Sky Not Doing Deals Anymore?

I have that on mine as well, but if I click on the link it shows the extra cost as been £35.00 a month...don't think it applies to those already on a current deal.

If you have an existing 50% offer then you can add sports or movies or whatever you want at half price though surely? I don't think you are confined to remain on the same package all year round if you want to change, and your discount should not be affected.

Best thing to do is ring Sky and cancel, don't take any offers over the phone, once cancelled log into your Sky account and there will likely be a 50% discount offer waiting for you.
Or if you are unlucky only a 35% discount,like me

Hi all...lurked on here for ages but thought I'd post some info. Have been with Sky about 15 years, always loved their services. My current package for the last couple of years has been:

Sky Full TV Package - movies, sport etc.
Multiroom
Sky Talk
Sky Broadband Unlimited

Last year I managed to get some great discounts (or at least what I thought were great) and I was paying £84 per month for that package which I thought was okay. I also subscribe to BT Sport so that took the whole lot to just over £100 per month.

The offers are now coming to an end, which would take my bill on full price to £116 per month (before you factor in the BT Sport cost) and I started speaking to them on live chat and over the phone and the most I could get them to offer was £93 per month, so far too much really. I then today was doing another live chat and seeing what they would do in terms of keeping me on the same package but also upgrading the broadband to Sky Fibre Unlimited and the best they could offer was £93 a month again (but at least with a BB upgrade thrown in).

I've tracked this thread for a few days and saw the amount of people getting deals, so I'm waiting it out until I get a great deal that also includes an upgrade to Sky Fibre Unlimited. I don't mind paying for a great service, and I do love Sky and feel I'm a loyal customer (who hasn't until the last couple of years started to source deals on my package), but I'd like to think I can bring down my monthly cost a bit.

I've cancelled through live chat today, leaving the phone and BB connected until I get another provider to organise the transfer - hopefully I won't need to as I'll get the offer of 50% off everything and an upgrade from Sky Broadband Unlimited to Sky Fibre Unlimited. I haven't had anything on My Sky yet, but just now I checked on the Interactive tab on the tv and it's already offering me 35% off. So, hopefully I just need to wait it out until the offer hits 50% (if that's what others seem to have suggested to do). Luckily I've still got the phone and BB and if nothing materialises I can at least look for a cheaper BB service and just stick with a good offer from sky to have the TV again (although it seems like they'll be throwing offers at me soon if I just wait it out).

I read the t&c of the offer after I clicked on the link, apparently the offer is not available in conjunction with an offer on the family bundle. I already have 50% off on Family & Sports.

Don't forget the Sky Service app as well....chances are 50% will be on that.

Update - only 35% offered on the Service App as well...it's still only day 1, so we have plenty of time to wait it out.

One thing that is annoying - is that Vodafone are offering me, as an existing customer on my mobile, 12 months free super fast fibre (76mb) when I take a landline phone account (£17 per month). Only thing is is that this deal finishes on 31st May (so 2 days) and I can't see Sky offering me the 50% before then...so what do I do??? Go with the Vodafone deal and then just hope Sky offer 50% eventually and just take the TV/Multiroom deal on 50%...or wait it out and see if Sky offer 50% off my package as well as an upgrade to Sky Fibre Unlimited? I'm really wanting to keep everything under 1 company as much as possible for convenience really, but the Vodafone offer seems good.

I have entered my cancellation and it gets turned off on the 25th June, on my account is been offered 35% off all TV channels but nothing off HD or Multiroom


I have 3 multiroom boxes and HD so that is a large amount with no discount been offered

I am currently on,but shortly ending 50% off all TV,50% off Multiroom and 50% off HD


If an offer that does not match my current offer then I will say Bye Bye to Sky at the end of June

My straight 50% off deal for full package, broadband and line rental ended last week and they won't budge from offering me 15% as 'you've had over £500 of discounts'. My monthly bill is around £95 a month, extortionate!
This is the problem with giving people excessive discounts for years. It's very difficult to persuade people to pay something closer to full price, when the business grows tired of giving away hundreds of pounds a year of potential profit to a certain segment of the customer base. 15% off is going to feel ridiculous to everyone who has grown accustomed to 50-60% off.

Ive came and went from sky a few times over the years, i only joined this time as i needed a new telly for the bedroom and it was only £240 for the year in original bundle with a free telly worth probably £150, so i renegotiated a discount with virgin media and knocked £20 off my broadband to cover the sky.

I will have no problems leaving in August, im ok paying £20 per month and my missus watches a few of the channels, but if they dont offer me something better than the original bundle for my £20, i will walk, the £100 credit and family bundle 60% off sounds good.

Or i may get my missus to sign up by herself and get another free telly/laptop or £150 pre paid credit card, and stick with the original bundle for £20

I don't think that will ever happen.
When a business reaches a point where they have a large customer base and are making a profit, they are able to take on additional subscribers without impacting their costs at the same rate as when they were growing that business.

They have all the systems in place, billing, staff to deal with technical problems, call centres etc etc.

