I'm case anyone is mad enough to buy one, the Pixel and Pixel XL will support VoLTE on EE.

Now hoping that means we might get it on the other Nexus phones.

You can still use the old one (for now...)

Given the Nexus range have been discontinued I and pulled from stores I reckon the answer is no.

The questions to ask is it Firmware specific to EE? Will it work on Three with VoLTE? Is it locked to EE?

While the Nexus range used generic Firmware and are unlocked have Google may changed that with the Pixel?

Interesting decision. I can understand why Vodafone's does it, as their 4G coverage is too embarrassing to let you zoom out or default you anywhere but Birmingham

I will be quite annoyed if this is the case. I'm not sure whether to be annoyed at Google or EE more - probably both!!

Not a fan Jon?

Sorry to take the thread OT but do you think there are better value options out there? Oneplus3?

We might be lucky in that the EE settings are included in the non exclusive parts of Android 7.1. If so when that rolls out to Nexus devices VoLTE may be available.

EE have introduced the ability to report suspected network problems via the checker, which is something.

I'd like to see all the mast sites, like the O2 checker, but EE do not readily release this information. I believe they've had issues with customers complaining directly to landowners when there has been issues with EE accessing sites to repair faults.

Giffgaff really is rock-bottom in terms of priority on the O2 network though... Local upgraded CTIL mast gives 3Mbps down on Giffgaff 4G!

Don't have an O2 or Voda SIM to test but I'm sure they'd be better.

Puts me in mind of when I was configuring QoS the other day on a router and there were 5 options, including express, standard etc....

Quote "Bulk - The bulk class is only allocated remaining bandwidth when the remaining classes are idle. If the line is full of traffic from other classes, Bulk will only be allocated 1% of total set limit. Use this class for P2P and downloading services like FTP.

Sounds like what Giffgaff are set to on O2's network!!

All this talk of EE only upgrading legacy sites to 2G/4G and leaving 3G outside MBNL, really doesn't bode well when said 3G site is old kit, prone to falling over or locking-up and outside official support!

If you're thinking of getting rid of 3G in the next 5 years or so, it probably makes more sense to let the old 3G kit rot, install new 2G/4G kit that can eventually be modified to all 4G if necessary.

People demanding good mobile coverage and data now will be advised to get a 4G phone, supporting VoLTE, and they'll be as cheap as chips. Sure, you'll have Google/Samsung/Apple trying to sell you £1000+ phones, but I am sure there will still be phones starting at the £50 mark too.

Apparently the OnePlus 3 should support EE WiFi Calling now too. Can anyone confirm?

There is a mast local to us that is Orange 2G only and it's due to have EE 4G and MBNL3G added to it. Look like this is scheduled for next week if the Scottish roadworks site is anything to go by.

The mast that serves my house also had MBNL 3G added to it in past few months. So sites are still being converted to MBNL just very slowly - of course they may not all get it.

Beans,

O2 and Vodafone SIMs provide very substantially higher speeds than giffgaff, I can assure you!

I live very near a CTIL site. As such, the signal on O2 and Vodafone is extremely strong. Vodafone provide around 30 Mbps on 3g 2100, and better on 4g. O2 is similar on 4g, but somewhat less on 3g. Meanwhile, giffgaff are giving 0.7 Mbps on 3g, and just over 2 Mbps on 4g. This is while practically sat on top of the mast.

@Pedro_C

Out of interest, how many masts do EE use nationwide in comparison to Three, Voda and O2?

RootMetrics speed tests count towards EE data usage or not these days?

No, they don't. You can even perform tests without topping up a pay as you go SIM, but the maximum speed in this case is capped at 30 Mbps. All other speed tests use your allowance.

Ookla's app can eat 200MB or more on a single test now speeds are rising. It's great that EE and Vodafone each have ways to do tests without consuming data. Only O2 and Three don't, but the latter doesn't matter if you have an unlimited plan.

EE have 18,500, not sure on the others.

Another 6P update received, don't think I even need to say it didn't add VoLTE (doubtful we'll ever get it on these now)

I am still hopeful that the EE Settings (why they can't just add the Carrier Configuration https://source.android.com/devices/t...g/carrier.html I don't know) are part of the Android 7.1 stuff that isn't Pixel exclusive.

I hope I never get moved off this plan. Unlimited speed and 500MB data a day roaming (albeit at £3 a day) for £16.49 (with 10% discount for another account) is far better than those new Max Plans that also want to force me to take BT Sport.

I renewed my EE home broadband today. £1 a month for 18 months (plus line rental, which is £17.50 a month, although I intend to pay the whole 18 months up front to save £40 or so), plus 5GB of data added to my mobile plan, so that will take me to 21GB a month.

I'm very happy with this!
