Janet Jackson has scrapped all of her UK Unbreakable tour dates.

There was a thread a while ago talking about poor ticket sales and there was speculation that the dates would be scrapped.

I held off booking because I had a feeling that this would happen. It's a shame becauase this was probably the last chance UK fans would have a chance to see her perform live.

Is it definitely due to poor ticket sales? I'm shocked if so as she has a huge fanbase. I mean she's Janet bloody Jackson.

It states she had to undergo emergency surgery not so long ago. Could it be related

Plus her Father is very very ill (hinting he could die soon) - I was worried before the dates last year - he had a stroke and I had planned a San Francisco trip around it!!! Luckily it went ahead - I bought tickets for London.....disappointed but not devastated as I've seen the show

It's probably a combination of everything. If the tickets were all sold out, she'd probably just have postponed the dates.

Janet might be big name but she is no where near the level of popularity she was 10 years ago.

I don't know if it is entirely due to sales - but up to the end of last week when I checked there were a huge number of tickets available in Manchester. Not just the high tier either - floor block G was almost entirely available.

Exactly. It looks like her health has forced her to reschedule her US shows, presumably meaning no space for the UK dates. I would imagine she is prioritising the gigs that have sold well, and therefore the UK loses out.

Can't say I'm surprised, do people in this country actually care about Janet Jackson anymore? She's not remotely close to Michael's legendary status and its not like she has been having much success here in the last decade.

I think it's most likely due to low ticket sales. The other day I was looking for a couple of tickets to see her in London and just about every seat in the top tier was available, along with loads around the back of the bottom tier. I didn't buy any simply because I felt it wouldn't be going ahead due to this.

If it was 20% sold it's as much. And that doesn't include the tickets on sales from other sites either.

Not surprised really. It's probably down to lack of interest and sales.

She is hardly 'unbreakable' Her career is in pieces This would have been the last time we got to see her in the uk

I had tickets for the Birmingham show and am disappointed. It's been an uncertain one and I was more surprised when there were the announcements on Twitter etc. in late January/early February that the Europe dates were going ahead.

To be honest I had decided to travel up on the day rather than book train tickets and a hotel. I think I made a good choice!

That aside I'm glad I got to see her at the Royal Albert Hall a few years ago.

Well I'm totally gutted. I had tickets for the all for you tour and she cancelled that too. Seems like I'm just not destined to see her. I can't help but feel if she was playing smaller venues in the uk then we wouldn't be in this situation. I'm sure when She played RAH few years back it was a 3 night sell out?! She should of stuck to venues at that size. There has been no advertising or buzz about this tour in the uk so Christ knows how she was expecting to sell in 10k plus venues!

Not really a fan as such but 160 million records sold and a cancelled tour, did she ever have a fan base in the UK? I guess not..

Janet was hugely popular in the mid 80's to early 90's, especially with her Control and Rhythm Nation albums. She was a massive star back then. Throughout most of the 90's I'd say she was still a big star, with her albums Janet and The Velvet Rope. It's into the 21st Century I'd say she hasn't been as popular but I thought she'd still have a certain fanbase. A shame if her shows weren't selling well. I haven't really liked her stuff for a long time. I still enjoy her 80's and 90's stuff though. I hope she is well though and isn't going through too much of a bad time. I didn't realise her dad is really ill.

i was thinking similar things. i declined to go, even though i've never seen her. i was thinking partly that it wouldn't be the same as when she was popular back in the early 90s. seeing a woman that's about 50 trying to dance about and mime in an arena doesn't sound much fun. in 94 she may have been able to pull it off, but not now

but if it was in a 2-4 thousand capacity theatre so you could see what was doing on, then i may have done

her popularity has just went down the toilet. her last album was ok but just dissapeared after a short period. along with madonna, the music just isn't the same anymore. the good writers are working with younger more popular artists instead. even though jimmy and terry and back and they are great producers, their stuff hasn't been the same for a long time either

i think part of the problem is the family and the idea they are huge, which is something that's more in their head than in normal people, so they don't want to accept their peak is well over and big brother and stuff like that is more on their level of fame. look at the brothers failed attempt at a comeback. her stripped down show could have been interesting if she came here and played theatres, and she could have perhaps built on it by gaining critical and popular acclaim if it was any good

I'm sure that sales were a factor, but to be fair she's had some fairly well documented problems with her ears (vertigo attacks etc).

So apparently she will be back and rescheduling the uk and Europe dates! I have a feeling the new dates will be much smaller venues like Royal Albert Hall again!

Janet has been cancelling tours and various shows going back to 2001. It is very disappointing but it appears this a habit of hers.

This 'comeback' was a disaster. The cancelled UK dates were clearly called off due to very poor ticket sales.

'Postponing' the tour and giving this reason is a slap in the face to fans who have bought tickets. I think its an attempt at saving face.

A shame, because Unbreakable is a very good album.

Why did she wait a month to tell us that?

A few weeks before the tour was cancelled Itison who do deals for mostly restaurants, hotels and days out were offering Janet Jackson tickets for £41 instead of £62 (£21 off 33% reduction). They only sold 40 tickets at the reduced price. When I saw that I guessed they weren't selling well and was unsurprised that the tour got cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

Because a few months ago there was still a chance she could sell tickets

i find that reason a bit weird to be honest. Unless shes already pregnant, why couldnt she wait just another 4 months?? [tour was meant to end 28th August]. its not that long. Also shes 49 so must have been thinking about kids long before the tour so dont really understand why now. i understand its probably her last chance to have a kid but she must have been already planning to try in the next year so why would she announce a world tour??

I think its really because of low ticket sales

Whatever the reason - she's still made her 2nd best album IMO. Unbreakable is my fave album of the decade
