Three have been saying this on their blogs, they won't support handsets that not bought from them and they need to have three software on them for volte to work, there's a few exclusions like iPhone etc)

Are you aware of any phones that support volte and works that EE don't sell or have ee software? (apart from iPhone or s7 btu)

Let's hope they open it up to all volte capable phones

Google Pixel to name one. They will support the most popular handsets that they don't sell and basically they're supporting then already.

Little hope of supporting Motorola or LG devices as they are very unpopular in comparison to Samsung and Apple devices.

Getting more and more inclined to hit that cancel button on the 3T and stick with my 6P after all. I like a lot of things about it but the main reason I was tempted was the false rumours that it supported all of EE's stuff when it turns out it doesn't support Wifi Calling and there seems to be a big question mark over whether it'd need to be whitelisted (if so, I very much doubt it would be) for 800MHz. Bit of a dealbreaker.

Things I like:
That you get a very customisable version of the OS while remaining locked (to keep Pokemon Go etc happy)
Front fingerprint reader
Dual SIM
Getting rid of that Snapdragon 810 that noticeably throttles down to the small cores after a couple of minutes gaming
Not having part of the screen always taken up by soft keys
So much RAMz
VoLTE support on EE... but the only reason I care about it is for access to 800.

But the things that worry me are mounting at a rapid pace:
Lack of Wifi Calling
Slow updates
Uncertainty over being allowed to connect to 800MHz (depends how you read it - "All devices that support EE's VoLTE" is a very different thing to "All supported VoLTE devices", it's all in where the word "support" is. If it means "supported by EE", there's no chance)
Camera apparently crap (especially in low light) and indeed the photos look awful in side-by-side pics I've seen even next to the Moto G
Speaker nowhere near as good as the 6P
Oneplus's abysmal customer support reputation
Proprietary charging system (if I wanted one of those I'd go to Apple)

Next phone will probably be a previous generation iPhone, tired of the situation with Android, it's a mess.

I just jumped from the 6P to the iPhone 7 and it is much snappier, I don't notice any difference in the screen quality but the camera is much better on the iPhone, battery life is about the same, speakers on the 6P are slightly better but that's a non issue to me. 4G speeds are faster with the iPhone being a Cat 9 and the 6P only a Cat 6, also the iPhone supports way more LTE bands which is useful if I go on holiday.

Oh and I get access to Three's VOLTE which means 800mhz goodness! Sold my 6P for 315 too!

Aaand despite clicking cancel twice the 3T has shipped. For better or worse here it comes...

Now the rationalisation starts. At home I have a signal box. It's actually very rare that I need wifi calling - it's mostly just "nice to have" in case the signal box fails (can't easily get them, and getting a second hand one activated is a stressful process that involves either lying or getting an agent who doesn't care where you bought it). The other situations like our local supermarket (tin box) for those quick "do we need any xyz" calls.. well, maybe 800 will help both of those cases. For everything else there's Hangouts, I guess.

And maybe the camera isn't that bad.

Will admit it'll be nice to have what's going to be the main developer friendly phone now that Google have left them behind.

From testing Three's 800MHz frequency today, I'd forgotten how incredibly robust the signal is. It just goes on and on!

If EE can get this rolled out to a lot of masts, they're going to destroy all the other networks.

They do, it's in EE's best interests to have VoLTE enabled for as many users as possible.

The only thing that will let EE down from now on is capacity. There are parts of London suffering now, and my experience in Hyde Park (at the Winter Wonderland event with an average of 60k visitors per day) was terrible - both for EE and Three. I can't speak for O2 as I didn't have a SIM.

EE now needs to be able to adapt to local demands, build in coverage for indoor locations like airports, underground railway stations (e.g. St Pancras low level or just the covered bits at Victoria, Liverpool Street etc), shopping malls and so on.

800 will do a lot of things, but it won't give the blanket coverage that people want. I really hope EE has plans to do this sooner rather than later, otherwise when it gets to 95% geographic coverage, people will be moaning that they can't use it in the places that got covered first!

The MyEE App finally supports the native resolution of the iPhone 6, and 7, took them long enough.

Of course the app won't allow me past the confirm pin part though, expecting EE to have a competent app was apparently too much faith in their app department.

When will Android be getting the update?

I suspect you'd want it to work first. I can confirm the updated app doesn't work.

Do we know if the S7 Edge, sim free, such as purchased from Carphone allows the use of 4G calling on EE as it does not have EE firmware/software?

I can confirm that 4G calling works on the new Android 7.0 S7 Flat BETA version of Nougat, it wasn't enabled in Marshmallow for some reason.

The S7 then, would appear to be the most flexible phone on the Android side, when wanting to test 800MHz as it supports all the networks. You can even add band selection if you root the thing.

I hope in time the Google Pixel will gain LTE band selection as well. I wonder if it will ever gain support on Three? If any of the recent articles are accurate, it's shaping up to be pretty popular...

However worth noting that others face this problem as well.

The last time I was at Liverpool Street, Vodafone would give me 0.3 Mbps on 4G, and be unusable on 3G. Three would give 1Mbps on 4G and 0.2 Mbps on 3G.

And in Stansted airport Vodafone would give me sub 1Mbps speeds throughout the airport on both 3G and 4G.

Gatwick South and one terminal (I think) at Heathrow has been done with small cells so far. North gets done soon and then all of Heathrow. I assume Luton, London City, Stansted and other airports will be on the list.

I don't know if Vodafone would publish all the locations it has small cells in, or plans to do, but it would be something worth it shouting about as it clearly makes a lot of difference. We all know places that can have fast 1800/2600 4G+ outside and then drop to near useless 3G when you walk in the front door.

Vodafone is useless at Waterloo and Kings Cross.

I've got a discount on my EE account whereby my plan is discounted to £8.99 from £21.99. Is it normal for the bill to show the higher amount?

The app is working for me now. I could only get to the step past the pin code and got a "no signal" error earlier.

So is EE inside the main concourse, but 50-60 outside. This is a perfect example of where coverage for specific venue is required.
