Both the highly rated QB's are number 1 and 2 picks
Jared Goff is the number one draft pick and selected by the Rams and Carson Wentz is picked at 2 by the Eagles http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/tracke...bs:dt-by-round |

i am fairly happy with the cowboys pick
ezekiel elliot was described as being the closest to "pro-ready" of all the top ranked players and hopefully if the cowboys O line can get back to its form of 2 years ago then he could be a very good addition |

I'd be lying if I said it wasn't annoying that we lost out on Jackson by a single pick and to the bloody Bengals of all teams. I'll take Burns though, get's interesting from here.

Because he is deemed to have gained an unfair advantage, it's not techincally against the game rules (So they can take superbowl win away from them), but it is violating the NFL policy on the integrity of the game.
That term is massively open. I am suprised they haven't reworded the rule about ball pressure though... |

I'll simply say this, there is no evidence that they did anything to gain any advantage, they did not in fact gain any advantage. Once you accept and understand that basic rules of nature apply to NFL footballs as much as anything else the 'case' against them simply falls away. |

massive gamble by the cowboys in the second round
take a guy who had at one point been rated as a possible #1 pick but had a bad injury last year and will likely miss the whole of 2016 and may never be 100% right again obviously hoping he will fully recover from the injury and they will end up with someone who has #1 talent |

Could a draft system ever work in football? Obviously the college system doesn't exist here but perhaps clubs could pick from academy players for their first professional contract.

No.
Would be absurd for so many reasons but here's three: 1) The NFL has no competition from other leagues in other countries, top prospects have nowhere else to go but the NFL. Here they could head off to Spain, France, Italy, China etc. 2) Every NFL team is on essentially the same level here we have different leagues and promotion and relegation. You couldn't have the best young player in the nation going to Dagenham & Redbridge 3) Here football clubs bring young players into their system as young as 5 years old. NFL draftees are generally in their early 20s. Development happens at academies here not at universities. There is no way that you would keep young footballers playing amateur soccer until 21 and a draft of 5 year olds sounds rather creepy to me |

The main problem is that clubs themselves develop players from a young age so some sort of compensation scheme would be necessary. |

no way could a draft work in football because the whole system of player movement and development is different
unless you change the whole structure you cant just add a draft and expect it to work it works in US sports as there is a clear age group progression from high school to college to the pros. we dont have anything near that sort of linear development of players here. in the US the draft is designed to allow the "worst" teams from the previous year the first choice of players. how would that work here when the "worst" teams are relegated? where would the pool of players to form the draft come from given that age group progression doesn't exist. just a complete non-starter unless there was a full systemic change in the structure of the leagues, which isn't going to happen. |

Great video of Laremy Tunsil if you haven't seen it. What a thing to deal with on draft night.

I heard two years ago not three which would make it during his time at Ole Miss which in turn rather calls into question all those tests he passed.
The Ravens say they would have taken him but for the video according to ESPN which means it cost him at least $7 million! The NFL's rules on weed are dumb but you can kind of understand teams being wary when you look at how Josh Gordon's career has been 'blunted'. |

The clip I saw with Sky Sports pundit (fan of Dolphins) Neil Reynolds holding his head in his hand when they selected him does't warrant confidence . The other pundit commented he's going to the party capital of the world as well

Something of nothing really... from when he was in high school, so 3 years ago. And he's passed all drugs tests since. Falling to 13th for the best player in this years draft the Dolphins got an absolute steal. Makes me laugh how NFL is still run by so many middle aged white guys, although it coming out 15 minutes prior to the draft probably spooked them.
The problem is that these teams spend millions and millions researching players, they probably knew everything about Tunsil, his Stepfather issues, his whole family etc and then suddenly they are hit with this. It would make them wonder what else they don't know about. |

If he's half as good as his brother , will be a tremendous signing....
Buffalo Bills signed Glenn Gronkowski, the younger brother of Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, as an undrafted free agent on Saturday. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...ted-free-agent |

just reading that dallas made a bit of a strange selection with their last draft pick as well
picked a guy who has been playing college basketball but wants to convert to NFL as a tight end and hasn't played the game since he was 13 |

RG3 gets the nod over Josh McCown
Just over 4 weeks to go and RG3 has got the starting spot: Robert Griffin III is back atop a depth chart for the first time in more than a year. The former Offensive Rookie of the Year and No. 2 overall pick was named Cleveland's starting quarterback Monday in an announcement made by the club. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...ii-starting-qb |

Good news about the BBC highlight show. No Mike Carlson though?
For those you've been missing football this preseason (not seen these discussed on here) Hard Knocks (Sky Sports/GamePass) - Following the LA Rams and in particular the #1 pick rookie, Jared Goff. A much better HK than recent years, IMO. All or Nothing: A Season with the Arizona Cardinals (Amazon Prime) - as it says on the tin, completely fantastic. Highly recommended Last Chance U (Netflix) - Follows East Miss in Junior College football. For fans of Undefeated IMO, not finished watching it yet but it's good. |

NFL Redzone is also on Sky Sports Mix this year it seems, so if you have Sky/Virgin but not the full Sky Sports package, you will have that every Sunday. Even if you already have Sky Sports, it now means Redzone will be in HD every week and no need to press the red button.
Plus they are likely to move some of the late matches onto that channel as well, think the season opener is. |

NFL ended up being the only reason I paid for Sky Sports in the end, so I can ditch the whole lot now, magic.
