have out of bundle charges today after porting my number this morning to EE. Very odd as still have minutes and texts. Is this something to do with the porting as it is new number to EE. Also all calls made on EE Wifi calling

Well in my 50 mile journey home yesterday most of the way there was no signal. Now today the one mast with 4G is back on and the other mast is now back on with 4G. Is this a good sign of updates for 4G 800?? Both are on the top of mountains so cover large areas areas of rural highlands.

You would think so I guess. These are the sort of masts which need doing just to get the reach.

That's the perfect environment for 4G800 to show its worth. Relatively low user density, so they can dial up the power to get strong coverage. People were mentioning with Three that some of their 4G800 masts at full power could be reached from over 20 miles away. With 5Mhz of spectrum, a cell could offer at best speeds of 37.5mbit to a single user.

This should result in a usable service; not the top speeds of the carrier-aggregated areas, but sufficient to browse/download/call/stream music.

Just saw a lot of EE telecom poles will be replaced with new ones in Reading area. Why is that? They all have 4G

I guess it might be to add new frequencies or capacity to the mast?

Don't know for sure though, I just notice that my phone shows 4G and I get super speedy connectivity

It might be replacing the panels on the mast with ones that can do additional frequencies. (ie, to provide more capacity).

Yep, my S7 lost EE VoLTE after the update too.

This is something EE needs to be working on. Hyde Park for Winter Wonderland (tens of thousands of people) and EE was this:

Three didn't work at all.

And Vodafone brought in a site:

I got EE sim only 2 weeks ago and have noticed since my Iphone will stick to 4G1800 for as long as it can even with one bar on screen. That is very good as it does not go down to 3G/2G easly now.

Looks like the 800MHz I could pickup at home has been disabled. Nothing on the Pixel.

may be they are still in a process of provisioning EE accounts and trying to get all these VOLTE pay monthly phones working with the 4G800 ?

Quite possibly.

More testing has revealed 4G 800 is still available. It's still low power though and VoLTE is not working on it.

Likely the site has been locked down ready for activation.

VoLTE works fine over it here. Two sites in Totnes that will do VoLTE over L08.

On wednesday when EE announced the 4G800 switch I was getting it with VOLTE but jst one bar and was coming and going all the time. I think it was showing on my screen next to 4G -115 but do not know what that is. Is it the power?

-115 is the signal strength, I believe, in dBm. I have an app on my phone that shows signal strength for 2g, 3g and 4g (depending on what I'm connected to) and that measures the strength in dBm. The smaller the negative number, the stronger the signal. -115 is quite weak, but still fine, from my experience.

Thanks Aaron very useful info so the 4G800 was on low power and I know which mast it comes from so when they turn the power up 4G800 will cover very big area

With EE estimating that 50% of all of its 4G customers will have 4G Calling phones in September 2017, would the 2G capacity be able to handle the other 50% so the 1800mhz 4G power can be boosted to 2G levels?

To be fair on Three 800MHz, I can get 5Mb+ on a -125dBm signal. Very resilient signal even from a mast 20 miles away. Consistently at that level: barely changes at all as I move throughout my home.

It seems to me you all spend more time fiddling with your phones looking at signal strength -- whether it's 1 bar or 5.etc- 2g 3g 4g 800 VoLTE--- than just making the odd phone call.
What does it matter when you make a call ----- as long as the call is completed who cares how it got there !!!
Regards.

Which is quite surprising, given EE's recent launch of 4G800 (as mentioned on JMComms website). Though they did also say something about 1st December, I wonder if the power will go up then and people will be able to use it on its unrestricted power?
