This thread and the 3g ditching debate is reminding me of the family guy episode with the chicken fight...

The iPhone 5 had 4G!
I think at the time, my opinion on Apple's ability to move with the times (screen sizes) was still suffering

They still sell the 5S, which...... does have LTE, I didn't read their spec page properly. Never mind then I thought the 6 was the first, but hadn't been following Apple phones during the 5 era.
I'm glad it wasn't me going mad, I even checked Apple to double check if they were still selling the 4s.

I highly doubt that they'd still be selling the 4S, now that the 5/5C, 5S, 6 and now 6S have been released.

Well yeah, we know that, the other guy had said they still sell a 3G iPhone, the 4s was the last 3G iPhone but if you read the rest of the posts after mine you will see he posted again and said he made a mistake as he thought the 5s was 3G only.

Looks like it might be easier for networks to install masts in rural areas:

4S was a great little phone. I loved mine. Wonder why I got rid of it. Oh yeah, 3/EE can't do voice and VO2 can't do data. That phone was a gem in it's time. One day, one of the networks will offer a voice service as good as VO2 and also a data network as good as EE. One day. Currently, they all fail.

That can only be seen as good news as it will fill in the coverage gaps that the networks have.

I wonder if EE/Three will finally be able to install a new mast at both Denny Abbey (Cambs) and Eye (Peterborough)? As both of those locations urgently need EE/Three masts

There's a new EE/3 mast being installed near me, how long do they usually take before they go live?

A brand new EE mast was installed near me back in July. It's even shown up on Google Streetview. The fibre was laid before the mast was put up. But, after 8 months, it's still not live.

Doesn't matter if your phone supports it if your masts don't anyway...

iPhone 6 and no VoLTE here.

You sure about that? EE has one of the lowest Dropped Call rates in the world....

Is T-Mobile in the US the same company as EE?

If yes why do they seem to have more advanced tech over there?

e.g icloud based Wifi calling.

No, EE is now owned by BT.

T-Mobile USA is owned by T-Mobile International, who's parent company is Deutsche Telekom. Deutsche Telekom did own 50% of EE until BT bought it.

However, the technologies used by phone companies normally reflects the speed of advancements in that country rather than how advanced that company is in other markets.

T-Mobile US needs VoLTE/WiFi calling etc much more desperately than other networks, in the US or abroad, because until a couple of years ago their coverage was woeful. Their main way of improving this is to use 700MHz for LTE in less densely populated areas (cheaper to deploy), which means that they need VoLTE as there isn't likely to be existing 2G/3G coverage in the same areas. WiFi calling helps in general.

T-Mobile US has also aggressively issued signal boosters to customers who need them

I was just being rudely pedantic, I am the one who should apologise: I'm sorry

I hated it. Glass back? What was that all about? Too thick, no 4G. rubbish!!!!
Good things come to those who wait as Synthetic says.
You just might have to wait another year, that's all.
It's going to be so awesome, everyone else is going to melt......
Take EE's 2G and now imagine that as 4G1800 but a little better on coverage.
Now add in some 4G800 on a quarter of masts (Devon will get more than it's fair share due to the geography).
Hey presto! Mental network!!!

Don't Deutsche Telekom now part own BT as part of that deal?

Yes. I don't know the percentage, but IIRC it was enough to allow DTAG to have one of its people on BT's board
