I renewed my EE home broadband today. £1 a month for 18 months (plus line rental, which is £17.50 a month, although I intend to pay the whole 18 months up front to save £40 or so), plus 5GB of data added to my mobile plan, so that will take me to 21GB a month.

I'm very happy with this!”

Seems to have vanished off the website now. It was there this morning.

I got the 4GEE MAX plan and get 24months of BT Sport via the app.

Now I understand its says the app, but just wanted to know if I could log in on the BT Sport website and stream from the BT Sport website?

Currently paying £32.99 a month to have it on Sky and apart from the Champions League and odd Prem game I can't justify paying it anymore, and would be nice to watch it on my Mac via the web browser.

@jonmorris

What do you think the best app is for estimating the location of EE masts and showing which you are connected to?

I find different apps give different results, although I do like Cellmapper.

I've never found any app that looks good at predicting where sites are!

If you are in an area like Hull where every mast has been cellmapped well and then placed on the map by someone who has visited the mast, it is incredibly accurate!

Thanks Pedro. I have found it to be the best app so far.

Quick general question....

I believe EE are currently using over 18 000 sites, and Three UK maybe about two thirds of this number?

How many sites are O2 and Vodafone currently using? I'm not sure what the situation is now with respect to Cornerstone and all the resulting changes.

Open Signal is dire in this respect.

Number of sites is a relatively meaningless number. O2 and Vodafone''s post upgrade mast pool will not be collosally different in terms of members I believe.

Thanks. I'm under the impression that the mast pool is similar in numbers to EE?

I suppose it's mainly out of interest. Although not always meaningful, like you say.

As an aside, I've kept looking out for EE 800 Mhz, now that my phone does VoLTE.

Not found any band 20 around here. Tonnes of band 3 everywhere, obviously. And more band 7 than suggested by the coverage map. I get that impression that the few major rooftop sites in my town centre are all doing band 7.

Band 20 is hidden. It is around though just not visible. What phone are you on?

2600 is also more around than suggested by the coverage map. CA shown on the map is very conservative outdoors. About right indoors.

The map seems out of date. As an example, both local hospitals have band 7 all around the site, but none is shown on the map.

I'm using an S7 Edge with EE ROM on VoLTE. It seems strange that band 20 would be hidden from VoLTE devices, but I suppose it's still in testing.

It should still be there, MSE has a special deal on related to the price plan that only expires on the 18th of October.

Quote:
“Until Tues 18 Oct, for EE* newbies we've blagged a 12-month contract with unlimited UK minutes and texts and a healthy 16GB of 4G data for £19.99/mth. Plus, with the code AWOCTMSE70, you'll also get a £70 Amazon voucher (factor this in and it's equiv £14.16/mth).

Also included in the deal is: six months' Apple Music (norm £9.99/mth), even if you've used its free three-month trial; six months' BT Sport via its app (norm £5/mth); and you can use your calls and texts (NOT data) at no extra charge when roaming in Europe.

Here's how to get the deal:

Go to the EE* site.
Add your 'free' extras.
The Amazon voucher should be auto-applied in the basket but if not, click on 'Got A Voucher?' and enter the code AWOCTMSE70 (available online only).
Continue to payment; you should receive your Sim within three days.
You'll be emailed a £70 Amazon voucher from a third party within three months of your Sim activating. Any issues, email mse@ee.co.uk.

Make sure you cancel the extras BEFORE they run out if you don't want to keep them.

Need-to-knows
12-month contract.
If you exceed your data allowance, you'll need to buy an add-on to get more.
Tethering is allowed on this plan.
You'll be credit-checked – see our Credit Scores guide.
EE may increase the price annually in line with inflation.”

The EE link on the MSE website does go to the 16GB plan (or at least to a basket including the plan and the £70 voucher).

Map is partially out of date. Some people on here track the changed date on the API but it's not as simple as that

You won't see any 800 around but I would look for it on your device CAed with 1800, you may find some around that way.

I've noticed 800MHz as the only connected frequency on my iPhone on a number of occasions.

Here's one example when I took a screenshot.

On my S7 Edge I don't often see the 800 on its own, but do as the 2nd carrier in CA:

Interesting. CA around here is always 20 Mhz band 3 plus 20 Mhz band 7 added, or vice versa.

I think EE has been testing 800 on low power, with VoLTE, for some time. To be honest, on low power it doesn't really serve much purpose (besides testing) but I can't wait until it's turned on properly - and restricted to VoLTE phone users only.

Of course, I also need a phone that supports VoLTE and that's a bigger problem. I am not about to buy a Pixel or iPhone just to get it, when I have a barrage of phones (not EE supplied) that should be usable if only EE and the manufacturers pulled their fingers out.

My phone didn't support it either, until I flashed the EE firmware!

Ok let me rephrase for those of you who are inflicted with chronic pedantry & can't go more than 10 minutes without aggressively challenging someone in some kind of bizarre manner.

In normal situations because 800 is not fully launched yet you won't see it. It is activated and broadcasting but you won't connect to it.

Occasionally due to it being tested or due to a few other factors you will see it. It is generally hidden through either Serving Layer Priority, not being configured in handover or through being power restricted below other layers.

I see it quite a lot at home now but that's because I get essentially no other signal from EE. It works, kinda. It's as weak as Three's 800MHz (which is coming from a mast 10+ miles away and that's at full power) but no idea which mast it's coming from.

I suppose the proportion of 4g masts set up for 800 MHz isn't that high at the moment, and those that are are mainly in the testing phase.

I believe EE are wanting to launch it on around 3800 masts over the next few years.

If you know of a better way of tracking changes to the EE coverage map, then please share! I'm sure many of us can handle the technical intricacies.

But regardless, the EE map is significantly out of date and is well overdue a refresh. I don't know why EE take so long to show off their latest 4G coverage expansion; why keep it secret?

Are you feeling ok? Someone refuting a statement isn't any form of pedantry, they just aren't agreeing with you, and you are quite strange to see that post as an aggressive challenge in a bizarre manner....

You are tending to quite an overreaction there.

So me sitting on my sofa using my phone isn't a normal situation?

Is this one of those statements that could best be described as an ignorant thumbsuck? Or are you privy to the network infrastructure team at EE?

PS
800 hands over to 1800 and WifiCalling just fine...
