I still wonder how they actually turn on VoLTE, do they need to send an engineer to a cell site and change a config, can it be sent remotely? How are they choosing areas to enable, is it based on 4G mast density, or something else?

The updated coverage map for Nottingham has a reduction in 2600MHz, was the map actually wrong before or have they actually switched off some of the 2600MHz masts?

So, no one else has been able to connect to 800mhz yet?

Alright, alright, it's really alright!
![]() I know what you're on about, with the dancing puppets and the bodged release of VoLTE that required you to lose 3G totally (and that there was no VoLTE on 1800 either)... C'mon Three, make it right - don't bodge things! ![]() Alright, we know that's not going to happen... Let's hope that EE actually shows Three how to launch VoLTE properly, and that you have the priority of 4G800 above 3G2100, so that users with VoLTE phones can stay on 4G all the time and see the improved coverage ![]() |

Seems to be town by town and I assume it can be done remotely, or else that's another huge cost with hundreds upon hundreds of new site visits.

With how slow the rollout is I'd be surprised if it is just a case of enabling it remotely.
Other than the initial cities that were tested and are now fully enabled, I've not heard of any additional cities being enabled for VoLTE so something must be holding up the rollout. |

Thus far, if you opt in on your iPhone you can get access, and EE can monitor the results. If the roll out is delayed, it would imply they've had some issues. And these are the issues they want to iron out before launching, as their call failure rate cannot be allowed to increase as a result of launching VoLTE. The fact there's a live customer test at all definitely suggests remote monitoring and updating, as I assume that they could disable VoLTE as quickly as they enabled it if they had to. |

They have however said that the S7 would get VoLTE shortly after release, it just depends what EE's definition of shortly is.

Unfortunately no change to the 800 layer so nothing new to show at this point.

I think EE has a while yet, and I think it would rather face complaints from S7 users than have everyone complaining about an unreliable network. We all know EE has been in no rush to launch VoLTE. |

Have you got the current layer then? Can't remember you posting it?

I'm not saying that's the real coverage, only what's showing up on EEs coverage map online.

I can pick up EE on 800 here and I'm nowhere near London. I expect that they have it in quite a few places, even if it is not yet available for public use

How so? I thought you said you couldn't test EE the other day?
I have EE SIMs, but none with any credit on them

Looking at the 3 thread it looks like they've been busy and a few happy users are emerging with VoLTE and 800MHz. Yes it's with TinT but reports of 4G< >3G call handover working pretty well.

What I'm still confused as hell about is how VoLTE is activated on any 4G mast when you start a call on a VoLTE mast

Anyone had any problems with valid postcodes on the Coverage Checker since it was updated yesterday?
For example: ST10 4DB (Alton Towers) is invalid apparently, but I know this worked last week. |

Yep on EE VoLTE>3G handover is flawless.

So although you need to be on an activated mast to start a call, once started the data stream just hands over to other masts in the normal way as all is required is a connection to IMS. I think.... |
