out, for UEFA to allow that to happen.

The point is that the match should not have been scheduled in eastern Ukraine in December, not that it should be postponed. Expected weather conditions there at this time of year are well known, but we are stuck with it.

The last round of Premier League matches have to kick off at the same time too and yet, amazingly, when United's game needed to be postponed for safety reasons, they postponed it without having to postpone the other matches. If the United game needs to be postponed then it will be. However, chances are they will decide not to postpone but it won't be for any of the reasons you've mentioned.

Agreed.

The team for tonight apparently is:-

Romero, Young, Bailly, Rojo, Blind, Pogba, Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Rooney, Mata, Ibrahimović

subs: De Gea, Fosu-Mensah, Jones, Fellaini, Lingard, Martial, Rashford

A bit of a mixed bag, but hopefully it should be good enough you get a draw at least, but the main thing is to not pick up any injuries.

Our Cup match with Jip Jaap is on BT on the 7th of January.

No, the main thing is to get a result. If we get injuries, so be it.

If not getting any injuries was 'the main thing', then we might as well have just forfeited the match.

Sadly forfeiting the match might have I think resulted in a 3-0 defeat, and an end to our participation in the competition, and our best chance of Champions League qualification next season.

If a defeat might not have mattered so much, then perhaps a forfeit might not have been such a bad idea.

I was mistaken about where the match is being played, it's in Odessa, a long way from Zorya Luhansk's home town. It's also slightly less cold, +3 degrees C but still with a stiff wind.

A fairly dominant 0-0 (if there is such a thing) at half time.

If you have any chance of making an impression at the business end of this tournament you need to be putting these games to bed.

Owen Hargreaves was talking about trying things for the weekend but you need to get the game won first

Now THAT is why we bought him!
Brilliant goal!

Well hopefully we have started to do just that now.

Good to get through to the next round, shame that we are unseeded, new interesting to see who we get.

Inser generic post about it being harder to win the tournament with not winning the group, and the Europa League being our best route to the Champions League next season.

No Spurs at this stage, which is a good thing, just as long as it is not a long trip, then I think I will be okay with things.

Copenhagen and Appoel limassol would be the draws of choice

Can't meeet spurs or Southampton if they qualify till last 16

If we want to win the competition then we'll have to face - and beat - tougher teams at some point any way. While it would be nice to hit the likes of Roma in a quarter or semi-final (hopefully when we had hit some form), it ultimately makes no difference.

That's a good point as you will have the second leg away possibly three days before a league cup final

Did enough tonight, without producing anything like our best.

Two quality moments enough to see off incredibly poor opposition.

Couldn't give a toss who we get in the next round.

Since this very well could be our best route to playing in the Champions League next season, then surely you should be caring about who we get in the next round, or are you someone who thinks that we can beat anyone who is left in the competition?

Well not Southampton now, just Spurs from an English perspective that we cannot face on Monday.

If we deserve to win it, then we should be able to beat anyone left in the competition.

Whether we can or not is a different matter.

Fair enough, I guess the "different matter" should be at least asked, can we win it in your opinion? And will we do so in your opinion?

As currently as things stand, this is or should be a competition that we should take very seriously indeed.
