The FIFA award you are thinking of, is the Puskas award, which allows goals from anyone to be included I believe, hence why both males and females were up for the award together, which makes a nice change I think, for them to be considered on a par with each other.
Anyway, the goals are not 'on a par with each other'. They're different games. |

If you knew the award that he was talking about, why did you ask him which award he was talking about? Especially as that poster has specifically stated that they have no desire to respond to you.
Anyway, the goals are not 'on a par with each other'. They're different games. As for your part about the question about the award, I was just checking for clarification purposes, that was all. |

Hopefully Lindelof signs in the summer. I can sorta understand Mourinho's thinkng here. He doesn't want to upset the form of Rojo and Jones at the moment and putting Lindelof straight in the team might upset the team defensively, so he's probably thought it's best to wait. And there would be no point signing him for a big fee and sticking him on the bench until Rojo or Jones have a bad game.
I wouldn't minding seeing a defensive midfielder like William Carvalho rock up in January, though, to replace Schneiderlin who looks like he's leaving. |

Dunno if we do. Sounds like Ibrahimovic will stay for the second year and we'll put off having to make a decision until 2018.

The goal was brilliant. It was offside but that doesnt take away the skill involved to even attempt it. Its one of them that could have ended up miles away as well but again, doesnt take away from the skill to try it. Its also one of them that if Messi had scored it no-one would have a bad word said about it.

Sorry but I cannot agree with this and some similar comments posted by a few others, nor about the error made by the linesman. Yes it was an error. Technically. But no official has the benefit of frame-by-frame replays of fast movements as in this case - and timing is the reason for his error. You can download the video of all 6 camera angles from the Man Utd website and play it back in single frames, so i did.
Two frames before the stop-frame shown by TV, Miki was level. Two frames is 0.08 seconds and given the wide angle between nearby Zlatan and the much more distant running Miki (at a key moment obscured from the official by another player) I defy anyone to consistently get this kind of decision right. It's not humanly possible. Yes sometimes they'll get the timing right and sometimes not but obviously mainly the wrong ones are highlighted. This is not about linesman error, it's about the limits of human perception and judgement in a fast moving football match. In the days before slomo replays, nobody would ever have known Miki was offside, least of all Miki himself. This was just a normal football official's decision and one that in the past would have been fully respected, and so it should be today. Unless and until refs or 4th. officials have the benefit of instant stop-frame video replays, officials should not be criticised for this kind of hairline timing decision, because no amount of training or professionalism will ever prevent it. 25 years ago we'd have had none of this carping about it being unfair on other contenders for goal of the season, because nobody would ever have known. Miki's goal has as much right to be goal of the season as any other, IMO. Quote:

This was the same sort of thing people talked about Smalling last season.
What I will say from what I've seen of Jones during this run of games, is that he hasn't thrown himself into stupid challenges and has rarely been caught out of position where he's had to put himself into danger. This partnership with Rojo is looking like it says on the tin a partnership, and both are showing us the quality they have. It may not have been the partnership we expected or wanted during the summer or before, but it's working. So much so, that if it carries on I think both of them may come off the journo's list of perennial leavers. ) didn't go unnoticed either. But we must not forget that the upswing in players performance has to be down to Jose. That's where most credit is due. Out of all those I would have been happy to see leave in the summer, only Rooney is still performing below standards. And to be fair, even he is trying, it's just that his fellow 30+ striker is completely showing him up

I still don't have a bad word to say about it, but I get your point. Hopefully after a few more wonders goals from Miki the debate over the intentions of this one will be put to rest.
.... Great post. ![]() I should have added that I think he meant it. There was no United player to pass to or who would benefit if he was just trying to stop the ball, only defenders. He was certainly not trying to clip the ball to the goallie, or high or wide to give them a goal kick. The only possible thing he was trying to do was score. I know it seems obvious to some but I've seen a couple of comments suggesting that he was trying to do something else. No way! To be fair, most outrageous efforts such as this do go high or wide but the same could be said of most wonder goals, well most goal attempts in general but that doesn't detract from them when occasionally, they come off. For me, it's one of them, a wonder goal! Goal of the season? I have no idea but it should definitely be on the MOTD short list for viewers to vote on. |

Just come back in, and seen the Spurs score, a but disheartening, as it would be nice if our good run of form could be rewarded with getting closer to the teams above us then we currently are, but hey ho, all we can do is keep on winning I suppose.

Can't be gaining ground every week I suppose and this round of fixtures was the first time we haven't just lately. Results like our win against Spurs, Arsenal losing 2 in a row prior to beating WBA, City getting beat by Leicester the other week and Liverpool's draw with West Ham were all very useful to our cause recently. |

Aye, was hoping we might've closed the gap too. When we were winning on Boxing Day I was aware that Chelsea were too (not like we're going to catch them anyway) and it was still 0-0 between Arsenal and West Brom. Giroud then scored near the end, City won in the late kick-off, Liverpool the day after and Spurs last night. Felt a bit frustrating.

If we can for example, move to within three points, one win, of City, that would put real pressure on them, and with their uncertainty of team selection at the moment, it could be a bit of a psychological blow for them to see us so close to them, ready to pounce on any more dropped points of theirs. |

Can't wait for the next game. Starting to enjoy watching this team under Mourinho. Hopefully Martial can get into a bit of form to help out Zlatan so we're not too reliant on him for goals, I miss the Martial from last year. Mkhitaryan looks like a natural goalscorer so hopefully he can chip in too.

Miki, Mata, and Pogba, all chipping in with goals as of late, is great to see. It really is a delight to watch us at the moment, playing some, if not the best football in the whole league, such a contrast to this time last year/season, when we were extremely lucky and fortunate to see the team have one shot in three or four games in total! Hopefully we can beat Middlesbrough, as it sure would put us in a good place going into a run of hard fixtures after that match. |

Martial has looked as potent as Rooney all year. As per Rooney (for most on here), Martial's form hasn't improved either, he's still a shadow of the player we had till February of this year. I'm not sure what some people saw in his cameo against Sunderland, as I saw nothing to suggest he was back on form. Jose gave Rashford a slew of subs appearances after trying Memphis, and now it's Martial's turn. If he doesn't get going then it's back to Rashford or someone else. In the mean time everyone's unfavourite player can continue to play for me, he's shown more form than any of the 3 above.
I would still pick Martial over Rooney purely because I feel like he's got more to offer as an attacking threat, he's got more weapons in his arsenal (e.g. pace, dribbling) to hurt a team IMO. And I think he's starting to show some improvement now IMO, but yes I agree he's still some way short of top form. That doesn't mean to say I've got anything against Rooney, and he's certainly not my most "unfavourite player". I still see Rooney as an important player who can have an impact, but not someone who is vital to the team's success at the moment. I respect your backing for Rooney, though. |

Thread butchered, yet again. And for the same reason as always.
Evra hasn't been linked to us at all, he's going to West Ham, if anywhere. |

Well, I agree Martial's form hasn't been all that better than Rooney's this season. But he was better than Rooney for most of the year IMO. We've seen flashes and sparks of the old Martial this season, but not anywhere close enough.

As for "unfavourite player" I wasn't referring to Rooney, that's a different discussion. If Martial is playing out wide and Memphis and Rashford have been asked to fill that slot at times as well the other one who plays that role and is the current incumbent is Lingard, who no one seems to like. He's shown more form than Rash, Memphis or Martial this season, and if he wasn't performing the manager wouldn't play him. |
