Big test for Mensah today, great to see him starting such a high profile match though.

Oh my God you still aren't listening.
You talk about developing young players as though its a requirement. It isn't. It isn't because young players with no results equals the sack. No young players with good results equals keeping job and doing great. A manager can't afford to focus on it right now at Man Utd, if it happens along the way then great but you would never set out to do it. Yes a young player saving us millions is good for the club when we look back, but we are looking forward right now and a new manager (or LVG if he stays) would be an idiot not to sign established players rather than rely on the youngsters given the dubious position we are in. I would be stunned if Rashford on Lingers positions aren't strengthened with more established players this transfer window and ergo their opportunities will be more limited next year. At our club, it is a requirement to develop young players, we have a very proud history of doing so, and throughout the history of the club, we have done very well in this area, so why try and stop that? From the Busby Babes, to Fergie's Fledglings, and up to the modern day with Rashford, Varela, and Mensah (Louis' Little un's???), we more than most clubs have shown the way forward on this area, and this is something that we should carry on doing, and not put to one side. |

But you can't set out to do that. If it happens - great but it can only happen if you have the players. If you have a bunch of also-rans not good enough to keep the club challenging for honours then it doesn't matter if you call them the Busby Babes, Fergie's Fledglings, Louis' Lads or Jose's Juniors - they're not getting in the side.

Kick off delayed by 15 mins due to us being stuck in London traffic, not heard that for a while!

You mention a few scenarios, and they could come true, but fail to mention one, how about, "young players with results", what does that equal? I agree with your other scenarios, I am interested in what this one would mean?

Sadly for them, players like Keane or Powell are not good enough for our first team, however it does seem that Rashford, Varela and Mensah are worth persevering with. |

You don't get it. There's no point in me continuing to explain the same thing over and over and you still not understand.
I understand perfectly what you are saying don't worry about that. |

Of course they have to be good enough, there would be no point playing anyone if they were not good enough, I have never said otherwise.

Glad to see another Leicester win, a points loss would have given Spurs a boost but not now. Let's hope we can take advantage!
Not helpful having the team coach still stuck in traffic and an already delayed KO (4:15 currently). FFS they should be out on the pitch warming up by now!!!!!!! GRRRR now 4:30 KO - still not there! |

I do get your point of view, hence me agreeing with the other points of view that you put forward, however you did forget about the option that I was simply asking you about.
I understand perfectly what you are saying don't worry about that. |

I hope the CB's are as successful against Kane today as they were against Lukaku.

I though he was stuck in 1995, but there you go... |

But then the objective becomes playing them if they're good enough, not playing them because of their age or development route.
If it was solely about the first team, we wouldn't need a youth team, we would just buy in all of the players from elsewhere. Yes of course, not all of the young players will make it with us, and the vast majority, will leave us, but that shouldn't mean we stop trying to aid the development of the ones that are perceived to be of a sufficient enough quality to warrant inclusion at a higher level. Quote:
I didn't forget, you are totally missing the point, that's what I'm trying to say. At the start of the season there are two options to weigh up - sign established players or play the youngsters. That's it.
Young players will be inconsistent as they get used to playing at a higher level. So you can sign players, but you should also have in mind what is best for the development of our more talented younger players. We wouldn't for example want a say Pogba to leave us, only for us to in the future wish to re-sign them, only to have to pay waaaayyyyy over the top in order to do so, when we could keep a player of a sufficient quality, if we just aided their development more. It is a very tough balance, and there is no short cut, or easy way to make this a success, however we should be looking at doing what is best for our more talented youngsters, if the management team feel that they are worthy of continuing to do so with. |

Batdude, must you persist with this silly point of yours? More or less everyone has disagreed with you and/or told you your completely missing the point. It's very obvious you're just trying to gain attention and argue for the sake of it.
There's an important game coming up shortly and it would be nice to see this thread full of discussion about it, rather than the thread being your own personal soapbox. |

Instead we have someone trying to steamroller through it shouting "I understand" when each and every post made on the subject clearly states they don't. |

this is far from ideal, off the coach and straight onto the pitch, not very good preparation for the match, you would think we would arrive at the stadium with plenty of time to spare, oh well...
