Is anyone else having issues with 4G calling where the 4G signal is low? I only get a bar of 4G in my room although the speeds are in access of 20 Mbps on it. I've had an issue trying to ring out tonight on it however:
I went to make a call and before I even heard the sound indicating that it was ringing, it made the "call ended" tone and that was that. I looked at my screen and the VoLTE icon had gone so it had clearly dropped to 3G. I tried to ring out again but the line was engaged. I waited a few minutes, tried again and the same thing happened. I tried again now it was on 3G again and the same engaged tone./ After waiting a few more minutes, It rung a couple of times before ending the call again. Trying to ring immediately afterwards it gave me the engaged tone. On the other end of the line- my Grandparents- they heard the phone ring (it did ring there end) and they have caller ID so knew it was me. However, when they answered, there was no one there. This happened three times so they ended up calling on the landline. I can only assume that my phone (or maybe it's controlled by the network) decided that it was best to switch to 3G as the signal was quite week, except there was an issue with CSFB so it didn't switch across correctly and the call dropped. Sure enough, when I put the phone (a Saumsung Galaxy S7) into 2G/3G mode, the call connected first time without an issue (I tried again after speaking to my Grandma on the landline). The frustrating thing is, about 10-15 people have been complaining about O2 signal issues in Retford where calls have been dropping or it sounding like the person was underwater. My Mum is on O2 and the rest of us are on EE, so I told her she should have switched to EE. Now I'm getting issues on EE! VoLTE works fine when I'm in Sheffield but I have a strong signal there so I wonder if it's a weaker signal that is causing the issue? |

Had so many problems with VoLTE of late, I'm rather frustrated that on the Pixel XL you cannot turn it off.
Seems to be that I drop to 3G, and the call drops. Handing off fails every time. |

I need to report the problem again but I'll wait until the new year now.

My iPhone 7 has been shocking in the last week or so. Seen way more Edge than normal. 4G noticeably down and 3G worse it seems

I've given up with trying to tinker with the BTU CSC settings on my Samsung S7, forced with using EE firmware just for VoLTE but like others have said it can be a little hit and miss. Even with 2 bars of 4G VoLTE, the call often drops down to 3G instead of holding onto 4G for dear life. Methinks I might flash back to BTU firmware and be patient!

Is there any way to determine whether you're in a CA or 3CA area on the iPhone 7 plus.
I got this earlier in a place I am sure is a CA, maybe 3CA area and it's pretty poor. https://www.screenshottr.us/v/4a987b...2f352c063c.png |

EE was performing ok earlier at Winter Wonderland, London. I think 3CA as LTE discovery wouldn't display the band but I assume from the Cell ID it was 2600mhz.

The 4G to 3G switching issue is still present it seems. I was doing some testing by ringing my Uncle yesterday (he's on O2 so we were also looking at the O2 issue). It seems to glitch during the call set up if it decides to drop from 4G to 3G during call set up. I found that if I called from my room, where the signal is 1 bar, 2 at best, it would drop to 3G and the call would fail after a couple of rings*. If I started the call from my parents room, with a 2-3 bar 4G signal, it would connect fine. I could then walk around upstairs and it would stay on 4G. Heading down the stairs, it switched to 3G with my Uncle hearing a click and second or so interruption, but the call stayed connected. I'm aware of the issue so I can put my phone into 2G/3G mode if required, but those who have no idea how this stuff works are going to get frustrated. Fingers crossed they solve the problem soon. If only 4G Calling wasn't the nightmare it is for the networks! *I had WiFi off to watch it carefully and I actually saw the 3G icon on my phone for the first time ever when it dropped down. It normally goes straight to H and then H+. I wonder why it did that? Presumably it was a result of the glitch causing handover issues? Quote:

Unfortunately not as the field test mode is broken on the iPhone 7/7 Plus.
However Field Test is not very well on iPhone 6s anyway, it was best on the old iPhone 5s. |

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.83...7i13312!8i6656 With the single band panels as well, that mast would more than likely be doing something in addition to the standard 1800MHz/2100MHz 2G/3G/4G.... If someone else could clarify it would be great. |

If it's anything like the one that Pedro C put on his website here: http://pedroc.co.uk/Vodafone_O2%20Mini%20monopole.htm
(first example on the page, small double stacked green cabinet) Then it may well be a power cabinet. Hmm, not seen anything like that before. If the small thin single band panels are still in use, they'd be for either 1800MHz or 2100MHz. As for the larger panel, don't know. I would guess that they are either dual bands or tri bands. With the single band panels as well, that mast would more than likely be doing something in addition to the standard 1800MHz/2100MHz 2G/3G/4G.... If someone else could clarify it would be great. jayteedc |

EE VoLTE in bluewater shopping centre, Kent is an awful experience. Despite showing a strong 4G signal the network is incredibly congested with VoLTE and CS calls failing - VoLTE sounding very muffled and impossible to understand.
o2 isnt usable at all, but Three and Vodafone work great here |

Looks similar to the antennae arrangement of many O2 masts, with a 900Mhz panel and a smaller 2100Mhz panel, however a former Orange site is noted on that road so it's likely to be that. Agree that the small white cabinet in the previous post was a power cabinet, probably in preparation for the addition of Huawei equipment.
jayteedc Thanks for confirming about the power cab. From what I saw on Pedro's website it had to be that. |

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.8176...2!8i6656?hl=en It's not in previous images on Google streetview I believe the bottom cabinet is Huawei 800 RFC2. Stacked on top is APM30H providing DC power and battery backup (you can see the yellow warning sticker if you zoom in closely). Mast is currently only capable of 1800 and 2100, so needs to be replaced with a new monopole carrying three 800/1800/2100 sector panel antennas. Site will receive Huawei 1800 RFC cabinet for 4G around the time the antenna is upgraded. |

Interesting seeing people's thoughts for this one. It's actually very straightforward, being a triple band EE/3 setup with low band, so 800, 1800, 2100. The 800 capability is screaming out on the streetview image; huge Commscope 800 MHAs.
See the second row of the Triple band examples on EE/3/MBNL Masts with schematics I wonder if the 800MHz will be for public use or just the EE ESN contract? |

EE 2G/4G 1800 and MBNL 3G 2100 upgrade, plus 4G 800 for ESN.
