Jose is a done deal.

There are obviously potential negatives with any manager, perhaps the selection of Jose has more downsides than most. The fact is though, there has been no more successful big time manager in world football over the past decade than him. He's won major trophies with major clubs time and time again, he has never failed.

We need a post-Fergie trophy and if our manager pokes someone in the eye and then leaves ultimately storms out leaving a new man to clean up, that's no big deal if we win the trophy. There are no arguments that could convince me that he is not the best choice for our club.

And fergies private dispute with the owners over a horse, that was also damaging to the club.

Jose has a lot of baggage and courts controversy. Expect headlines every other day, good and bad. And for him to sell fantastic players he doesn't personally get on with.

Schurle, de Bruyne, mata, Lukaku et al

Thanks for the info. You may continue to ramp up your new found dislike for him as it looks more likely that he will be coming here.

The suggestion that the Glazer's bought United because some people they barely knew were having a tiff about a horse is laughable. The Glazer's had bought into and were steadily increasing their stake in the club before any dispute between Ferguson and Magnier existed.

I know it makes for a nice narrative but the idea that if it wasn't for the equestrian dispute we'd be sat here today with the Glazer's owning 70% and the brave horse owning guy bravely holding out with his 30% is unrealistic. How many takeovers follow that narrative? None of them.

The Glazer's bought Manchester United because their family trade is sports franchise ownership. Magnier sold his shares in Manchester United because he was an investor and he was made an offer for them the same way as all other shareholders at the time who weren't Magnier sold their shares because they were investors and they were made an offer.

The amount of people who believe the fanciful alternative: that an American family sat in Tampa Florida one day decide to invest millions into buying small shares in a football club in the hope that one day one of the investors would have a dispute with an employee of that football club over a horse or a faulty microwave or erroneous directions, so that they could pounce and buy an £800m football club, is really unbelievable.

It shows people will believe anything if they want it to be true.

Can't see them just chucking 15 million away. Hopefully that means it's as good as done.

And Hernandez wasn't sold because he was unhappy. He was sold because the manager told him he had no place in his plans. Bloody hell.
It was a grievous blunder.

It was nothing of the sort. He wasn't going to play so it was best for him to go. Had he stayed he would have struggled for any sort of game time.

I would have kept him had he been happy with that role but why should he be?

Everyone is a bloody Monday morning quarterback here all of a sudden.

There's pros and cons to bringing in Jose; on the plus side he has good reputation of being a success and winning titles. On the other side, Mourinho rarely fields young players nor invests much in the long term future of clubs/ plus he has the ability to upset dressing rooms. I'm not sure if he is the right man to take over overrall, however I do not want another year of Van Gaal. I think the club needs rebuilding top-down. At present we have big flashy names, not a good functioning team. Minus De Gea our defence is average at best, Midfield isn't up to much, Up top I see potential but without a decent baseline we won't be going very far.

This obsession with young players is getting out of hand. It's nice to do but the overwhelming priority is to be winning. I can't believe any United fan would turn down a a manager proven to win things for one that finishes top half but plays some kids.

People who want us to win lots of trophies, play lots of youngsters, and for the manager to stick around for a decade, are quite simply living in a dream world. We've won sweet FA for the past three seasons and our rivals all look healthier than us. This isn't the time for fairytales, we need to get real, man up and put the special one in the hotseat!

Think lvg wants the squad players at the games doesn't he? That's why we usually see them sitting in the stands.

Exactly, we need to get back to winning ways first and foremost. It would be nice to do so with a team all born in line of site of old Trafford but what's the point if we end up in 6th place every year doing so.

Just seen this.
10 of van Gaal's stupidest decisions whilst in charge of us.

http://m.independent.ie/sport/soccer...-34555089.html

When it's written down it makes for a damning read.

From James Wilson being loaned, his substitutions against liverpool and chicarito being sold he has made some absolute whoppers .

This list could have been doubled even quadrupled.
Can't really argue with any of those, except signing Falcao on loan.

Van Gaal wasn't to know that Falcao was a completely shot ghost of his former self.

I am not exactly looking forward to the match, De Gea will as usual have to be his usual superman style self if we are to get anything out of the match.

Shame that there had to be a winner in the Southampton match, as now that puts them on the same points as ourselves, all very tight indeed.
