My own take on this is that EE are probably testing to see what happens / how many complaints they get etc etc.
Probably to see what the viability is of letting 800 loose unrestricted.
Would be way easier to roll out.. : )

Seems right, at home and work a wifi call will pass to 4G but I can't start a call on 4G. I could for one day last week at work, then it was turned off again.

Once a call is set up though it will handover to any 4G cell from either VoLTE or WiFi.
I could be totally wrong on that but that's how it seems to me.”

It's weird. I can't go from Wifi Call to 4G mast at home location (call fails instantly), but I've handed over a VoLTE call onto the same mast even though you can't start a VoLTE call on it yet.

Hallelujah!

That Orange mast near Leicester, that I have previously mentioned, now has a data throughput - so Tunein Radio still works quite nicely.

However, there are still issues with Tunein when switching from Orange to MBNL - though that might be more of a Tunein issue than a network issue.

Finally (and over a year after Vodafone) Alton has an EE 4G signal, (though my phone flip flops a lot between 3G and 4G in the town). It's happened (I think) in the last few days

I just wish EE would put 2G, 3G, 4G and 5.3G on all frequencies, especially 200Mhz, on every mast. Would only take a day or 2 and the whole network would be sorted.

For people in the know, should we expect a mass turn on of VoLTE this week like last week?

Who are those people??

Seriously? No idea but it does seem to be rolling out quicker now.
I suspect (although don't hold me to this, it's just what seems to be happening), that they are rolling it out when the 1800 network is dense enough (I.e all sites in an area are 4G1800).
So I would expect that VoLTE will now follow the densification (which appears not to be a word but I like it so it's staying) of the network as they go.
Just my speculation though..

I doubt anyone in the know would leak rollout details anyway

I just wanted a yes or no answer . It seemed like last week Tuesday VoLTE was 'switched on' for many areas in different parts of the UK.

I think it's still 'switched on' for most of those areas, it's just not all masts will allow a VoLTE call to be started on them, I've noticed a couple of masts around where I usually am still allow me to initiate a call over VoLTE, other masts will show me connected to IMS on my iPhone but as soon as I start a call it drops down to 3G like the mast rejected the VoLTE call.

That's why I put switched on with ''. I'm pretty sure every 4G mast is VoLTE now.

Wonder when they're gonna enable it on the s7...

I went through Gypsy Hill station today where I get 800 MHz coverage. When I have VOLTE switched on then it places a VOLTE call successfully. I switched VOLTE off and it still clung to band 20. Made a call, it dropped down to 3G, then hung up and it went straight back to band 20. I have an iPhone 6s Plus.

Always seems to be either 2G or 3G coverage behind it. I don't think 800 is on full power yet, probably either in the range of 2G1800 or 3G2100 at its maximum range.

Hi anyone in the 'know' when a mast in my area is due to be upgraded its still an old orange 2mb backhaul. But there's a huge chunk of the city centre being served by this still so it should have been done by now. Or any ideas when 800 May possibley cover this area until it's upgraded. I assume if anyone is in the 'know' they will private message me for details?

Thanks in advance

No - there's no VoLTE up here whatsoever.

I bet if you started a call on VoLTE it would transfer to your masts and stay on 4G.

If I could be arsed I would dig up a thread where I was slated by learned members and industry 'experts' for having the 'opinion' that 800 and VoLTE would be rolled out at about the same time by EE.

You can only densify a network so much though. If you go too far it will petriollify and that is not a good look.

Ah but what if the network solidifies that would be even worse

Just as an addenda to this - I phoned up to verify this order and not only did I get it at the offer price but the person I spoke to added the multiple line discount too (even though I only have the one line) meaning I've got the 16Gb sim only for £16.49 p.m. Result!

Wish I had gone for the 16GB deal now my 12 months on my £24.99 20GB is up now and never use it all in a month 16GB would easily be enough. I do get unlimited photo messages on mine so suppose there is that.

I walked past an EE shop yesterday and they were advertising the 16GB for £19.99 as a Managers Special - might be worth trying your local shop...
