Well, no sign of 800MHz in the Sodbury/Yate area today.....and so nothing to ease the appalling EE coverage around Rangeworthy.

Depends on the area.

In most areas it currently appears to be working on any phone but as soon as the VoLTE restriction is in place and power goes up (which I suspect isn't too far off now given full UK VoLTE and more and more 800 masts popping up) only certain 'EE approved' devices will be able to connect.

Have just locked my G5 on to EE 800. Its a genetic handset so not able to make calls, but the data worked ok. Thats in Haverhill.

Hmmmm interesting. Not working for me in Colchester on an EE branded G5. Either its blocked here as its not currently enabled for VOLTE or the signal is too weak for it to connect.

So for VoLTE calls you must be using EE firmware right?

VoLTE isn't live on 800MHz I don't think.

Is there such thing is unlimited 4G on a mobile package these days? If so, which is the best company to get a deal with unlimited 4G?

It's live on all layers (on EE)

You won't have much luck haggling as a new customer, they generally only haggle with existing customers...

So what are you expecting? 16GB data for £19.99 as well as a £90 Amazon voucher is a pretty good deal at the moment for new customers.

This is a great deal for EE.

I think he was talking about Three though...? Anyway this is off topic (there's a separate thread for Three) so let's get back on topic.

How comes people are getting Amazon vouchers as well? Is this for the new deal on the 16GB SIM?

I took out the previous £20 for 16GB offer (about 3 months ago?) and there was no mention whatsoever of an Amazon voucher - though I wasn't grumbling, since it was much better value than the 3.5GB for £19 Virgin Mobile package that I was on before (which I have heard has gone up to £21 for the 3.5GB).

It's an MSE offer until the 9th Aug,

You could get £88 cashback from Quidco as well, or get TCB to match.

You could try doing both cashback and the amazon voucher but not worth the risk imho.

Can anyone give me any examples of planning permission/schematics that show EE 800 as well as H3G 800. Every single one I view, the new masts will only be transmitting 800mhz for 3 and not EE. Why not EE at these places too?

Birmingham City 2015/03325/PA has EE and 3 800MHz.

16/00704/PLF For East Riding has EE GL18, U21, and L08 but only U21 for Three despite the panels being capable and there being enough floor space for a Pagona/Komodo for Three LTE.

Any idea what these approved phones will be and will they have to have an EE firmware or supplied by them.

Where I live in North Yorkshire there is a weak 4g signal though the other day was suddenly getting a strong signal on a moto x play with payg ee sim in. Then disappeared next day. No idea if it was 800mhz though.

Currently trying EE with a view to switching to them from Vodafone but generally go sim only and buy my own unlocked phone.

Sim free iPhone's will definitely work
In theory all Marshmallow and above Androids (VoLTE compatible obviously) should be able to work but it depends on the manufacturer and EE to update the devices to add the correct carrier settings. It's just a patience game to see which phones will be added for support.

All bets are off when it comes to Android updates. Only way to get an almost guaranteed update is to go with Apple I'm afraid. Android is just awful with such things and that includes the Nexus series too.

Those of us with Nexus 5s are a bit miffed. The hardware does VoLTE, but Google never seemed interested in doing their bit in the software
