EDIT: AARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! I hate first pages.... why is it always me!!!! Typically, I threw mine away after it had expired as I didn't realise that they sometimes texted new offers through to them. So I'll never know.... |

PS: Has your mast had the fibre connected yet @Devon? You've been a little quiet of late!

EDIT: AARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! I hate first pages.... why is it always me!!!! Are they even going to do these promotions again? They were good while they lasted but I don't want to have to pay a large amount of money for a small amount of data. To get a "double speed" plan, I'll have to spend £18 per month, and £22 per month will get me 4GB. If I need more data than that, I'll have to pay £28 for 8GB...

Nope, though I haven't checked.

Got a text this morning from EE and it said top up 10 quid and get 50 minutes, 50 texts and 1GB of data. Seriously so little for the money. No thanks. No text about receiving an extra 100GB of data lasting if you top up 10.00. I don’t want to top up unless I know for sure there’s an extra 100GB of data ready and waiting. It’s too much of a risk topping up in the hope there’s an extra 100GB of data. At least with virgin mobile when you top up that counts as credit as well as you getting data and texts or minutes and texts rather than the credit immediately being deducted for you to get the data, texts and minutes per EE. |

I am not sure EE has offered that many people a further 100GB and wonder if some people were confused (after having so many of the cards) because the text you get on the second month sounds like they're giving you an extra month free - but it's just the second month.

Somebody who ordered 8 or 9 in the Christmas promotion for use at home was pushing it a bit. How did they manage to do it? |

Putting your address like 10 London Road, then another sim for 10a London Road, then another for 10b London Road.. Etc Would work. Assuming you are the only 10 London Road that is..
Did that with Sky TV straight after I cancelled to get a free SkyHD box and signup free months of Sports, Movies and Broadband.. No issues when the guy came

No, not yet. Still capped at 30 meg. Gotta happen soon now I hope.
How are you managing your data use? Are you very disciplined in only using it for things where you'll benefit from the extra speed, and reverting to ADSL for everything else? Since getting hold of a 4G connection I'm absolutely burning through the data, but I'm struggling to find the will to revert back to <2Mbps ADSL for even the most mundane stuff. |

It's an odd one isn't it? It seems like a long time ago they were digging it in. I guess they're waiting for someone to come and connect it to the cabinet.

Sigh, yes, me too. The latency and speed of 4G means I just leave it on. Costing me a fortune!

I don’t know if they’ll do any more now they’ve been acquired by BT.

At least with virgin mobile when you top up that counts as credit as well as you getting data and texts or minutes and texts rather than the credit immediately being deducted for you to get the data, texts and minutes per EE. I don't know about the Virgin Mobile PAYG situation, but I know that on EE you have to send the STOP PACK text before topping up, as otherwise you lose your credit. Also, on Ell (on PAYG) without getting a Data Pack - why? People who only occasionally need data would prefer a PAYG data rate. Though I'm not keen on Virgin Mobile, because they offered me an "unlimited" data SIM. It's not unlimited at all, it's 3.5GB, followed by a speed cap of 0.384Mbps until your next payment. Seriously why Virgin?! 4G is also absent on Virgin - and if 3G gets refarmed any time soon, Virgin will have to offer 4G! They don't officially support tethering on Virgin either - though I know you can tether because I tethered only yesterday (when my Virgin router wasn't having any of it). I'd switch to EE, but the high prices for low data is holding me back. Three are getting just as expensive - £25 for AYCE data (12GB tethering) and a half decent amount of minutes (600 min). And the Cornerstone duo STILL need to sort out their rural 2G only masts. Quote:

I'll try that myself, since my house number is 15 and I'm the only 15 on my street. How many do you think I'd be able to get away with? Up to (b)? Up to (d)? Any higher? As these 100GB SIMS (when they do their promotion) is the only way of getting a good, solid data allowance on 4G without paying through the nose. Quote:

Even so, 30Mbps is better than what 3G offers (10-20Mbps on my local mast), a lot better than ADSL (2Mbps?) and a heck of a lot better than crappy 2G at a few kilobits per second. |

Do EE allow tethering on PAYG?
I bought a 100mb addon with the £5 free credit.. but it redirects to http://add-on.ee.co.uk/redirect Sometimes tethering does work, but a lot of the time it just re-directs to the EE site. This doesn't only happen when tethering. It also re-directs to the EE site when I use the browser on my phone itself. It clearly isn't a signal problem because if it was, it wouldn't be redirecting to the EE site. |

£10 for 50 mins/50 texts/1GB is their standard data bundle, if I recall. Not worth it at all - especially since 1GB won't last long at all on 4G.
4G (actually 5G,6G,7G or bloody 15G) doesn't actually make you use more data. It simply means your data connection is faster. In the early days of 4G (late 2012 / early 2013) people complaining that 500Mb on a 4G plan was pointless "because you could use that up in 3 minutes" really started to do my head in. Just because you have 4G DOES NOT mean you will use any more data than you used when you only had 3G. |

Just because you have 4G DOES NOT mean you will use any more data than you used when you only had 3G. 1 - Most of the time you are correct. It doesn't directly make you use more data. However what it does do is make you more likely to use more data. Slight but important difference. But think about it. If you just have Edge, you are unlikely to be streaming spotify, youtube or netflix. But on 3G and 4G, those things are possible and do use up a significant amount of data. In a similar way, going from 3G to 4G gives rise to the option of HD (and 4K) video streaming etc etc, which use more data than previously available options. So yeah, not directly using more data as long as you do the same things. But faster speeds generally lead to uses that do use more data. 2 - The above ignores the fact that some applications, mainly video streaming applications, automatically adapt the bitrate of the video to match the available connection speed. This certainly does use more data on a faster connection! |

Let's hope so! Unless there is an issue further up the line somewhere, whereby they can't get the fiber connection along?.
Yeah, don't think it works like that to be honest....

And I'll give my usual response:

This certainly does use more data on a faster connection! The first one doesn't really apply if you were on EE 3G in the first place since you get 10-15 meg anyway. My argument was the comparison of 3G to 4G which I admit I didn't make clear so apologies for that. The second point is also true but only really in the case of 4K. I could stream video pre-4G just as well as i can now. Nothing much has changed to be honest but I will concede that there could be 4K services that would use more data. So yeah, fair point if you are comparing against inferior services but if you are comparing against EE3G, in general there is little change in data usage. |

I concede (partially : )
The first one doesn't really apply if you were on EE 3G in the first place since you get 10-15 meg anyway. 4g removes the need for constantly using Wi-Fi, makes pre-downloading irrelevant, produces reliability of video - basically 4g makes mobile web browsing reliable and pretty much ensures you'll use way more data - 3g was just annoying so you only used it when you had to. |

EE/3 coverage
Hi happy Easter to you all, I have a question and I'm hoping someone might be able to answer it. My nearest EE mast hasn't been upgraded yet, despite all he ones around it appearing to have been, the mast in question is an ex-orange mast and is giving speeds of less than 0.2mb. 3 is non existent and EE is unusable, I'm surprised it hasn't been upgraded yet as it covers the main part of the city centre. The mast location is on Carr House Wakefield and the post code for this is WF1 1LH,
Thanks in advance guys for any info, I can't find anything on Wakefield Planning site using key words like cabinet and antenna. Using EE returns an error saying too many results. Thanks |
