Indeed, they have been too often abysmal, under LvG. I don't think I will ever be able to forget (for instance) that atrocious performance against Norwich as long as I live. I assure you, I feel the pain. Very much so. I want United to be United again. Very much so. I'm not so sure as some that Mourinho would, or even wants to provide that, if given the chance.

If United want to remain a relevant force, then they need to win the league, or at least come close, very soon.

Mourinho is the closest thing available to some sort of guarantee. He might be an utter disaster, he might not do any better than Van Gaal, but I'd take the chance. We absolutely need to get the Ferguson monkey off our backs.

If it doesn't happen, and we sink to a new reality with some sort of permanence, then so be it. It would show an almighty case of mis-management, mind.

I'd rather take a gamble with Jose. If it is a disaster then so be it. He'll have a point to prove though and we know he definitely has the swagger to not be phased by the job.

I suspect your immediate worries will be somewhat eased, when Mourinho is appointed in the Summer. I'm perfectly well aware I'm probably whistling in the wind with my concerns. I would still argue that almost any competent manager could come in and get more from this squad as it stands, than LvG has so far achieved. Young at CF, with Martial on the pitch was just the latest incomprehensible stupidity. I would expect Mourinho to be at least somewhat more logical. So there's that....

But the people who complain about LvG setting up the team to win 1-0 (with 1 shot on target), better be ready to own it, because that is precisely what I think Mourinho will be doing with United next season.....

To be honest, I can't believe that we've been reduced to these tentative posts praying for Mourinho because of the circumstances and yet really unsure what the thinking of TPTB is.

I still have nightmares that they will stick with LVG as a lead-in to Giggs. Heaven help us if that's the way they are leaning. After they appointed Moyes, I really have no faith that anyone in charge really knows what they are doing. Pride and sentiment have no place at this point.

I've never had a problem with Mourinho - he amuses me immensely and I think he is one of those people who, if he's against you - you hate him. If he's on your side, you sigh like an indulgent parent at his antics and defend him to the hilt if outsiders criticize him.

For me, at the moment it really is a no-brainer as they say. But United never fail to astonish me in a bad way , so I'm not holding my breath. Like many here, I think any other alternative currently available (especially keeping LVG for Giggs to take over) will condemn us to mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

José or the continuation with LvG then the passover to Giggs, unfortunately does seem to be the only options, I so wish that they was a third or fourth option, sadly that doesn't seem to be the case.

Against my better judgement, and for me both Giggs and José come with too many negatives, but I will go for José, a case of better the (red) devil you know, and at least José comes with a pedigree and a good managerial C.V.

I just want us to improve and be better than the shambles that we too often have been since Sir Alex moved upstairs, and away from the dugout.

Next season will be an almighty dog fight for the top four positions, nevermind the actual title, and we will need someone in charge who can match the incoming Conte at Chelsea, Guardiola at City, and the vastly improved no doubt Klopp at Liverpool, and Potch at Spurs.
Not forgetting Wenger doing his usual stay at the top, and who knows what the perhaps defending Champions Leicester will do or be like!
