The discount will continue until you change plan.

I do wish all networks could properly show the monthly cost, rather than confuse with the full rate and a discount that gets applied at bill time. It makes the bill estimator features on some apps rather useless.

Phew! Thanks for letting me know - I was just a bit concerned when it said £34.99 in My EE! So long as they keep the discount, that's all that matters.

Also, what happens when the 12 months is finished? Will it just become a rolling 1 month SIM, and if so, will it go up to £34.99 or stay at £19.99?

Also, something that I have noticed - the 16GB SIM is back on SIM Only, on EEs website, as £34.99 - however, EE are now running a promo on the 8GB SIM, which is now £19.99 (the same as what I am paying for the 16GB SIM). Maybe they couldn't justify doing promos on the 16GB SIM anymore?

The discount is ongoing. There is nothing anywhere to suggest otherwise, so EE would be in for a whole world of pain if they removed the discount.

The application of a discount is how all networks manage promotions, but where it is time limited it must be said clearly before you complete an order. The end date, such as when EE did discounts for the first three or six months, would be stated.

I've had a MBB account since they were first launched on EE and the discount had been in place ever since. Means I pay £5 for 15GB. However if I change plan, I'd expect to lose it.

As for the current SIM only deals, I'm sure they'll soon be changed to the new plans for contracts, whereby who knows what the discounts will be?

End of my contract reached! But as I'd already managed to get the 10GB tarrif out of them for £22, I see no compelling reason to upgrade and have no desire to cancel. On it shall roll.

How's all the 800/VoLTE stuff going, any progress? I kind of gave up But Nougat should be hitting my phone soon so I don't know if that maybe adds access.

I know, not widely though. I'm coming at it from the perspective of a non iPhone user who isn't in one of the 7 favoured areas with 800 coverage though.

We've done this before though, I think. Let's not start playing that game again though, eh?

Picking up very weak band 20 on EE now. VoLTE works on a 6s. Hoping when the power is increased coverage might improve to be more than a few metres next to my window.

Picking it up in a few places but for everyone I've connected to you can tell it's currently being transmitted on low power so that the range is comparable to 1800mhz. I don't know what they are even waiting for now, just whack it up now!

Think this may have been a bug rather than actually seeing VoLTE, but I was in the pub last night connected to WiFi and instead of seeing the WiFi calling symbol I saw the VoLTE symbol. On a Galaxy S7 Edge.

1. Make sure you have a 4G signal.
2. Go to phone dialer and enter *3001#12345#* and then tap send.
3. Go to serving cell info.

Frequency band indicator will be either 3, 7 or 20 (1800, 2600 or 800).

You normally have to wait a bit for all the fields to populate.

Apparently the S7 Edge does now support it so you may have been on Band 20.

Wouldn't have expected to see the icon by default, I have it on mine but that's because I've been playing with the IMS settings to show when it's connected through the IMS.

Easy way to tell is to make a call and see if it drops to 3G or not

Not sure about the Edge, but the non-edge certainly is

Updated my 6P to Nougat. FWIW, in case there was any misguided optimism, no it still can't access VoLTE!

The problem is Google don't care and neither do the networks. Top notch support from Google

Looks like EE are closing some switching sites. This is quite a big place, how could they have needed it at one stage and now they don't?

Some sort of network merge with BT? A redundant site from Orange? Moving to modern equipment?

Seems squarely on the networks to me - Google has had support for VoLTE since early 2015 (5.1) and OTA carrier updates for a year (6.0). The attitude of the networks is that if it's a phone you don't have to buy from them (with the network branded firmware) then eff you, basically. Apple is a little different as they seem more keen to strong-arm the networks into doing things their way and obviously they sell those by the truckload.

If Apple can get the networks to do proper Carrier Updates then there is no reason why Google and OEM'S can't do it either. A mix of laziness and why bother supporting a device when you can force them to buy a new phone. Even Google support for Nexus devices has actually gotten worse. Google cut support a few months short of 3 years for Nougat on the Nexus series recently.

The difference is Apple can say it's the Apple way or the network doesn't get the iPhone. It doesn't have quite the same threat for Google not to supply the Nexus phones and the other Android users are all separate companies who would probably jump to fill a gap if say, Samsung, tried to enforce an update policy or a removal of their product from a network.

No one else has the clout Apple has with networks.

Google should force Carrier Updates across all supported devices. Sitting on your hands and saying "I can't do it" is not a legitimate excuse. Control needs taken out of the OEM'S hands as they have shown they are not capable nor willing to do it. In the tech world complacency is the worst thing you could do. There are no shortage of good examples of that. Nokia is one that instantly springs to mind.

If Steve needs / wants to keep the Sky Q router set up as it is, he might be able to plug a cheap additional wifi router (that has been confirmed as working with iphone wifi calling) into one of the LAN ports and set the iPhone to be the only device that connects to that secondary wifi network. Wonder if that would work?
The Sky Q Silver box and all mini boxes act as APs for wifi which is pretty cool but actually standing next to the main Q box with the phone, the wifi strength seems to fluctuate wildly on my SE so something is not quite right. The Q box is CAT5 to the hub at the other end of the house so there shouldn't be any issues there.

In my barn I have another Sky hub (not Q) for ADSL on a seperate line with CAT5 to the house and a cheap Belkin AP. Putting the phone on this, I get rock solid wifi. So I've told the phone to forget the Q wifi for a bit and will use the barn DSL and see how that goes. That's just standard Sky ADSL although I think it may be the same model of hub.
