Not quite the HD voice i'm used to with Facetime Audio or EE <-> EE. But a lot better than normal nonetheless.

It sounded very similar to using Facetime Audio on a slow connection with occasional stutter.”

I've also noticed this and wondered the same thing myself.

Looks like they are finally doing something about their app.

I think O2 has been working on improving their voice quality - probably because they now have installed more capacity so can get rid of the half-rate codec and go back to standard or even full rate. Not HD-Voice but dramatically better.

EE to 02 HD voice is in testing, so you might get the odd HD call if you're lucky

Good news, wonder if all the operators will finally interoperate with HD Voice - and then have to do it all again for VoLTE !

Pretty sure I had one the other night. EE to Voda has been working well from my experience.

Just got this as well. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/2396697928

Think it's the best I've had for 1800 only.

Noticed for the first time that my Pixel XL has an HD icon on some calls.

I remember Pedro had said that if EE put double sector panels 4G800 they will have 10mhz and speeds will be good. Is that correct

Not quite. In a perfect world, doubling the number of sectors doubles the capacity so you would be looking at equivalent to 10MHz on three sectors capacity wise. However, the maximum speed is still determined by the 5MHz. Also, six sector masts cause other issues, so the benefit is much less than doubling.

thanks for that Pedro so EE will have an issue with the 4G800 only 5mhz with the speeds. If too many customers get on the cell it will be very congested and will be no point of having 3 bars of 4G800 with poor speeds and an not even open a page online

How are we defining congestion?

Yes, if all customers landed on the 800MHz, it would not work for data in many areas. However, they won't as EE has very developed 1800 and 2600MHz 4G and load balancing etc to keep everyone with the best experience possible.

This could well be the week I make the leap to an iPhone. Is there any way I can check when it launches (without a VoLTE device) whether 800 is available in my area, and perhaps even how strong the signal is? Annoyingly my phone can't be locked to 4G only to check this way.

I don't really want to rely on the coverage checker when it's updated as I've found it to be highly optimistic around here previously.

That's not how it'll work though, the network optimises what bands customers are on as the network can tell what your handset can receive in terms of bands and what signal strengths at any point in time.

If your handset says it can see 2600Mhz (2.6Ghz) with a good signal strength you're likely to be near to the cell and that would be the preference depending on loading.

The next thing your handset would prefer depending on loading would be 1800Mhz, then 800Mhz. If absolutely no 4G is available at a decent signal then you're likely to drop down to 3G and then down to 2G.

In order to check EE 800MHz you will need to lock Band20 or rely on the checker when it launches next week.
You will not be able to access it without a VoLTE device.

Has anyone tried EE 4G roaming. Are the speeds as good as Vodafone roaming 4G speeds. I have tried Voda and they are very good with roaming

Pretty much identical, I'd have thought. There's no capping or throttling with either.

The network you're on will make the difference.

4G roaming on Meteor (in Dublin) is just as fast as I've experienced over here, and actually seems a little more stable and reliable than EE4G in any comparable UK city - so no caps or throttling as far as I can tell.

Just thought - I might be able to disconnect the external antenna on the router so it loses 1800 and do a manual network scan to see if 800 is at least available. I don't think I'll be able to connect to it, or see how strong it is, but I might at least be able to see if it's there.

I don't trust the converage checker enough to buy an iPhone based on what it predicts*.

I won't be buying an iPhone at all, because I have got everything on Android and I am used to having everything on Android. Plus, if I get an iPhone 7, I'll have to replace all of my audio equipment to fit in to something that isn't 3.5mm.

I'm hoping that VoLTE on Android will soon improve, given the imminent launch of EE L08. And I hope that it's not just the most expensive and newest phones that get VoLTE as well. Sure, I don't expect the S4 to get it (I don't even know if the S4 has the hardware to support VoLTE!) but hopefully something that isn't bang up to date will get VoLTE.

I can see 800MHz making a big difference to the coverage and usability of data services. Sure, it won't be blazingly fast, due to only 5MHz of bandwidth, but 5-10Mbps will be fine, and if it means the difference between getting 4G and getting 2G (or nothing), then it's definitely a reason to upgrade handsets (so that I can pick up L08).

I believe the oldest handsets to get VoLTE support will be those from 2015.

It would appear that at present the best phone to do testing with is the LG G5. It supports LTE band selection out of the box and it can be flashed with EE or Three firmware.

im from the older era of netmonitor(via MB's LM) and then ftd
same also applies to the g4 too, son and daughter got them.

Hmmmm. New app and 800 release. Is it going to be a bit like the threee app to allow non volte devices...
