If I were the person in charge of making this decision, (oh no I hear you all cry!) then I would like to see either Frank De Boer, Diego Simeone, or Allegri in charge (I would have loved Conte, but Chelsea have nabbed him).

Those are three managers/head coaches that I think could get us back on track (and hopefully those options are not what you might deem impossible to get).

Would not be surprised if we only manage a draw against Villa. We should change the setup to attack and give them a hiding.....let's not shy away from them.

Against my better judgement, and for me both Giggs and José come with too many negatives, but I will go for José, a case of better the (red) devil you know, and at least José comes with a pedigree and a good managerial C.V.

I just want us to improve and be better than the shambles that we too often have been since Sir Alex moved upstairs, and away from the dugout.

Next season will be an almighty dog fight for the top four positions, nevermind the actual title, and we will need someone in charge who can match the incoming Conte at Chelsea, Guardiola at City, and the vastly improved no doubt Klopp at Liverpool, and Potch at Spurs.
Not forgetting Wenger doing his usual stay at the top, and who knows what the perhaps defending Champions Leicester will do or be like!

We cannot afford to be left behind and playing catch-up as we have been these past few seasons.”

That was a good post Bat. You set the scene very well for next season. I think Arsenal are in danger of being squeezed out next season unless Wenger makes significant investments. I am glad that youth has been given a chance at OT this season regardless of the reasons. I hope Rashford fulfils the expectations of supporters over time but he must be protected. It was a brilliant goal on Wednesday. I expect to see Mufc in the final on May 21 and win it.

I've got a bad feeling about today, we should win by at least a couple of goals but i'm not so sure.

Does anyone on here use talkmanutd.com? Only it seems to have disappeared and I wondered if it was just the reaction from my computer!

Mark Lawrenson, the deluded soul, actually had us winning and scoring 3 GOALS!!!!

My word! As Ray Wilkins used to say!

It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if it's one of those dire, turgid boring games, that we've had so many of this season, where we score the winner in the last 5 minutes with the first shot on goal.

This against a team who I think someone beat about 5-0 recently and who, really, have been relegated for the past month or more (just not officially)

You know, if we don't win at home to this Villa side who have amassed so far, a grand total of 3 wins this season...Well, I shall go and sit in a corner and weep. That would be beyond ridiculous. Although now you've said it, I can see it happening. Hell, this takes me back to dark United times.

Thanks, it is nice to get a bit of praise around here, so I appreciate your comment!

I am in full agreement with you over seeing the likes of Varela, Mensah, and Rashford getting their chance (and more importantly, them taking it), it has been great, and I am really enjoying seeing them out on the pitch for us, I sure hope that it continues, as there are some more names that could join them (Tuanzebe, Poole, Wier, and Love).

I am not getting too carried away in terms of the FA Cup, Everton will cause us trouble, no doubt about that, and I still have mental scares from the Rideout goal in that final!
I would love to see us win the trophy though, as it has been far too long since we did, and it would be nice to get our record back from Arsenal.

"Dark United times", those under Moyes you mean?

If we don't beat this Villa side, we should just post a congratulations message on the official website to City on gaining fourth place, as we would not deserve or warrant such a position, even if were stilll to be mathematically possible.

Sadly I just can't see this being an exciting game, another 0-0 at half-time wouldn't in the least bit surprise me.
It is like we see the first half as am annoyance, and we only get going in the second half (if we do at all).

Logging on now means wading through 5 pages of crap then finding 3 or 4 decent posts which then descend into the usual "Ya boo Utd are rubbish"

No not under Moyes, I'm older than you so I remember the dark days under Sexton and Big Ron. I remember waiting to hear the results on the video-printer on Grandstand and invariably being down because Liverpool had won and we hadn't.

I think that's part of the reason that I am so passionate about getting a manager who I feel can halt our decline. I've seen how Liverpool have fared and I really don't want to live through anything similar.

Anything other than a win today will sum up LVGs two years with us in 90 minutes.

Ahh yes, the nearest thing I have to that, is going round to my friends house, and watching and being amazed by this thing he had on his TV called Teletext, (we never had it on any of our tv's, and I was really jealous, and envious!) and just waiting for the scores to change!

This was in the early 90's, though so my worst season at that time was the Leeds title winning one, that really knocked the stuffing out of me, and I was miserable for ages after that (the next time that I would be as down would be the year Blackburn won the league, and Everton won the FA Cup).

I will bow down to you in terms of living through those really dark times, and can fully understand that you don't want us to emulate or go down the path that Liverpool have done, neither do I!

5 changes to the team that beat West Ham.

Standard Van Gaal.

What a surprise - not - that his favourite Rooney starts, after playing 2 minutes on Wednesday, and a few minutes in the reserves.

Anyone else out for as long as Rooney was would have to play a dozen games in the reserves, then spend a lot of time on the bench while he builds up the 'match rhythm' Van Gaal so insists on! Such rules don't appy to his favourite Rooney.

Presumably it's Operation Rooney to the Euros time, to give him every minute remaining that United will play so no one can say he goes to the Euros (which of course he would even if he never plays another game this season) without any game times under his belt!

Yes it should be 5 nil today. Even Arsenal managed that.

Who drops out, for Rooney?

Mata or Lingard, I'd hope.

No Martial from the start kind of buggers up my fantasy team, still hopefully we will have enough to beat this Villa side.

Sexton and Atkinson each had one season where they might have won the league and beaten Liverpool. I recall the early weeks of 78/79 season and mufc had so many draws and could barely score a goal.

To be fair, against a team that's as bad as Villa have been this season, even United - playing at home - should not only beat them but do it convincingly - with lots of shots on goal with a few going in!

Not to do so, as you say, would sum up life under Van Gaal.
