Question for cat fosterers.

I have two cats and am thinking of taking in foster cats until they find a new home or looking after a cat temporarily whilst, for example, it's owner is in hospital.

For those with existing cats that have done this, how did they deal with other cats repeatedly coming onto their territory? Did it cause behavioural problems eg litter tray issues? Did they eventually just get used to other cats coming and going all the time?

Did the existing cats (even if they didn't particularly get along themselves) gang up on the newcomer?

Any info is appreciated

All I know is that I was interested in it myself and so contacted Cats Protection, they asked if I had a spare room as I had cats of my own, I said no spare room so I was not able to foster.

Jackson Galaxy often features how to introduce cats. First off they need to be in seperate rooms so they know there are other cats but don't meet. Scent swapping is done then. Later the cats are fed in sight of each other and finally actually introduced.
Of course some cats aren't bothered, but you can't know that beforehand.

you would not be allowed to foster cats as you have a male kept as a tom cat...that's a big no no in cat rescue.

Luckily, I do have a spare room, so that isn't a problem. What other conditions did they lay down? If I do decide to go ahead, I want to try and get everything sorted before the visit.

If I decide to go ahead, I'll certainly return to this thread and keep everyone informed

No other conditions were layed down as I was ineligible. Why not call all rescue centres local to you and volunteer with them.

I'm sorry you are not my neighbour as I live alone with 3 cats and hope all remains well, but I do worry if something happened to me as I've no one to call on to see about them if I was away.

I'm sorry to hear that this is causing you to worry. I would certainly help you if I were your neighbour
