Few more weeks and it'll be on everywhere...
To be honest it has more advantages for the network than the user.
If you make most of your calls over 3G now you aren't going to notice any difference other Than a faster call setup time to 4G/WC/Landlines.
Call setup to 2G/3G will still be slower.
The vast majority won't even know they are using it.
Having to make sure I don't answer or make a call over WiFi Calling before leaving the house or going out of range of an AP definitely affects me.

WiFi Calling to VoLTE handover is definitely an advantage I'm waiting for.

Just confused why VoLTE has gone from mostly working here to non-existing, it seemed like it was almost ready to be fully live.

I now see EE have changed the EU add on to say its 500mb full speed, then you pay for more.

Last week i am pretty sure it said 100mb full then 400mb slow.....

Saw a My EE app update this morning, it's worrying that they still don't support iPhone 6 screen resolution, the app is scaled and looks ugly, the iPhone 6 has been out almost 2 years, surely it's not that difficult to support properly?

I was hoping the same thing but I do not think they will ever overhaul the app is it looks clunky, old and definitely slow on my 6S Plus.

EE seem great on core network operations (with a few exceptions ), but are dreadful when it comes to software - whether it's device firmware updates, consumer web, or consumer mobile. I don't know whether they outsource this type of development, but I see it as one of their biggest weaknesses.

I think it's some crappy Cordova/Phonegap HTML5 app. It behaves horribly on my S7 too.

Half the time it doesn't make it past the splash screen on my S7

I have to keep swiping down or quit it and go back in numerous times for it to refresh my usage.

According to the 4G Calling help page, it's now available on Microsoft Lumia phones!

I just checked and I'm now getting the 500MB allowance. I thought it was going to start when I got home. Nice one EE. Definitely happy I chose you over Three.

I daresay 1800 and 2600 would kill it, with 800 from the mast on the other side of town

So VoLTE has been turned off in Gloucester but I can now go from Wifi Calling to 4G so they're definitely fiddling around here.

Also having the same issues that others have reported about WiFI Calling not switching on.

Had to post this speed test result, given it was just off Euston Road. Earlier in the day (5pm) it was 78Mbps, so perhaps proof of congestion when workers are a still in town.

https://goo.gl/photos/K3uGn5JnjomEZAuZ9

(for those who don't want to click, it's a speed test result of over 148Mbps, and I topped 150 for a split second - obviously hitting the cap).
2.4 Mbps upload is a bit poor though, what was going on - 3G at my local mast can match that!

148Mbps down was awesome though - I thought it was good when my S4 hit 92Mbps down on the A1 a few days ago

As long as that was the speed of your data and not your car

800 from where? Wakefield house( by trinity walk) or the lattice tower at police HQ?

Er, yeah... haha, slightly forgot that and that is one of the things I want too.
Well, ok... apart from that!! hahaha

Moved my external antenna today after the painters had finished working outside....

From woeful ADSL at less than 2mbps down and 0.5 up, I'm pretty happy!

Hi just had a thought would handing over the 450mhz tetra spectrum to National Rail be more of a wise idea and freeing up the 900mhz that they use for mobile use? Is that possible? Some people mentioned TETRA the other day and its just occured to me. Is their even enough 900mhz from NR for mobile use? Cheers
You mean when the blue lights stop using TETRA in a couple of years* time? - they're using 380-395MHz

Not much else uses the 450-465MHz range for TETRA, there are a couple of users (small private systems) I know of but not much else?

*terms and conditions apply, timescale may be somewhat delayed

I think I got it wrong earlier; having checked Sitefinder it says that Tetra is using the 400MHz band. Unless that is out of date as well?

4G400... that'd be interesting. You'd need all 15MHz of it to get any reasonable data through such a low frequency band... correct me if I'm wrong? It'd certainly give good coverage though!

I think this'd be better than 4G400 or 3G400 - as no devices at all would even support 3G or 4G at 400MHz. However, an awful lot of devices support 3G at 900MHz, and possibly even 4G900. So if (chances are this wouldn't happen, but who knows?) the 400MHz was transferred to NR, and NR's 900 went to EE, then couldn't they do nationwide 3G900 from all of their masts - thus in effect, matching or exceeding 2G1800's coverage? That'd give you your basic calls/data service. Then you could either keep 2100 as 3G (also), and refarm the 25MHz 2G to 4G1800 (or 20MHz, to keep 5MHz 2G for M2M), or refarm the 2100 to 4G, and then have 2G1800, 3G900, 4G1800, 4G2100, 4G2600 and 4G800? Assuming that the amount of 900 that NR have is similar to the amount of 2100 that EE have.

re: Network Rail

I think people are overlooking two factors - cost, and compatibility.

Rebanding Network Rail's GSM-R network is going to be hilariously expensive. It'd be cheaper and quicker to subsidise a 99% land mass 2600MHz network! So many cell sites would have to be modified, as would every single train in GB

One of the reasons why Network Rail went to GSM-R was to achieve full compatibility with foreign trains. Eurostar won't need several different radios and signalling systems for each country anymore, it will have one. If DB or anyone else decides to run trains in GB, they can do it more easily and efficiently. So you'd have to either install a special GB radio system, or get the whole of Europe to move over too.

Not happening
