Just a wee fix in this release to "disable Graphite font shaping library".

v38.7.2 is now available, not sure what the difference is over the previous version as the release notes still say "Disabled Graphite font shaping library".

Strange, I just tried to update to it and the Check for Updates button in About said that I was up to date with 38.7.2 despite what it says in the release notes.

That's a beta release.......Pointless posting that they have been released as people on here are on the general releases, 38.7.2 at the moment.

It's not a beta release, it's the final.

Then why haven't we been upgraded to it?

My apologies. It doesn't seem to have been updating, either automatically or when invoking 'about'. No idea why???
Downloaded 45.00 with no problems from Mozilla ( https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/ )

I had to do the same - wouldn't update direct from the "check for updates" so had to use the download link provided above.

Not keen on the "Correspondents" title (what was wrong with "From" and "To"?) nor the left/right arrow showing which way the message was sent/received - looks too much like a "replied" or "forwarded" indicator for my liking.

It does seem a pointless change....Most cosmetic ones are....You won't notice it after a couple of days....

I have been on the Mozilla forum here and it seems it is not as simple as that, though I don't really understand the explanation given in the 9th post (though they are not actually numbered).

So when is it on the Release Channel and when isn't it?

Can anyone translate?

I think this ( a new version may be available on the web site before its available as an automated upgrade, or the release notes are available. Its a known problem.) is the relevant piece. Which seems to be the case at the moment.
the link I gave was direct to their website, so they are giving it as a new download to anyone visiting. Which, rightly or wrongly, I'm guessing is the final release.

You may be right. However, this part seems to say otherwise, particularly with the use of the word "might". I still don't understand what they are are trying to say.
If a new version is only available on http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/ or http://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/thunderbird/ then its not formally released, it is a potential release build that might be released "as is" after more testing.

They - Mozilla - aren't trying to say anything. It's just a poster on the forum which is unofficial.
('Quote' mozillaZine is an independent Mozilla community and advocacy site. We're not affiliated or endorsed by the Mozilla Corporation but we love them just the same. Unquote')
So they are not entirely sure themselves.
Anyway...............From the horses mouth.....FireFox Releases. So, 45.0.2 is the latest full release, which is what we should have................

Except this is the Thunderbird thread, so it's only v45.0

What you quoted just means that if the files are up on the mirrors but it hasn't been announced on the website then it's not yet, and may never be, official.

The Thunderbird website is pointing to v45 as the release, so it's the current official release.

As for why v45 hasn't appeared in the Thunderbird update notification i'm not entirely sure. Thunderbird kind-of-but-not-quite follows the Firefox ESR release format (which is why it jumped from v38.x to v45) and usually the older branch of Firefox ESR gets one more release after the new one has released (so a Firefox 38.8-esr should drop at the same time as 45.1-esr) to give organisations time to move over.

It may be that the internal Thunderbird update mechanism is set up to do the same thing.

Doh! I was on another forum discussing FF and a couple of beers didn't help.
This is what I should have linked to Thunderbird Releases
Anyway, I think we sorted it eventually, perhaps, maybe......

You can uncheck the 'Correspondents' column and return the 'From' column in the choices drop down....The only use for the new column would be in a Conversation view..Under normal viewing, it's pointless.

My turn to go Doh! I did look for something like that in right-click menu but for some reason didn't see it. Sorted now, ta.

Does this mean we're going to see regular six-weekly releases of Thunderbird to keep the release numbers in line with Firefox?

I don't think so. Mozilla are changing there release model. At present they are using a 6 week fixed cycle (known as the train method), they are moving to a 6 to 8 week cycle, giving them a bit more flexability....
