Van Gaal wasn't hired to build for the future first and foremost it was for silverware and CL qualification.
But didn't LvG say that he didn't expect to be competitive until year 3 of his contract? Didn't he say "he" bought Martial for the next manager? AFAIK the club have not contradicted these statements.

You have to wonder who he bought Falcao for? Mixed messages going from one to the other.

Could still win the FA Cup (that's the first trophy Man Utd won under Alex Ferguson too).
No team have a God-given right to success, especially when the previously successful team were past their best. See Germany in the mid noughties for a similar example).
I haven't seen a single regular on here demand success. That doesn't mean you lie back and blindly accept under achievement.

Or Schweinsteiger, who has proved just as useless.

Isn't the clamour for Mourinho an implicit demand for instant success? Especially knowing his apparent hit and run M.O. which has been frequently discussed on here.

Didn't Van Gaal when he got the job say he intended to challenge for the title next season (as in, this season) and challenge for the Ch League the season after that (next season)?

That's worked out well!

Not really.

A club with United's resources should be doing a whole lot better than they are. That's why people are calling for Mourinho.

That doesn't mean that the fans will start whining, if we're not winning the league in March.

Have you watched us this season? Have you not wondered why a club of United's size surprise people when they score two goals? Or why they're reduced to punting on youth players, as soon as a couple of injuries kick in?

Yeah can you imagine Munich fans thinking "It's alright lads, Pep's gone, we've won a load, let someone else have a go now, Carlo can do a bit of transitional shit now!"

I agree wholeheartedly that LvG should have done very much better, but that is a valid argument for appointing a competent manager, not necessarily, or particularly Mourinho.

I'll take that bet LOL

Indeed, they have been too often abysmal, under LvG. I don't think I will ever be able to forget (for instance) that atrocious performance against Norwich as long as I live. I assure you, I feel the pain. Very much so. I want United to be United again. Very much so. I'm not so sure as some that Mourinho would, or even wants to provide that, if given the chance.

If United want to remain a relevant force, then they need to win the league, or at least come close, very soon.

The Busby situation looms large.

Mourinho is the closest thing available to some sort of guarantee. He might be an utter disaster, he might not do any better than Van Gaal, but I'd take the chance. We absolutely need to get the Ferguson monkey off our backs.

If it doesn't happen, and we sink to a new reality with some sort of permanence, then so be it. It would show an almighty case of mis-management, mind.

I'd rather take a gamble with Jose. If it is a disaster then so be it. He'll have a point to prove though and we know he definitely has the swagger to not be phased by the job.

It pisses me off greatly that he was overlooked for friggin Moyes.

I want us to do the best we can. If we do that and fall short I can live with it.

I can't live with a shambles, with inept tactics, with excuses getting worse and with no learning from mistakes.

I think that's fair enough tbh.

I suspect your immediate worries will be somewhat eased, when Mourinho is appointed in the Summer. I'm perfectly well aware I'm probably whistling in the wind with my concerns. I would still argue that almost any competent manager could come in and get more from this squad as it stands, than LvG has so far achieved. Young at CF, with Martial on the pitch was just the latest incomprehensible stupidity. I would expect Mourinho to be at least somewhat more logical. So there's that....

But the people who complain about LvG setting up the team to win 1-0 (with 1 shot on target), better be ready to own it, because that is precisely what I think Mourinho will be doing with United next season.....

I want more than that.

To be honest, I can't believe that we've been reduced to these tentative posts praying for Mourinho because of the circumstances and yet really unsure what the thinking of TPTB is.

I still have nightmares that they will stick with LVG as a lead-in to Giggs. Heaven help us if that's the way they are leaning. After they appointed Moyes, I really have no faith that anyone in charge really knows what they are doing. Pride and sentiment have no place at this point.

I've never had a problem with Mourinho - he amuses me immensely and I think he is one of those people who, if he's against you - you hate him. If he's on your side, you sigh like an indulgent parent at his antics and defend him to the hilt if outsiders criticize him.

For me, at the moment it really is a no-brainer as they say. But United never fail to astonish me in a bad way , so I'm not holding my breath. Like many here, I think any other alternative currently available (especially keeping LVG for Giggs to take over) will condemn us to mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

José or the continuation with LvG then the passover to Giggs, unfortunately does seem to be the only options, I so wish that they was a third or fourth option, sadly that doesn't seem to be the case.

Against my better judgement, and for me both Giggs and José come with too many negatives, but I will go for José, a case of better the (red) devil you know, and at least José comes with a pedigree and a good managerial C.V.

I just want us to improve and be better than the shambles that we too often have been since Sir Alex moved upstairs, and away from the dugout.

Next season will be an almighty dog fight for the top four positions, nevermind the actual title, and we will need someone in charge who can match the incoming Conte at Chelsea, Guardiola at City, and the vastly improved no doubt Klopp at Liverpool, and Potch at Spurs.
Not forgetting Wenger doing his usual stay at the top, and who knows what the perhaps defending Champions Leicester will do or be like!

We cannot afford to be left behind and playing catch-up as we have been these past few seasons.

Out of two very underwhelming options, and through gritted teeth, then yes, I would still prefer someone else, but seemingly we only have two choices, and José comes out ahead of the LvG + Giggs pathway.

I just pray that José has learned from his sacking at Chelsea, and he improves on the negatives that he has if we do appoint him.

Getting back to on the pitch matters for a moment, surely we will beat Villa today, 0-0 at half-time followed by winning 1-0 anyone?

If they think GIggs is the way forward then they had better prepare themselves for the inevitable kick in the bollocks that will follow.

I hope that Moyes has taught them a lesson.

I've gone beyond predicting scores, shots on target is the way to go!

Huh, which is the "same thing", and what or whom is "relentless"??

Good idea, in which case 1-0 might be the same result!

Meh, Rooney already got involved with the League of Nations (well a now former member) in King Barrett, so this is nothing new!

It would be great to see more interaction between the faction and Rooney once again!

As a matter of interest, who would you want to have the job today and with things as they stand? I.e you can't say we should have got Pep or something impossible. Who would you choose to try to get us back on track?
