Correct. However EE's 2G voice is probably the best for quality in the UK although you won't get the rather excellent background noise cancellation.

On EE you need to make sure that if your phone isn't going to get VoLTE via an upgrade in software, when you upgrade you get an EE VoLTE device.

Your problem should then go away mostly once we have the 800 launched and completely once the 4G1800 is cranked up.

Main advantage of having a VoLTE device is not the VoLTE itself but the access to 4G800.
feww issue must be fixed now, all calls fall back to H

..and even if you do get a device EE claim will support 4G calling the the future, don't get too hopeful. No sign of the LG G5 being upgraded yet! Grumble....

Then you have a phone that is guaranteed to work with 4G calling

Certainly unhappy since the update - lost it again yesterday. However I have noticed the signal strength indicator is much better than before - 2 or 3 bars of 4G where previously it was "No Service" and five bars where I only had one before. Wonder if it's got 800 access and doesn't bother with WiFi Calling if there is plenty of signal from the main network.
So it's now behaving itself again 52 hours since a reboot and still on EE WiFi Calling, battery life is more variable - still worse than before the update, but it randomly nosedives :s

Woohoo! Must have just been a problem with the CSFB at your local mast for a while.

I do know that calls over 3G/H are much clearer than calls over 2G/G/E, from my experience. I twigged even during a call once that something wasn't right (this was in LTE/GSM auto mode) - then checked and it was on 2G calling

Anyway, I must give EE thanks for putting my mast on 4G (even single speed 4G). Had to do an upload earlier on today of about 1.2GB and the only feasible option was through my 16GB EE SIM. Got it done in about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad (at about 10Mbps average?). On 3G it would have been about 2.5Mbps, and on Virgin Media (30Mbps package) it would have started off at 2Mbps, then dropped to 1Mbps at 750MB, then to 0.75Mbps at 1GB! Ouch

Because you always get the latest network features first. That is until Android get some sort of carrier profile thing properly sorted.

But they do. Samsung, Sony and Nexus phones all support it now, as Three has shown.

But this is the EE thread, and EE are useless at pushing updates (carrier or otherwise) to Android phones, even the flagships.

The iPhone is the only device worth having that seems to be able to access network features first and in full on EE within any reasonable timeframe.

...and this coming from someone who's never had an iPhone...

...but will definitely be getting his first when the time comes to replace my current phone...

When Apple release an iPhone that is worth the extra again, I'll happily buy one. I've been waiting three years for something radically better from Apple.

There was a time when Android was ahead of the game. Sadly Google and the OEMs have been resting on their laurels and Apple have caught up in many respects. Heads should roll at Google for allowing this to happen. If you want proper support buy an iPhone. Even Google who did a support time frame for Nexus devices is nothing short of a half assed job.

Map updated again (some zoom levels broken). More 4G in my area around Oundle, Kings Cliffe and Uppingham.

Some 2G only ex orange sites in Norfolk have 4G now so good to see progress on these being made.

Just been looking at the Yorkshire Dales areas, zoom level broken for several locations. I did a specific search for Halton Gill where I will going soon, the report says it has reasonable coverage for 4g 3g 2g, but on the map it does not show coverage for any of these? A couple of years ago I was there and there was zero EE coverage in the valley, so hoping the report is correct and the map is wrong.. .

Been working fine for a couple months on my G5. It's not an EE sold model but I put the EE firmware on there from XDA.

And it converted it to an EE device did it? On the G4 you have to do all sorts of rooting and modding.

To be fair, EE are being pretty good at pushing the monthly security updates to the S7 Edge at the moment. Granted it isn't every month and isn't quite what you'd get from a nexus. But certainly seems much butter than what their support for the S6 ever was. See what happens with Samsung and EE with Nougat over the next few months!

Much improved data network at Snetterton on EE/BT Mobile albeit via 4G.

Speed test on my BT SIM on 4G maxed out at 30Mbps Down 15Mbps Up so most likely higher speeds with a double speed EE SIM.

3G however was useless, 0.66Mbps Down 0.04Mbps Up with message banners popping up with restricted access. Phone calls were fine though.

I frequently hit 100Mbps D/L on EE at this site when driving past. There is good Vodafone & O2 4G here now too.

Don't know if this has been covered but since last week my unlocked Samsung S5 has been using 800MHz 4G in my local town for data. It's clear that only two masts in the town have 800 but my phone will stay on Band 20 until it looses signal, then drops back to Band 3 or 17.

Phone drops down to 3G if I try to make a call.

I didn't think non approved devices would be able to access 800 data?

Assuming EE can control access to sites independently, perhaps some 800 will be open for all where there's ample 2G and 3G coverage around, and restricted to VoLTE users wherever it would extend beyond.

EE will still have a lot of 2G coverage, so maybe 800 can be used quite widely even for non-VoLTE users. At least 2G coverage is quite predictable compared to 3G.

(Typo: meant Band 7 above not 17)

Yes, the two masts that are allowing 800 are the only two that also have 2600 active.

A few months ago the main mast allowed 800 for about a minute if the phone was restarted on that cell, before it chucked the phone off to band 3.

That ended for a time and I was unable to get 800 at all. Now the second site is allowing 800, my phone seems to prefer it when on those two cells over band 3 & 7.

I have found that on certain sites (Totnes is one example where there are also 2 800 masts) my iPhone will get stuck on band 20 for quite a while. Eventually it does go back to Band 3.
Happens mostly if you toggle airplane mode. Doesn't do it everywhere though.
