Your not begging for a discount, your asking for the proper rate not the over priced rate you are currently paying.

Look at it like Next, their clothes range is over priced, the true rate is when they do the 50% sale, it makes it look like your getting a bargain, when in fact you really are paying the correct price for the product.
Maybe you should use DFS as a good example

Reading some of these posts, it looks like I caved in too early. I probably could have held out a little bit longer, so I am a bit annoyed. They did hit the price I was willing to pay so I guess I shouldnt be to disappointed.

Don't beat yourself up,you got a deal,be happy

There will always be someone who gets a bit more than others

My Sky is shortly out of contract,I can give notice at the end of May,I have in mind 50% off everything , Tv,Hd,Multiroom etc, which is what I got last year

After I agreed that deal I saw people were getting the same deal plus they got £50 to £100 credited to their account,so a better deal than mine, but it was good enough for me

I just rang Sky to negotiate a deal for the next year as my discounted deal comes to an end next month. i was offered 25% off straight away but I said no so I cancelled, within 5 minutes I was offered 35% off on interactive, and 5 minutes later I was offered 50% off any bundle for 12 months on My Sky. I still have a months viewing to go before it goes off so do you think I will get any better deal or should i take the 50% which I think I am happy with.

Depends what sort of deal you are happy with, by holding out you may get a credit on your account. You may have to lose Sky though to get a higher discount than 50%.

Just for information ......
Always haggle with Sky & we were disconnected two weeks ago tomorrow.
Last deal was 60% off and £100 credit on bill, we had everything in HD ( films & sports ).

They seem to be consistent in saying 50% off and £50 credit is the best we will get. Have tried online chat & phone.
Time will tell but after going through this every year for the last 5 or 6 now they usually would have improved the offers by now.

You're paying more now, after trying to cancel, and you're happy with that?!

Even if that's a mistake, 40% off still isn't the best deal going around by a long shot.
I'm paying an extra £4 per month compared to paying an extra £20 i would call that a win

Sky are also offering offers for Now TV customers when they threaten to leave. I bought a Humax Freesat box, and it's awesome. I signed up to Netflix on the box, (Curzon Cinema and Wuaki are also available) and because Netflix offers pretty much everything I get with Now TV (based on what I want to watch) I decided to cancel Sky Movies on Now TV. So I went through the cancellation process (it's dead easy with NOW TV) and right at the very end I was offered Sky Movies for £3.99 until the end of September. So, I accepted it because that's a £6 saving. I then thought that perhaps an offer on my entertainment pass would be made too! So I repeated the process. Sure enough, an offer appeared. The entertainment package for £3.49 a month until the end of September was offered. So, I accepted. So for pretty much what I was paying for Now TV (films and entertainment), I now have both Netflix and Now TV for the same price! I can decide in September what I want to do regarding Now TV or Netflix.

You won't always get offers on Now TV though, and remember to cancel if you don't want the price to revert as it will be ongoing.

It's cheaper to buy new boxes with vouchers from Amazon, Asda or anywhere else when you spot them. Grab a 4 month voucher for movies for £17 and you're laughing, and have a spare box too!

It's great to see the heavy discounting is continuing. Perhaps it's an admission by Sky that people are sick of being ripped off. Though still happy to rip off those who can't be bothered to get a deal.

To be fair thanks to everybody who pays full price, you're subsidising the discounts for the rest of us

Like a lot of people using this site, I have a discount.
But I would suspect the vast majority of people who don't even know such discounts exist continue to pay full price without adversely worrying Sky to the detriment of their business model.

My sky contract ends at the beginning of August, im now deciding what to do, at the moment i only get the £20 original bundle from sky and broadband from virgin for £17 a month, so £37 per month in total.

Now deciding wether to cancel and get a better package for the same price (im happy paying £20) or wetehr to cancel and get my girlfriend to sign up and get a free telly/laptop /2Tb box for £20 per month, or wether to ask virgin for some sort of deal.

