Why does BT's Total Entertainment Packages have a £20 Engineer installation charge, whereas the Entertainment Plus packages don't seem to have this charge.

The difference that I can see between the packages are the additional channels (some of which are iHD versions of those available with the Entertainment plus packages)

Quite simply, because if you're paying for a higher TV subscription, BT will waive the installation charge as a "perk".

That - I would agree with, BUT its the Higher TV subscription package (Total Entertainment - 49 premium channels) that has the £20 engineer installation fee, whereas the (Entertainment PLus - 29 premium channels) does not ?

I see. I misread your post, I thought you were referring to the package beneath Entertainment Plus, not the one that features BT Sport UHD.

Presumably BT would say receiving UHD requires a different type of engineer installation, although that's debatable at best. BT will know whether you can receive UHD/Total Entertainment before you've even completed the signup process, and setting up the YouView box would be no more difficult than the ones they provide for the "lesser" subscriptions. That said, you're correct in thinking its a pretty odd deal.

Contact BT via Live Chat, they said that was the offers....

they believe the Engineer installation is required on all packages and altough it's free on the Entertainment Plus packages, its a reduced charge of £20 (from £44) on the Total Entertainment packages.

The only different in the boxes, is that the Total packages boxes are 1 TB, wheras the plus packages is 500GB.

So guess the £20 is to subsidise the cost of the 'larger' box.
