Sorry, I was being a bit facetious. I would buy them on Blu-Ray as long as they continue to make make them.

Just a bit fed up of the continual move to downloads/streaming when some of us see no prospect of improved download speeds.

Yes, it's just the BBC Shop website that's closing.

I ordered £55 worth of DVDs on Monday and have received an email to say that they cannot fulfill all the items within my order. Not impressed. I'm not the only one either; looking at http://merchandise.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/ it seems that ALL of us that ordered DVDs have received the same email.

I ordered two DVD's that are missing from my collection and got the order confirmed ok. Then I got an email to say the items had been dispatched, only to receive the "cannot fulfill your order" email the next day!

Be interesting to see what, if anything, arrives!

The front page of the website now has a disclaimer saying that items may be cancelled...

I ordered a selection of DW and Sherlock dvds on Tuesday, then 2 different orders later in the week.

The one on Wednesday (the Murray Gold S3 soundtrack) has been dispatched according to the email I've just received, I'm confident that I'll get that one, not so confident about my Tuesday one now though I've not received any cancellation emails yet...

It's free delivery/shipping.

Placed my order of 3 DW related goodies on Wednesday & according to my account the order is 'Released for Delivery' but has not been despatched
No cancellation email as of yet though.

I'm not in the UK so it's not free shipping.

It's something like 6 euro for one item plus 2 euro per additional item.

So what are you going to do now? Wait, or request a refund? I'd personally request a refund, then look for the items on eBay. You may even find them in new condition, cheaper than you paid on BBC Shop.

Another thing, I know it wasn't BBC Shop, but some items that I have ordered off eBay in the past, have frustratingly not arrived, and as a consequence, had to be given a refund.

One item recently, after I ordered it, had to be refunded, because the seller had somehow mislaid it. They went to pack the item with a jiffy bag, and found that they couldn't find it.

So you are not the only one!

Anyone had any developments on this?

I still have 2 "released for delivery" order sitting there, one from last Tuesday! Clearly the remaining staff have been swamped by all the orders and their creaky stock control system...

I got an email yesterday to say one item was being sent and the other was being refunded, so I guess it's down to luck if they still have the items in stock for any other orders now...

Yeah but does this mean BBC products on DVD will now sky rocket in prices?

Why would they? It's not as if BBC Shop was a major outlet with high-volume sales (if it was then it would not be closing)

Got an email this morning, and my order from last Tuesday is being sent. A weekend wasted watching my new DVDs

Glad i completed my collection. BBC shop cheaper than Amazon with the free postage. Will be missed.

Both the BBC Shop and Amazon have had good offers, and it was nice to support the BBC rather than Amazon!

With Amazon, you need to spend £20 to get the free postage (without being a member of Prime) and it's really quick, I ordered something on Saturday and it arrived on Monday, it hardly makes much sense to pay extra for the 1 day delivery!

Because stuff like till death us do part sky rocketed once the dvds stopped being made. You try finding that series under 30 quid from money grabbing sellers.

If BBC shop closes that might mean BBC DVD prices go up.

There's a big difference between the BBC Shop closing and there no longer being physical home releases being released.

why would it? the shows will still be getting released on dvd and sold from all major retailers, just not the bbc themselves. I don't think itv or channel 4 have there own dvd stores yet their show releases aren't more pricey than they should be.

Personally I would quite like to own many more of the classic episodes of Doctor Who but I'm probably quite alone in not wanting to fill my shelves up with the DVD's.

I think I heard that you can only download from the BBC Store in iPlayer quality? I think you can get better quality from iTunes but even so I would be missing out on the extras.

I just find it rather annoying that in 2016 there still isn't a legitimate way to own a digital version of what is available on DVD. Physical products are so 1980's!

If it came down to physical DVD or just download I probably wouldnt bother. Kinda hate how the download thing goes.

Just make sure your downloads are backed up and that you've not exceeded the limit for the number of times you can download! If you don't, and then your hard drive fails, losing your precious downloads, you'll have to buy them all again.

Or they could get pulled from the store any time.

Of the DVD's could get pulled from the shop at any time...

I'm not suggesting digital download would replace the DVD's anyway as I know lots of people like collecting them but it would be nice to have the option of 'best quality available' downloads with all the DVD extras for those of us who prefer less clutter

Also re: backing up, that's what clouds are for init and even if you do misplace your copy of a downloaded thing most places allow you to re-download it for free anyway.