I finally settled on a deal with Sky. I get everthing except movies plus HD for £35.75 per month for 12 months. I managed to get HD for £3 per month just by asking for it cheaper it should have been £12 per month. Im happy with £35.75 per month I think thats a bit of a result.

I phoned and cancelled my Sky package (original + sports) eleven days ago - I'd had a 10 months' half price offer that was just about to run out. Since making that call, the interactive offer on my Sky box has only been offering 35% off my current package for another 12 months, which I wasn't too fussed about. But today a letter came from Sky offering 50% off any package for the next 12 months. Good enough for me.

When I go into My Sky ( only My Sky - by double clicking it & not choosing an option at that stage ).
I get a summary screen of all the sub options and the last on the right is ' Left Sky in the last 12 months '
When clicking that I get a screen with all the various packages showing list price crossed ot & then 50% off price as well as an amount of money off your first bill - max £25 online but been increased to £50 via webchat & phone.
Presumably everyone sees that .....?

It's just their way of doing things I guess, they've proven that the great British public will pay up for an ad hoc collection of channels that they don't necessarily watch. If they gave us proper choice they would end up with less income, but I think they will eventually have to let people choose which channels they want to fork out for. Until then I'm with BT and spending my savings on BluRays from eBay

This is consistent with what I experienced today when Sky phoned me. He mentioned that the 60% offer wasnt available on their system so he couldn't offer it. 50% off and £50 credit was offered but I managed to get £100 credit. Overall I'm happy, even though I was currently on a 60% deal with a few months still to run.

I'm just guessing here. But if Sky phoned you then perhaps the system would only 'allow' the 50% offer, but if you had phoned them the 60% offer may become available.

Though thinking about it I can't decide which way around in contacting each other Sky would consider to be the more important and offer the greater discount to.

Or: the great British public once paid up for an ad hoc collection of channels that they didn't necessarily watch

- I think the tide it turning. I think all of those small channels showing repeats in a quality that represents a bad VHS recording are going to suffer in the future.

Are there that many people not aware of on demand services? Are there that many people who still have a broadband connection so slow they can't stream, or download for later viewing?

Are there not now a lot of choices for people, which mean Sky no longer has its monopoly? Especially when so many surveys show that when it comes to TV and film, a lot of people spend more time watching films they've already seen, and old classics, than the latest blockbusters that are first to TV on Sky? People can, and will wait, and perhaps the popularity of old 1980s and 1990s film on Netflix/Amazon and others is why Hollywood now seems to want to reboot everything from those decades.

Sky can of course get you if you like Game of Thrones. But contrary to popular belief, not everyone watches it!

Sky know that On Demand services are something they need to do much more seriously, I think NowTV is a test run for something bigger and SkyQ isn't it. They still make a profit on linear channels but nowhere near as much as with On Demand stuff and they want to see even bigger profits than they already have.

Indeed, Now TV was a very clever decision to launch. Sky must know the writing is on the wall, but obviously you don't ditch the traditional distribution methods until everything is perfect.. so Now TV is the 'poorer' sibling, but will one day grow up to take over.

Neither Sky or anyone else can predict when most people will watch on demand (all but live news events or sport, but that can also be streamed even if there is an acknowledged delay) so the way it is doing things makes sense.

Sky Q is fine given the fact that I doubt things will change in the next few years. By then the hardware will be showing its age and the majority of people might enjoy fast enough broadband to stream HD reliably, and hopefully even UHD.

Then it will come down to the rights Sky secures, just as it seems Netflix is going after more first rights in the USA, Apple has tried to for iTunes/Apple TV and Amazon and others are creating their own content.

As I have a faulty receiver I rang Sky to cancel and they did so without the mention of an offer or replacement receiver.

Just checked Sky Interactive and showing a 35% discount for 12 months.

I know I am in the driving seat but can't say I am really bothered thanks to a faulty receiver. Yes I know I can get one cheap off Ebay or similar.

Now thinking about BT TV for a change - obviously not as many channels but they cover all the sub channels that I watch so for me that is good. Will just wait and see what prevails because if I go to BT, I will also switch broadband and land line rental.
