Yesterday VoLTE only worked in Sheffield city centre. Now it's extended to just outside with calls initiating on 4G. It's definitely gone live on some more masts seems to be gradually rolling out.

Right I was totally wrong the cell id's for which ones my phone connects to on 4g and 3g are completely different

The cell id 7980288 is 5.8km away on 4g (Collingtree Park near the M1 omg!)
The cell id 8867478 is 572m away on 3g (Around the corner)

Quite a difference and that explains the shocking speeds on 4g the mast it's connecting to is nowhere local!!

Trying to desperately use the WiFi calling in the hope that this will also give me the settings for VoLTE. Does anyone got an EE branded LG G4 running 20A with WiFi calling available with root access that they could check? Mine was an unbranded handset, so flashed the KDZ and edited /dev/block/mmcblk0p22 to the values below. As given over at XDA but instructions were for 10K, so maybe this is a problem?

Restarted the phone and got the option in the call menu, but no Wifi Calling

http://i.imgur.com/8KptIqL.png"]http...om/8KptIqL.png

In the hidden menu [*#546368#815#] and I get 'not supported' if trying to look at the IMS or switch VoLTE on or off, is this right?

Any help would be much appreciated!

My last experience flashing an unbranded G4 was on lollipop, however if you have done it correctly you should be able to open the IMS/VoLTE settings and edit certain values, so that suggests something is wrong with your configuration.

I wouldn't hold out hope for VoLTE on it yet though, I had been using my G4 with the correct firmware in a VoLTE confirmed live area, but the phone did not connect to any calls over 4G.

Thanks. Google play recognises this phone as "EE LG G4" now and not "LG G4" so something has changed (probably the ROM)

I wonder why your phone isn't using VoLTE yet. Another setting not enabled somewhere?

I don't need it. It'd be nice once 800MHz is more widespread to have access though and not feel like I'm missing out...

It's not the ROM, Google Play just knows what network you're on based on the SIM.

Mine says "Three Mobile LG Nexus 5" - obviously Nexus phones don't have network customised ROMs

I thought that but it also shows "LG G4" from a couple of days ago (last used date) which is odd considering it had an EE SIM in then.

Clearly your N5 is taking it from the SIM though.

I'm quite surprised that I have VoLTE working at home this evening. Went to make a call and suddenly noticed I'm still on 4G. I'm about 5 miles from anywhere important on the Tyne and Wear/County Durham border.

Even worked out how to screenshot it .

On an unrelated note, what do you think of the G4? Looking at replacing my ailing Windows Phone, and that's a candidate.

On an unrelated note, crop walking this afternoon. On top of the hill, LOS to main mast, 6Meg down. Drop down into a bit of a bowl, which looks out onto a mast near a dual carriageway a few miles away, 30Meg. I think I need to build a hose down in that bowl

I like it. It gets good signal strength, have had ~100Mbps data speeds on EE4G, battery life seems pretty good, phone is quick, calls are clear etc.

The stock ROM is a bit meh in my opinion. All the icons etc seem a bit too big. This can be mostly changed with a different launcher etc. I'm rooted (which needs bootloader unlocked so questionable warranty wise) so changed the DPI.

If you can get it cheap enough it seems like a reasonable phone to go for. I have both the plastic and black leather back. The black leather feels much better in the hand.

I wish they could sort out pushing settings like IOS to enable WiFi calling etc without this faff of having to buy the phone from the carrier.

I only seem to get VoLTE if I'm connected to wifi calling first, if I disable wifi I keep VoLTE, if I then enable aeroplane mode and disable it again there's no VoLTE connection.

That was happening in the areas I was finding VoLTE on Tyneside over the last few few weeks, as of a couple of days ago the areas are now fully VoLTE live.

I suspect you might find it changing to proper VoLTE in the near future.

Just had the EE 4G upgrade text again for Stamford. Only one site left to upgrade so with this done the town is now covered.

VoLTE still seems to be working too!

Hi, thanks for the info

In which case, I wouldn't be at all surprised at the 4G speeds - at that distance, your signal strength would be quite low, which wouldn't be helping things - and if it's the only 4G mast in that area, and everyone is trying to connect to it, that would explain the lower speeds. (Chances are, if you was closer to the 4G mast, it'd connect quite nicely at quite fast speeds.)

Though with such a differing signal strength between 3G and 4G, I'd be surprised if your phone didn't automatically lock onto 3G instead, as the connection would be more reliable.

There is another mast around 972m away but it rarely connects to that one but when it does the speed is the same sub 3mbps.

WiFi Calling is now working after someone at XDA kindly posted an older KDZ.

Tested in Airplane mode so definitely working.

I know this is a dumb question but when I manually choose network on my phone I get 2 EE choices. One is EE and the other is EE (3G). I'm guessing one is an old orange mast and the other an MBNL. Which is which?

I've seen two EE's before (obviously), as there are still some Orange masts floating around. However, I haven't ever seen it as EE (3G), I just see it as a second EE.

The EE (3G) one would more than likely be Orange, because the main EE network is 4G capable as well - whereas Orange are just 2G and 3G.

Quick question, sorry if it sounds silly:

I've just ordered the 16gb 12 month sim only for £19.99 - it's currently still showing the discounted price on the website even though the offer ended yesterday - will they honour the discount or are they likely to insist on the full price as it's past the discount period?

No idea you could risk it and give them a call and find out but they could possibly change it to the full price seems you brought it outside of the promotional offer.

Well the order confirmation states £19.99 p.m. so I don't think there'll be a problem, but just curious to know if anyone else has found otherwise.

Time will tell but like you said if your order states 19.99 it should stay at that for the duration of the offer.
