Ah, yeah. I really should have your website in the bookmarks bar!

Still a good deal if you're willing to change plans/port in a year.”

Weighing up moving from a Three £18/mo 600mins, unlimited SMS, AYCE+4GB Tether deal for this. I've never used more than 15GB in a month.

...tempting, it really is..!

Offer ends april 14th. A really good deal considering Unlimited EU minutes and texts are included.”

That's a good deal - my SIM is £19 per month on Virgin and is 3.5GB data @ 3G.

When 4G comes to my area, things will be awesome!

I would be losing my 0845 numbers (certain 08's are included on my Virgin tariff) but I would be getting a better data experience with potentially better coverage as well (when we get the official rollout for 800). Hope that EE's 800 (if it does come on my mast) doesn't take out my TV, as I already complained about CTILs 4G800 wiping out my Freeview!

Afternoon all,

If someone could help me with a reception issue that I have noticed, it would be appreciated.

I have noticed today that there is no 3G or 4G at all in Great Staughton, Cambridgeshire. Nothing comes up on EE (MBNL), and nothing comes up for Orange either. To the east of Gt Staughton, there is an Orange mast that gives a reasonably good signal, and a weak MBNL signal as well. However, no signal in the village itself.

This is not the first time that there has been problems - the last few times when I went that way, there was also no signal. However, looking on EE's coverage checker suggests that there should be an outdoor 3G service available!

Sitefinder also suggests that there should be an Orange 3G mast in that area, between Dillington and Perry (reference CAM0179), but it doesn't appear on the coverage checker - has it been switched off? Will 3G/4G reception improve there?

Any help would be appreciated!

3G coverage on the A1 was rubbish the other week between Roxton & Wyboston.

4G coverage map appears to have been updated today.

It has. More postcodes are working now!

Have you got a postcode for the affected area?

Hi, thanks for asking.

One of the affected postcodes (for the center of Gt Staughton) is PE19 5DA, however, the whole village of Great Staughton, along the B645, has no coverage on 3G or 4G until you leave the village. I haven't tested 2G as I don't intend on using it.

Btw, Roxton to Wyboston should be OK as it says indoor and outdoor on the coverage map. Unless there was a mast outage.

There's a mast down by the A1 near the 'Southoe' writing on Google Maps.

Edit: this one here: https://www.google.com/maps/@52.2618...2!8i6656?hl=en

"We’re working with our partners to get this site fixed. This can typically take 5 – 12 days, but can take longer in some cases. We are working to restore service as quickly as possible, and will keep this page updated with the latest status."

When I see that message, it's always a long time to fix it.

That would explain the outage oh the A1; however, the postcode I gave was quite far away from the A1, and is down a bit of a hill, so I doubt that the 3G would be coming from the A1. In Great Staughton, however, 3G has always been poor/nonexistent.

Looks like that A1 site is micro fed, from what I can see - I doubt it's fiber based, looking at the location of the trees/surroundings! Might take a bit to fix that...

Hopefully, when they do fix it, they'll go the whole way and 4G that mast, fibering it if possible.

At the NEC today for Gadget Show Live (not a great show, but that's another tale). Speeds were a steady 20Meg in the halls, not bad for a busy show day.

I got 50 on Vodafone, but it was Thursday. Still busy though.

That is very good. I think at events like that, Vodafone will benefit from the fact that alot of heavy data using customers are on other networks, 3 and EE, so they don't suffer quite the scale of slowdown. Plus they have a decent chunk of spectrum with which to work.

I went to the bullring and speeds were ok when i got there early in the morning on voda, but it defornately got congested near midday, but was still useable. I'll see as well at GSL tomorrow, should be better than Three there last year, where it was iffy.

Quite possibly. It's always nice to see 4G even indoors (both halls 2 and 3) whereas my Three SIM was occasionally dropping to 3G.

Hi

Which Network does EE use in France and Begium? Whats 500MB of data in terms of Email, Facebook, Twitter and Webpages.

Thanks

They likely have agreements with all or them, but preferred ones would likely be Orange in France and Mobistar in Belgium.

Vodafone must have had either had less users on that mast in that day, or be using 2600MHz.

As you said, it is most likely that data users would be on EE, due to knowing that 3G/4G is available in the vast majority of places on EE - whereas Vodafone are still building their 3G network (as 4G is being rolled out).

I should add that I got the highest speeds IN the halls, and less outside in one of the courtyards. As such, it's possible Vodafone actually put in extra cells within the buildings.

That's probably it, then - they must have added some femtocells (if that's the right phrase?) to boost indoor capacity and coverage. Because that would definitely alleviate pressure from the main outdoor masts.

Yes, that would explain it. EE was consistent inside and out.

EE was rock solid on 4G too. Three's rollout really doesn't seem to be up to much. It's just nearly a year since I left and I think it was the right move. Had to have 4 goes at having a conversation with a mate who is still on 3 today, kept dropping when going between VoLTE and 3G apparently. Trying to jump for 3G at even the slightest sniff!

I was there a few years ago. It had a bit of a cloud hanging over it as it's when the "proper" Gadget Show was axed but the presenters were still tied into it despite being laid off. Wasn't a bad expo though.

Overall the show wasn't something I'll be going back to next year. It was busy but there wasn't really anything good there. Loads of 'Ideal Home Show' style stalls selling junk, and not the sort of gadgets most people expect (like kitchen gadgets).

The fact that the Gadget Show Live has its own Twitter and was barely mentioned on the offiical Gadget Show feed shows how it's not very well linked, and someone I know who works for the GS website didn't even go this year.
