I heard that your mast had been restricted - presumably because your mast is still on micro backhaul, and that if full speed was given, the micro wouldn't be able to cope... Particularly if it micro's another mast, or if the micro is coming off another micro mast.

Should be getting fiber one day?

MIP mast. North Huish, South Devon. 111Mbps.
4G1800 no CA (obviously as there's no 2600 in fields with sheep..... yet...)

It's pretty impressive for in the middle of a city center where there are a lot more users out there with 4G phones etc!

Your speed test is truly amazing though! I'd never be able to get that, even on the same mast, because the S4 just supports 100Mbps... which is still fast enough for me!

Though, if I always had 100Mbps speeds available, how long would my 16GB allowance last?

Pretty impressive!

As an aside, is that using the rootmetrics app, or other? I know it's not speedtest.net, which I always use.

Fastest I have ever had on 3G is 30.45Mbps but I stupidly didn't get the screenshot.
Top of Haldon hill near Exeter.”

What is it about the South West, eh? I got my fastest 3G result when I was staying at a bizarre motel-like hotel thing next to the main road from Exeter towards Torquay. It was the weirdest place, and I was shocked to see speeds of about 30 down about three years ago! I was only down there for a day to see a client, and I've never experienced 3G like it since....

Rootmetrics app

It doesn't count towards your data allowance on EE (at the moment anyway, if it ever does I'm gonna be shocked when i look at my data usage lol)

However in my experience it's not as accurate as speedtest.net; I usually get faster speeds on speedtest.net, however on O2 my fastest result was actually on Rootmetrics rather than speedtest.net, so it can vary, but yeah on the whole I'd say speedtest.net is better - I only use Rootmetrics cause I don't wanna use my data - I've only got 4GB! I'm gonna hopefully get 10 or 20GB for my next contract though.

Update time!

I've just tested the EE coverage along the A11 towards Thetford, which is/has always been a weak spot for EE 3G2100. Last year the signal was very unreliable. Nowadays things seem better.

However, there is still one serious weak spot in the forest area. Surprisingly, it said no signal where there was a nearby mast with new panels!

Something that I'd like Bookey UK to check (if it's possible, also if you'd prefer, PM me the answer) : is o e of the masts on the A11 between the A14/Mildenhall roundabout, and Thetford, now 2g/4g only? As I quickly flicked my phone to lte mode and a 4g signal was present.
Also if it is the case that the mast is 2g4g, will 3g ever be added?

Edit, other side of Thetford signal is weak too.

Edit 2: if anyone knows that area, or wants to go on Google Maps to find it (I can't as on mobile), it's the mast closest to the monument that is by the road side, on the A11.

I think when they add 4G to a mast, it takes a bit longer for 3G to be added because they have to wait for MBNL. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, its a problem with EE plan back end - it means that agents are unable to see 'Eurodata' as an option to add. Therefore there default response is usually 'It can not be added to your plan' - I was even put through to supervisors, management & the cancelations team who also advised it was not applicable on the EE Extra sim only plans...

James advised on the EE fourm's that the issue was to be fixed by the end of April 2016, after speaking with the EE product team I believe. Looks like the majority of EE Extra Sim only plans are now working okay with Euro Data. However must still be some exceptions out there, yourself for example.

A real nightmare to be honest. EE's back end systems, are due a upgrade soon... fingers crossed, I know its been a pitfall since the Orange / T-Mobile merger - due to lack of investment.

Still I am getting a EE 16GB Extra plan for £13 a month...so cant complain

I know the exact mast you are talking about, its this one here: https://goo.gl/maps/LuzMEPvft6Q2 and has only got EE 2G (EDGE) & 4G, No sign of 3G for either EE or 3 customers. Speeds are almost always above 100mbps when testing.

Thetford Forest is hard to cover for the reason which is clear from the name.

Don't have all 18,500 site memorised, i'll take a look next week and see what is noted for 3G add.

This might cause a stir but 4G is the most important layer, 2G and 3G are legacy networks and 2G has more life left in it than 3G.

What???

But 3G is the holy grail! It even makes you tea when you're thirsty! This is just so cruel!

Everyone knows that 3G is the best!

The road linking Thetford and Brandon (B1107) is still a known not-spot area for all uk networks, where all calls WILL drop.

There is an intermediate ex Orange 2G only mast here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.35...7i13312!8i6656
which when upgraded to 3G/4G will help give better data coverage and fill the hole between Barton Mills and the monument site. Bit of 800Mhz 4G would be ideal in this area.

When I went to Snetterton last year the 3G coverage seemed ok around Center Parcs but fades away towards the by-pass junction. There was an old T-Mobile site here but it looks like it's been de-commissioned https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.39...7i13312!8i6656

4G in Thetford now but still abysmal signal along the Brettenham Heath stretch of the A11.

4G arrived at Snetterton now so hopefully be able to use data at the BTCC this year

Looks like its still live, on the service status map as having been fixed recently. Another data network hole would be filled here then.

Interesting! Not been past this ex Orange site but it did used to give good EDGE data speeds! so it's 3G/4G now too?

Not that I know of. The 4G coverage map is weeks out of date again.

The area has a lot of 2G only ex Orange filler sites so hopefully 4G will arrive at these soon.

Hi guys. Does anyone know if the Galaxy S7 edge has 4g calling yet as I haven't had the pleasure yet. It could be that I'm not in an active area yet. Thanks

Well, got myself a 6P. The 5X is hitting eBay.

It's like night and day (with exactly the same setup restored)
It's just the really uncomfortable little pauses that drive me absolutely do lally - I mean, if you actually sit the two phones beside each other they do things like launching apps at very similar speeds (6P a bit faster), although complex web pages load way quicker on the 6P. But there is often a little pause on the 5X that really really bugs me - like sometimes from places like the camera you'll push the home button and it'll seem to go "uh.. ok... hang on, let me swap out some memory..." where the 6P just jumps to the home screen. It might not bother some people but I hate it - I think it's the sense of "hang on, did my tap register?" and you find yourself tapping again just as it opens. I'm probably just spoiled from having flagships, but there we go.

Maybe the 6P will bog down after a few days too, but so far so good.
The display is gorgeous, though I'm glad it has a plain old sRGB mode in the developer settings for when you want to know how a photo really turned out.

Will keep an eye on Wifi Calling and see if that's any better!
