For discussion of tonight's EastEnders, 8:00PM.

____Episode Summary______________________________________________________

Pauline’s annoyed when Sonia and Martin head for the chippy after she has
prepared lunch. Sonia realises that Pauline’s annoyance doesn’t stem from
the lunch arrangements. Pauline tells them that she’s upset because they
didn’t tell her they saw her granddaughter. Martin tries to talk to Pauline
but Sonia is unable to keep out of the discussion and it turns into a
personal argument…

Minty and Garry decide not to meet Alfie for a drink as planned, as they
feel that Alfie will crow about his success at speed-dating. They decide
to lock themselves in the Arches for a slim-line lunch and follow the
advice given in the book How To Meet Your Mate.

Elsewhere, Alfie and Little Mo both find it hard to hide their delight
when they realise that neither of them has a new partner.
he spots a car…

Pauline is making my blood pressure rise. Someone say something that will make me see her point of view.

It's ok, blood pressure has returned to normal thanks to Stacey and Ruby. I was transfixed watching Stacey with the ketchup.

I don't usually post through episodes but what's with these camera angles and the camera panning across things and panning up and down? I haven't noticed them using this many before. Maybe a new director?

What a 'sodding' wonderful episode of Eastenders. I really enjoyed it, even Wendy Richards was on top form as the gran with no say and Sonia was great.

Lovely episode, I even enjoyed Alfie and Mo, oddly (kind of)

But great stuff from Pauline, Sonia and Martin. More of this please. The writer of this episode was much better than the writer everyone whines on about as benig great.

Top marks.

Maybe it was just me but I just thought there was a lot of panning camera and lots of cuts to different angles - more than normal anyway.

Me neither but if that episode was anything to go by, EE should keep her and give her a permanent job. For the first time in ages I really enjoyed something in EE. The Sonia/Pauline scenes were excellent. Natalie Cassidy as good as ever when given the chance. Mo and Alfie/Garry and Minty I could have done without but the Sonia/Pauline scenes were way better than I thought this storyline would be.

When it was announced Jessie Wallace might leave, yesterday's Daily Mirror had their TV editor comment and she said something about the recent bad storylines and "Thank God for Dot, Pat and Sonia". How true. What a difference it made when there was a character we really like at the centre.

Pop Princess - they've been using loads of fancy camera angles lately; I assumed that they're trying to take every aspect of the show in a new direction.

I enjoyed the bits with Pauline and Sonia an awful lot - the dialogue was spot on, the way they delved into new aspects of Pauline's character was wonderful, and for once I felt sorry for the old cow . I didn't like the Mo/Alfie bits, or Gary and Minty, or Stacey and Ruby, but the main thrust of the episode far outweighs those rubbish bits. A vast improvement on the way it has been, and I just hope they can maintain this quality in the future.

Actually the camera angles and panning were a trade mark of John Yorke's last reign, so it looks like it's coming back now.

Very eastenders tonight, Sonia saying at the start "Do you know what its like living in a house where you cant even move the fruit bowl without an atmosphere" and then towards the end jerking the fruit bowls position.

Reminded me of old Eastenders. Compare this to the stupid fancy dress.

Agree Polly. A fantastic episode from a writer I havent heard of before. Great acting especially from Natalie and Wendy. I even loved the camera angles. The whole format of the episode reminded me of early Eastenders. Very impressed.

Yep - it definitely had a feeling of being real, somehow. Like I said in my previous post, the good bits made up for the bad, and that is a mark of quality that the EE of old used to have in spades.
