From around the 30th minute I could see them scoring on the break and defending deep to protect the lead. I actually don't want to call Smalling out, but he seemed rusty to say the least today. So whilst I bemoaned his positioning for the goal, I'll put it down to being a bit rusty.
I've called Martial out for some time, that was his best performance for some time, now the trick is to do it again on Monday, and after that. It was made easier by having to play against Chambers, but hopefully the goal and the performance will do him the world of good. I know it won't happen come May, but Valencia is being so consistent at full back that he'll have to be a contender for player of the season. For a player who was written off, he's come back excellently. I don't think I can add to the complaints that will come over Mason's performance today. I suppose the good news is we've got Mike Dean on Monday.. |

Justice grabbed from the cold, dead hands of another ridiculous referee. I begin to think there must be a memo doing the rounds.
Hererra's excellence continues, as does Smalling's headless chicken act. Glad to see Martial trying so hard, I hope Mourinho was the only one he was trying to impress. |

The only concern now is how much has the effort to pull this back taken out of those who are likely to start on Monday? We've plenty to come in, but some will have heavy legs on Monday and we had better make easier work out of the game or we may be in trouble.

The refereeing has been bad all season, we've mostly suffered and occasionally benefitted from a few shockers.
However that today took the piss. If Middlesbrough had hung on to win I think a genuine case could be made for giving Lee Mason the Man of the Match award. If I went back to work on Tuesday and did my job that badly I would be asked to clear my desk at the end of the day and to never come back. |

I honestly think your concerns are unfounded. A defeat will have drained the energy much more than this fantastic win will have done. And BIB of course

That would/should have been a routine win. Underwhelming, a bit forgettable. Par for the course beating Boro at home. But coming from behind in the 85th minute and win just feels absolutely ******* amazing. It feels like we just smashed City 5-0 at the Etihad.

In the first half apparently Herrera had a 97% pass completion.
You can't really ask for better. |

What a comeback and a vital win. I thought Boro's goal might deflate us, but we came back fighting. I know it's become somewhat of a cliche to say this now whenever we win in dramatic fashion - but that is the old never-say-die United that I know and love. Straight out of the Fergie playbook. But we have to carry on now and not let up. Consistency is key.
Good to see Martial and Pogba get on the scoresheet, will do a world of good for their confidence, especially the former. Gutted to see Zlatan's goal disallowed but that's the way it goes sometimes. I'm not gonna moan about it since I was one of those who was ecstatic at Miki's 'scorpion' goal not being ruled offside. |

You can't really ask for better. Great comeback today, i couldn't see us getting back into the game today i thought we were going to have another 'One of those days' especially as the Ref was so bad, i thought as soon as Zlatan had that 'goal' disallowed that we were in for it but fair play to the lads they showed there quality and it won't do there confidence any harm. West Ham away next a difficult game despite there iffy form as they will no doubt play out of there skin against us, i just hope we can pick up another 3 points. |

Just to add to the new year's eve happiness, Usain Bolt phoned into MUTV from Jamaica just after the match! Daft Mandy presenting didn't believe it was him and thought he said "no I'm not Usain Bolt" when she asked him - in fairness it was a dodgy line but hey, even I recognised his voice and Lou Macari certainly did, and said so. So they asked him to tweet if it was really him and he did! ![]() Quote:
They've posted the call now. Muppets!

Three points behind third place at the turn of the year, not a bad place to be in all told really.

Yet City are 8.5 decimal odds to win it, in the betting, and we are 23 but only 3 points behind with the same number of games. There's money to be made there, by laying City. I'd put them at 15 right now.

Is everyone feeling OK??? Apart from grumbles before the game, I can't see any complaints over Fellaini's performance??? Is this a turning point for the guy?

Watching MOTD and the disallowed Zlatan goal gets worse every time I see it. It'll be brushed over because we won but it's an embarrassing decision and the referee needs punishing for his display today.

Happy New Year or 365 days to everybody on this thread. I hope it is a successful one with lots of 3pts - for they are better than 0 points or 1 point indeed.
What do you think the team will be for your next game? |

Happy new year to my fellow United fans!
I hope that we all have a successful year both from a clubs perspective, and to everyone on a personal level. |

But that was last year, hopefully this year we will get some of these calls going our way. |

Good way to end the year, looking forward to seeing what 2017 has in store for United. Let's keep it up and try to be more ruthless in front of goal. We had something like 32 shots against Boro and 12 of them were on target, we need to start converting more of those shots and wrapping up games earlier. But it's always nice to win 2-1 in the last few minutes
