I suppose their reaction to this defeat could go either way, Everton have been pretty poor all season though. If they can't raise themselves for the Merseyside derby, can they for the semi final?
I just hate tempting fate, as it certainly hasn't been with us or on our side too often in recent seasons!

I can see them seeing this as their last chance saloon, and will be putting all of their efforts and energies into trying to get to the final, so that is what worries me, as we are unpredictable to say the least.
Just when you think we are back on track, we get beat in a stupid game, and I just hope that this is not the case at the weekend.

So we are back to playing catch-up with City again, two points, still possible, but I think it may still be beyond us.

The real tragedy will be if he gets to complete his three year plan.

We'll know soon enough whether we're run by a bunch of idiots or not.

City still to play Arsenal.

We would need a 100% finish and a hope for favours elsewhere.

But I can't see us taking 6 out of 6 against West Ham and Leicester.

Yeah, we won't catch Arsenal now, I'd expect them to win at least 3 of their last 4 matches - hopefully all 4 because our best chance now is to catch City who have 2 or 3 potential tripup matches, Saints and Swansea away and Arsenal at home.

If he gets another year when there is a better option available then it shows that the board is lacking ambition.

We basically become Arsenal but unlike them our football is dire!

As I've said before, when you rely on other people - regardless of what you yourself do - it doesn't normally work out.

And of course, it's not like United are going to be playing 4 teams who are already on holiday, so to speak. Like West Brom tonight with Arsenal, really.

Leicester and West Ham will be hard to beat, as you say. Bournemouth and Norwich might qualify as 'on holiday' by then, but knowing United's season, it'll probably be one of those games that seals United's fate officially! (if it hasn't already happened by then of course)

The one positive about not being in the Ch League is that surely that would get rid of Van Gaal. Three seasons running with no chance of winning the Ch league (2 down to him) will surely be enough to get him the boot. FA cup or no FA cup.

I was watching some old games earlier this week. One from after the early Ch League departure in 05-06 and the commentator was saying how it was almost unheard of for United not to be contesting the knock-out stages of the Ch League, and you know they'll be wanting to put that right by qualifying for next season.

Another game from that season was saying how unusual it was for United not to be contesting the title (they finished 2nd that season of course) and I think there was some stat mentioned about how they've never finished lower than 3rd for ... however many years.

It's stuff like that that make you realise how far United have fallen in 3 years. The once unheard of has become the norm.

That's just recent history though, remember those 25 long years in the wilderness after Busby, including Fergy's first few years? I do!

No team is immune occasionally to that, not us, not Liverpool, not anyone, and there are no guarantees about next season either, whoever the manager may be. Though to end on a brighter note, I think we will do better next season, again whoever the manager may be - but I have no idea how much better as that bit may well depend on the manager and which players he can attract in the summer.

Maybe it's a bit off topic but if we do manage to get to an FA cup final again and win it, then I'm going to party like it's 1999.

To be honest I think Arsenal v City will just sort out 3rd and 4th. I can't see us winning our last 4 games, which is probably what we'd need to do, the best we've managed this season is three league wins in a row, and that was way back in September.

Very true.

But in 1998-1999 we were waiting for results elsewhere (literally!) to ensure we even got through the group stage of the Champions League.

We did - only just! The rest as they say is history.

I'm clutching the shortest of straws I know.

I'd love us to win it, it's been a while, and we'd draw level with Arsenal for most FA Cup wins. I also don't want to go three seasons without a trophy, we need to break that lean spell ASAP.

Plus the last time that we did win it, it was a total and utter mismatch, so it would be nice to win it against a decent side, as that will be the case no matter who comes through the other semi final.

April 22. Which is turning out to be a very significant day as the years have gone on.

2 years to the day Moyes was sacked. We probably thought the mess he made was going to stop there, but sadly, it's carried on.

And 3 years to the day the 20th title was secured.

A conflicting emotions day, to say the least!

Everyone is banned. Of the top ten posters in this thread, 4 are currently banned and one other has just come back from a ban.

Not to mention that there's not much to add to the current grief-fest taking place.

That is not good to hear, hopefully those who are banned come back afterwards, this forum is much better when there are more people posting their opinions.

Hey the Under 21's just won their league, so something positive to hold onto amongst the "grief-fest"!

I'm going to the game tomorrow. Everything points to a routine win for us, so I'm expecting we'll find a way of messing it up. At least the atmosphere should be good, if nothing else.

To be fair you could carry on this thread by yourself.

You post an opinion, change your mind, agree to disagree and talk about good debates, rinse and repeat.

It doesn't actually require other posters .,

I would hate to be the only person here, this forum should be about expressing ones opinions, it would be pointless to be the only one here, I am very much for open dialogue with anyone that wants to talk about the club or football in general.
