The Cancellation Game
So my contract ends next month, and I've heard you're best to give notice to cancel, and then within a few weeks, they contact you with a ridiculously cheap offer for your account.
Is this correct? Any success stories? Thanks |

Yep - lots -I've not paid full price for TV package for 4 years now; had either 50% or 60% off plus an account credit on three occasions.Longest I've had to wait after signal switched off,is 5 days!

How do they contact you, and what do you do, just request cancellation in the last month of your contract?

Now offering me 50% off for 12 months, but on a rolling contract? What's the point in giving me that?

What the point? The point is to try and get you to keep subscribing, what else do you think the point would be?

I mean the rolling contract. It seems odd they would offer that.

I've been getting 50% discount and credits for the last 2 years (I haven't paid a penny in that time). I received an email with the following offer:
Here's an exclusive offer to make your next five years with Sky the best yet. Your current Sky TV offer will be automatically extended and applied to your account, so you don't even need to get in touch. There's no new contract or upgrade required and your package will stay exactly the same. |

Virgin Media are offering their VIP bundle for £85pm, what are the chances of Sky matching it?
Currently have bt broadband but would be willing to move it all across to get a decent deal. What is Sky's BB like? |

And i like the offer of a rolling contract too because im not wanting to be tied into a deal when i may decide i want to drop it all. I was offered mine over the phone, i was called around 2 weeks-ish after i cancelled Sky, for Original + sports (SD) for £19 a month for 12 months contract-free! They'll always make offers. They rather have you paying something than nothing, plus, it keeps their subscriber numbers up which looks good to shareholders etc. |

I've just completed the cancellation game, with success
![]() Our package was - Full HD Service, Films & Sports etc and was coming in at £108/mth. I realised that this was an absolutely bonkers amount to be paying for a TV package. Phoned them up, told them that I wanted to cancel - they asked why - told them it was too expensive and I was going to go with FreeSat HD and Netflix as that should cover 90% of my viewing needs, and as for the football, it's a good excuse to go to the pub for a few pints to watch the game. They offered me something straight away over the phone - think that it was 1/2 price films and sports - something like that anyway, taking it down to £70/mth Told them I still wasn't interested, and to proceed with the cancellation. My Sky service was due to stop this week sometime. I just received a phone call from some Sky fella saying that they've managed to talk to their boss and they can offer me the Full HD, Movies, and Sports packages for £50 fixed for 12 months. I must admit that I was getting a little nervous about them calling my bluff and actually proceeding with the cancellation - but they buckled, and I'm saving myself £58 a month. SWEET

My 12 months since rejoining Sky will be up on 15th January, so I'll be giving my 30 days notice on 15th December, and see what they offer me. My first year back had free broadband and 50% off tv incl movies costing £50/month but that will be rising to about £80/mth after January, so hoping for a similar offer to stay.
However I am inclined to just push on with the cancellation and hope for a decent/better retention offer being offered or added to my MySky account. That said, I'm growing a bit disappointed with the cinema channels. The premieres aren't as good as they used to be, since they started pushing them out daily. And When they are splitting Disney and Pixar movies onto 2 separate channels, you worry that maybe they are struggling to fill the channel slots properly. |

I went on today to enquire about SkyQ, My Sky went off start of November, previously I had been on 60% off for 12 months. They made me an offer of 50% off for regular Sky HD and damn all for Sky Q, Well I tell a lie, the Sky Q box was free but then its free anyway these days, the sub was full price.