Any additional revenue from 'extra' subscribers goes virtually straight to the bottom line profit. Yes there may be a minimal extra cost per subscriber but this is very very minimal indeed. This is called incremental costing.

So, when you have a massive majority of customers who are not wanting / willing / ignorant to the option of or unable to try to get a discount then you can offer discounts of the size that I am getting for example - 60% - and still make money.

At the same time you can try to get me to take other services such as phone & broadband and any other products that are not yet being subscribed to.

So I don't think that there will ever come a time when Sky will not offer deals to get as many subscribers as possible, the genie is out of the bottle and long may it remain so !

I don't work for Sky, but have a friend who does, he iften posts deals on Facebook, and that's the one he posted yesterday, available until 30th June (there were 3 pictures, a standard Sky deal for about £30, a deal for free Sports and Movies on SkyQ, they were both for new customers, the third picture was for existing customers wanting to upgrade to SkyQ, said no upfront fee).

Try posting in tbe thread for Friends and Family, someone might have a code.

Who knows for sure, anything is possible. I wouldn't say something will never happen. I agree the genie is out of the bottle though, and it will be very challenging short term to try and limit churn and heavy discounting at the same time. It's been going on too long now.

Assuming this is an issue for Sky, and it clearly isn't and you obviously have strong feelings about deep discounting can I ask why you haven't brought it up with Sky and see what they have to say, perhaps start a petition stating how it's unfair that others are getting huge discounts while you rightly pay the listed and correct price?

I'm not mocking it's a genuine idea. You also say you don't have Sky shares, but how about purchasing some to allow you access to the AGM where concerns can be raised.

I think it's a misunderstanding of the business model to think of it as "potential profit". It's a sement of the pay-tv market/customer base, who are largely unconvertible to the full price, but Sky are willing to retain at a discount for the reasons very well explained by nobby1963 in post #387.

Sky has around 64% of the pay-tv market at present, which I think would be an impossibly large share to hold without heavy discounts, given the strength of alternatives now available and the lower price-points available from some competitors.

Of course, it's difficult to judge exactly what would happen and some less assured revenue would likely be retained via wholesaling and Now TV because of the strength of Sky's content.

Personally, it wouldn't trouble me- even though I currently have a significant discount with Sky- if they were to take such a stance, because it wouldn't cause me to be a subscriber at Sky's full rate, and I know that I can achieve better value than Sky's full rates through other providers in my area.

I think that such a stance by Sky could also create benefits to consumers, because it would allow Sky's competitors to get a stronger foothold in the pay-tv market at Sky's expense.

had a letter come through yesterday for 50% off.
went straight in the bin as sky can stuff it.
wouldnt even pay 50% less for hundreds of channels repeating the same stuff over and over again across multiple channels. even at 50% off i still dont think its value for money.
will continue with my iptv at £13 a month that gets me all the genres that sky have including multiple film and sports channels.

Which one is that? There are far too many out there that are making folk pay for streaming channels that are illegal anyway and can be seen for free if folk do their homework. Dodgy scams, essentially.

I cancelled yesterday and am at the 35% deal offered already, of course I didn't expect it to go to 50% straight away...I just wondered if it took a couple of weeks or a few days (of course I know it could differ person to person as well).

Also - are the 50% deals on the whole package usually (TV, Phone, Multiroom, Fibre etc.) or are they just on the TV? I'm hoping to also upgrade to Fibre Unlimited if they do offer me a 50% deal to come back so hope they go for that as well.

I don't know, possibly straight away, I had only checked My Sky, it was a few days later before I checked on Sky Interactive which was offering 50% off the same bundle, and the Sky Service app was offering me 50% off any package.

I was only ever offered 35% off during my cancellation period, others have had 50% offered after a few days so it's random. It's usually only off TV packages, though. Phone and BB can be handled separately - I already have 50% off Fibre Unlimited which I got sorted with a few months back when I found out new customers were getting that deal...

When I canceled earlier this month I had 50% off straight away, Im not going to take that as its not worth it to me, I will only accept 75%+ off at the very least, preferably above 80% off, whether they do offer me that later is another thing!

Make sure you are opting in on marketing emails and that you have an up to date contact number on your account.

Whilst you will get a 50% offer on one of MySky / Service app come through at some point (actually took mine about 10 days to come through which was much slower than most on here, but as soon as it did I got it through email and post as well) you'll then want to talk to someone on the phone to use this as a starting point to get more - bill credit etc.

My 50% off was only off TV not broadband / line rental but I was at the disadvantage of the 2 being on separate contracts expiring at different times.

A very good point over looked on the discounting. Had I not been offered 50% off I would have easily cancelled and then my £50 a month would have been going to another provider. So as well as keeping some of my money (albeit a discounted amount) Sky have then prevented someone else having it.

Managed to get 50% off and a £50 credit earlier this month on Family plus sport (no HD). Yesterday got movies for £4.50 and HD for £3 with no contract. Movie deal is for 12 months HD for 6 but was told to call and re-negotiate. No deal on multi-room but my son pays me for that so no gain anyway.

Separately manage broadband for free, just line rental.
