That is the point im making
Youre saying the club shouldnt have hired him if they wanted someone else. Are the club meant to go along with no manager instead then? Youre saying the club never backed him when they gave him money to spend on who HE wanted to buy. Youre saying the club should have said no to signing Fellaini when told he wanted him in the same sentences as saying the club never backed him. Buying players he wanted is the very definition of backing the manager. This crap about Moyes not being supported is one of the most stupid myths in football, perpetuated by people who believe evey single thing they read in the gossip columns. The fact is Moyes was totally out of his depth, had no idea how to run a title winning team, no idea how to run a club the size of United, no idea how to handle big personalities both on the pitch and off it, no idea how to play creatively as well as tactically and was just useless all round. Stop embarrassing yourself for gods sake. |

Maybe he should have spent more time trying to instil a winning mentality into the players he already had? You know the ones who had more trophies than he could shake a stick at.
Of course the squad did need some reinforcements but he appeared to sit on his hands during the summer. Did any United fans realistically think Fabregas was going to come to us? That summer transfer shambles started his whole sorry time at United. That the squad that had more trophies than he could shake a stick at, that had just won the league needed reinforcing, note won the league by 11 points... United having a shambolic summer transfer window was something new??? I'm using arguments made against myself here from the time Moyes was in charge about the state of the team he inherited, and was called out. For many of those in that team Fergie left, we've heard on the departure they weren't good enough for United, even though they were part of teams that won multiple titles. Had Moyes gone about the whole sale changes in the way that LVG and Jose will undertake, he'd have been called out for sure, before a ball was kicked in anger. Then when the players performed at the levels they did it wasn't there fault but the manager, then when they were got rid of we were told they were not good enough. Moyes took on a poisoned chalice of a role by coming to us, had he succeeded in that first year and won us the league, it would have been a huge miracle. In terms of backing by the board, all we know is that the manager gives the board the list of players he wants, be it 4 or 5 players in varying positions or even more names with second and third choice if they can't get the top pick for the position, it's then up to the board to go to the clubs in question and do the negotiations. If the club delayed contacts with people it is the board's fault and not Moyes, the whole situation with Herrera that summer was Woodwards fault not Moyes. Don't try and whitewash that summer, Ed's performance was as akin to a Ralph Milne performance on the pitch. We are on our second manager since Moyes departed and they both have had more success than he could shake a stick at and we are still no nearer winning the league, and that's with near enough completely revamping the whole squad. That sort of says something about what Moyes had to work with. The genius that was Fergie, had a squad of not good enough's or those near the end of the career winning a league by 11 points, all be it one of poor quality when looking at the seasons before and since. Note that shouldn't detract from the fact we won it, but it wasn't the strongest season we've seen. Moyes will go down in history as "one of the worse", but it was a thankless task he accepted, either way he couldn't win he'd have had to win the league with the players he had (even this would have been down to Fergie's players rather than him), then revamp the entire squad in 3 or 4 windows and keep winning to be considered anything else. |

It was always going to be an impossible, and thankless task following Sir Alex, and so it proved.
You wanted to be the person following on from the person after the new manager, rather than directly following him, that is for sure. |

According to SSN, West Brom are willing to pay £18m for Schneiderlin. I hope they have invested in the patented Acme World Famous Invisibility Decoder Ray, otherwise they won't see anymore from him than United ever has.
I'd keep them locked in the basement until the cheque clears... |

Schneiderlin is a good player, not sure why he hasnt been given much of a chance to play. Sippose its difficult to get in ahead of carrick, herrera, pogba etc... but he would be a good signing for someone.

Having read the last page or two of your thread I think Owen has been a little foolish wading in with his opinions about Moyes and the way your club has gone since Fergie. I won't apologise for him as I do not think that would be appropriate as he is only saying what he thinks and I am a believer in free speech, but sometimes it is best to keep your opinions to yourself and i think this is one such. You see as LFC fans we do not know the ins and outs of what is happening at MUFC and so bearing that in mind it is maybe best not to comment.
I think it is good to welcome fans of other teams on specific threads to do with your team but when you do so there are probably areas you should not get involved with. In the past when fans of other teams for instance have come on the LFC thread and told us how we treated Hodgson badly or Torres was right to go in the way he did or Brendan was badly treated ...etc it has not ended well and has made some posters a bit angry. Hopefully in this season of good will there are no really angry MUFC fans around cos of this!! |

You wanted to be the person following on from the person after the new manager, rather than directly following him, that is for sure. That was my biggest gripe with his appointment. Won nothing but he somehow capable of stepping up to the role of most important boss in football. It was an incredibly naive appointment but anyone using the argument that he was liable to fail anyway is excusing his incompetence. Look at his poor efforts since he left United, no doubt his failure at Sociedad was down to being lost in translation and with Sunderland possibly another poisoned chalice? However he's been preparing players and fans with a relegation scrap since he was hired. Maybe he should be more selective with the jobs he takes ? He did a decent job at Everton but he's been winging it and making excuses ever since imo. |

It was always a strange one, as jobs like the one on offer at the time, simply do not come up, the champions of the Premier League looking for a new manager is almost the perfect job, so you might have thought that we could basically take our pick of the best managers in the world at the time, but no, we went with someone that was friends with Sir Alex. A huge own goal, and a huge missed opportunity by everyone associated with the decision process. |

By that token you're ruling out a lot of managers (including Mourinho). Its a multi million pound role - the club wouldn't employ someone with that kind of money involved purely based on a Christmas card list.
It is just a shame that in the end, we wound up going for Moyes. |

But Mourinho is SAF's friend which by your logic rules him out.

The Daily Star claims that Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger are locked in a bitter war to bring Dmitri Payet to their clubs. Obviously it's just rumours but do you think Payet would make the starting XI at United?

Rashford or Martial on the left with Mata or Mkhitaryan on the right. Rooney on the left with Lingard on the right. Those have been typical combinations. Two of Rooney, Mata and Mkhitaryan haven't started wide very often in the same side and I'd say Payet is more like those than he is Rashford, Martial or Lingard. I think he might be in and out of the side a bit like all the others if he were to sign. |

Dunno, for a 29 yr old he only seems to have had one good season and is hardly tearing the league up this year. Think he probably had his peak already plus I don't see where he would fit in.

I'd take Payet all day long. Sensational last season, had a great international tournament and is having another very good season this year in what's been a terrible West Ham team for the most part. He's carried them plenty of times over the last year and a half and has been one of the best in the league since he came to England IMO.
Don't believe for one moment we'll sign him though. |

He would be a terrific option at free-kicks, as apart from maybe Pogba, we don't really posses anyone who is a danger from them.
Iike him, but I cannot see this one happening in January, maybe the summer, depending on how West Ham do this season. |

Isn't he 5 years younger than Ibra? |
