Now the cheap Waitrose price has finished on this addictive beverage can anyone say which of the commonly available lemon and lime cordials would most closely approximate the taste of the aforementioned JW? I suppose I could work my way through them until I hit paydirt but if anyone here could shortcut that I would be most grateful.

You can buy it from places other than Waitrose, how cheap was it when on offer?

Thanks, but £1 is my limit - I drink the stuff too quickly to justify more than that. Hoping I can get some combo of cordial and Evian to match the JW but ending up costing @40-50p a litre. There's just something about the taste of the JW though, that makes you want more - Perhaps they put crack in it?!

Probably best just making your own then. According to the bottle there's only 4 ingredients.

I wouldn't drink it, but it has less sugar than Ribena, apple juice, coke, Tropicana, and massively less than grape juice.

Perhaps the fact that the OP refuses to buy it at £1.50, let alone £2.30 is proof that Jamie Oliver was right in his quest to see sugar taxes imposed on people?

Came looking for some advice, not judgement but then I remembered this is DS - It's what you do!

Is this the same Jamie Oliver that serves soft drinks and juices in his overpriced restaurants? Thought so....

...

I don't give a toss about sugar aka "the next new tax", simply not willing to pay over £2 for a bottle of, essentially, lemon and lime. And I have no Asda nearby.

Sugar content of JW is 8%.

Back to the original question - Any close matches anybody knows of from the cordials out there?

They don't look very nice. Flavoured waters often have nasty chemicals in them and don't taste very nice.

Plus it has Stevia which the native americans use as a contraceptive.

Stevia is a natural sweetener and works very well, it is common in many products - it's an urban myth about native Americans using it as a contraceptive.

I've just been into Waitrose and the 1l bottle is £1.15 with 20% off if you have it as a My Offer, so that's 92p.

I've just been into Waitrose and it is £1.15 per 1l bottle and you can get another 20% off with MyOffers, so that's 92p.

Excellent! Their last offer ended on the 15th and checking on the 16th there was no offer showing so, like a junkie without a fix, I panicked!!

92p a bottle is more than acceptable - I can fill a bath with it at that price.

Studies have shown the contraceptive part is true.

I wasn't judging you. I don't buy drinks with artificial sweeteners. The topical point I made was that your thread is proof that charging extra for something does effectively reduce its consumption.

You won't buy a certain drink because of cost; you'll only buy it if it's cheap. Just like many people will not pay extra for a sugar version of a soft drink if they can buy it cheaper with aspartame instead.

Charging a LOT extra does, obviously. Regular price is £2.30 in Waitrose for 1L of lemon and lime. That's just silly money for what it is, no matter how nice.

Just adding a few pence on top of those two litre bottles of coke etc isn't going to make any difference and if it does it'll just be in a small number of people shifting down to a slightly cheaper brand or supermarket own brands which are already less than half the price of the brands. It's a complete waste of time as has been demonstrated everywhere else it's been tried.

This stuff is lovely but it's a shame it has added sugar in it. I won't drink something regularly with added sugar in it.
