Then I think you will be in for a major shock. VM are not so generous with discounts and you rent their equipment, and once the service is deactivated the equipment is useless...at least with a Sky+ box it still is usable.
Not half as usable as a BT Youview box though, after you cancel! I now have two boxes after I upgraded to UHD last year, one upstairs for free stuff and recording, one downstairs with full BT TV services and recording. Total cost upfront over 2 years for the two? £49.

Sky phoned me yesterday offered me 5 months Free package and then 7 months at £10 until April 2017 when I decide if I want to commit fully to Sky so basically they do great offers,
Did you cancel to get that?

Sorry bit of back story I canceled about 10 days ago, they've repeatedly called me over the last two days with offers. Originally it was just 35% and amazingly after that being the "best we can do" today it was 50% - which im happy with - but a free engineer visit would be handy.
Contact them, say you are interested, but don't see the point as the equipment doesn't work properly, after they offer the £60 call out, say you can't afford that (one of the reasons you cancelled in the first place, cost), they should lower the cost.

If they don't, try someone else a few hours later.

In theory, it is a code given out by Sky Employees to their friends and families.

In reality, if you ask for a code in the thread i linked, someone will give you a code, it has happened on here for years.
Yeah technically for employees' friends and family members but they often give the codes out on forums such as these and I don't think Sky really care as it's all good business and publicity.

I signed up on one of these deals earlier this week. The employee simply puts your email address into the system which then generates the offer email which you'll receive. This has your unique code in it but also a simple link to follow which takes you straight through to the website ordering system with your offer already applied, it's quite straightforward.

They've only just started this F&F deal and are limiting the codes to small blocks I think so worth jumping on if you see anyone offering them.

Recap on my situation: I cancelled over a month ago and the best offer so far was 50% off on the app/mySky.

Today I went on the online chat to see if I could squeeze more out of them by using the false pretence that I wanted to know how much it would come to with 50% off. Eventually they offered me 50% with no contract and £50 credit. I turned it down,

Best I had was 12 months free but, admittedly, that was part of the O2BB buyout shenanigans.

Loadsa hassle and messing around for a few quid gain there. I cancelled, had a 50% off any package for 12 months offer within 1 minute, accepted, sorted. No messing around, no hassle.

Next up... next month... BT!

I joined Sky last year after i had an offer through the post for 50% off for 12 months on any package i wanted (went with the family pack) now that's going up along with a price increase i'll be looking to cancel on Friday (the earliest i can give my 30 days notice)

I take it the process will be just hold out and see whats on offer or does anyone know roughly what deals they have currently, i know they change them often or is it just luck of the draw as to whats on offer?

50% off at the moment, is what people seem to be getting offered very early on...though you do have to look for it, try My Sky, Sky Interactive & the Sky Service app...it will be on one of those.

You can give longer than 30 days notice.

Indeed, I gave almost three months notice.

I'll have a look 50% is what i'm looking for since i pay that now, i take it i have to wait until my contract is up or can i renew now if i find the discount offer?

I was told that I could give notice before (and did) but it was implied that it was an exception to a rule. I suspect they don't make it easy, just as my wife had loads of grief trying to get a PAC code from Three even though they're legally required to issue one on demand - not refuse until they've had a chance to transfer her to various departments to try and keep her.

If it's like Three, the key is to escalate things until you get through to the people who can do deals, and also set up your notice. They'll explain the usual stuff, like losing your recordings, and try again to get you to reconsider etc - but it wasn't very hard for me to leave once I said I was going over to Now TV.

Who knows, after a year of being a non-customer I may well return if Sky changes its pricing (which I think it will have to sooner or later) and I can get a good enough deal. It also depends on whether there's any likelihood of Now TV going to 1080 or even 4K in the future. Again, I don't think Sky can expect to get away with 720 or less forever. By all means charge something extra.

As they have put the prices up, you are entitled to cancel now, even if you are in a contract, so you can haggle now.

I got my e-mail about the price rise last week, still got about 14 months left of my contract, but was allowed to negotiate a deal last week, as i was allowed to cancel anyway.

He told me it was a new 18 month contract, which I pointed out was fine, as i could leave in 10 months when the price goes up again anyway (I believe it was December 2014, September 2015 and now July 2016).

They say something along the lines of "You can give your 31 days notice on XXth of XXX" but there is absolutely nothing stopping you giving longer than that.

It'll all depend on who you speak/online chat with, though. There seems to be a few different tactics in play but, at the end of the day, you can give longer than 31 days notice of cancellation.

Did the yearly contract renewal call yesterday for sky phone, broadband unlimited, line rental, sky+hd, sports, legacy variety and hd.
As in previous years, great discounts offered for a long loyal customer, length and loyalty was mentioned by them.
Paying same as last year and that was well discounted.
Was no trouble getting a good 12 month deal. So no price increase here but do expect the £1 line rental increase to come in December, but as that's discounted will be a lot less than that.
Must admit its always a pleasure talking with the sky sales team, such a friendly bunch. Got through straight away too.

Bonus, got a new sky q hub router for broadband to replace my current sr102.

Renewed for another 50% off deal for 12 months with a free engineer visit worth £60. Almost certain I could have had more thrown in had I of waited further but I was happy enough with that. The deals are easy enough to come by if you are prepared to cancel and then wait it out.

You're paying more now, after trying to cancel, and you're happy with that?!

Even if that's a mistake, 40% off still isn't the best deal going around by a long shot.

Got 50% off for a year. Contracted in but will be keeping it until the end of next season so works out well.

Glad everyone is getting good discounts. I still find it hard to believe that some people think everyone should be paying full price.
