Sky want me to take part in a survey and pay me £30. I wonder if I should hold out to see if they increase it?

If my TV contract expires in November, is it still too early to cancel? I've read people on here saying you don't need to give them 30 days notice that you can give them longer.

just wanted to share this as it's made me laugh

Just been on the phone to Sky as i'm looking at my options at the moment as I can get out of my Plusnet contract early. I can go to SSE for an 18 month deal for Fibre broadband and Anytime calls for £21 a month, but i was interested to see if Sky had any deals.

Went through all of the stuff regarding my details, usage e.t.c.. and he offered me anytime calls and unlimited broadband for £35.40 a month and offered a "massive" discount of £5 a month.

I told him that i'm currently paying plusnet £22.99 a month and that I could get the SSE deal for £21 because i have to think about monthly cost more than anything.

He immediately said "Ok, is there anything else i can help you with Sir ?".

Not even "Sorry but we can't currently match those deals" just straight to "Get lost"

What's the situation in terms of traffic management with that SSE deal though? Anything that's traffic managed would do my head in.

I pretty much get 39Mbps all day with Sky, and something that 'shapes' any aspect of what I do would just irritate me. This is probably why I'd only go with either Sky, BT or TalkTalk.

Although, I stand corrected if anybody else does 'truly unlimited'.

SSE do have traffic management but I'm trying to find out how severe it can get. but then, to be fair, I don't really think it would affect me that much - Plusnet do something similar and I haven't noticed any major problems in the last 8 months.

As long as you give them 'at least' 30 days notice and the final day lands on your contract expiry date or after, then you'll suffer no penalty.

Meaning you can give them more than 30 days notice right now if you wanted to.

If you gave them ONLY 30 days notice right now, then you'd have to buy out the remainder of your contract, unless they cut a deal.

Thanks. So if I call them now and just tell them I am giving them notice and not mention the 30 days they will have accept it?

Stuck in two minds whether to go for Sky Q or just get a discount on my current package. Currently paying £98 a month for all sports, movies etc with 2 multiroom boxes, so could go for Sky Q and save £6 a month, or threaten to leave and get the bill down to £45ish.

They are offering free Sports & Movies for new customers for SkyQ through Friends & family, or for existing customers, no upfront costs but paying full price monthly.

I am holding on to see if they offer a deal for existing customers on Sports/Movies, as that would be more beneficial in the long run (saving £38 a month - or whatever the current cost is - over even 12 months is better than saving £150/£250 up front.)

Just went to cancel and all they offered me was 25% off TV packages. I also have broadband with them.

Went through with the cancellation so will play the waiting game now.

Have you tried logging into your Sky account. I had 50% off + £50 credit there immediately after getting off the phone to them.

No, you tell them you're giving notice that you don't wish to continue past your contract expiry date, even though that is over 30 days off.

I never got offered anything over 33% off at any time during my notice period. Possibly due to having 12 months free plus 2 years at 50%. I've had my pound of flesh for a while, haha.

I went to Shop > Existing Customers and My Sky > Upgrades > Offers but it still shows the same deals that were available to me before I cancelled.

Cancellation has definitely gone through as I have had confirmation e-mail and my next and future bills have changed to reflect this.

Edit: I downloaded the Sky Service app and have an offer of 35% off for 12 months. Will check Interactive in bit.

Managed to snag 60% off and £100 credit on my to subscription with sky. Took their lowest bundle ( original? ) for £8 per month - so in effect I'm getting it free for a year.

Contract had been cancelled and just held off and held off until they emailed me that offer.

That is the route that I took.I cancelled completely at the beginning of June. The first offers were 20% and then 25% off, which I ignored! I resigned yesterday with the deal you were offered! As you say virtually free for a year!

Cancelled yesterday intending to move to BT.
Still nothing showing on my account as an offer to stay though. Rather surprised by that. Where would I find it?

Cancelled yesterday using live chat. 50% off offer appeared within minutes on the sky service app. Phone this morning and got the 50% off with £50 credit.

Easy peasy.

People need to be saying exactly what they are getting for there money

eg

Managed to snag 60% off and £100 credit on my to subscription with sky. Took their lowest bundle ( original? ) for £8 per month - so in effect I'm getting it free for a year.
Taking just a basic package, no sport/movies/box sets/ etc for £8 a month means sky are letting you have the same as freeview/freesat but with a few extra channels eg atlantic and the ability to record, its a good deal but not its not a bargain for £8 a month.

Also proof of theses fantasic offers would help this thread

You seem to have missed the bit where the poster stated he/she also got a 100 quid credit on their bill, which equates to MINUS 4 QUID for the year. And you don't think that is a bargain?

What if somebody accidentally identifies themselves when posting proof on here? A quick search online generally verifies everything that's been said (and I don't mean using the broken DS search function)
