She's done 3 West End plays, a couples of films, 2 series of Mr Selfridge and played Maria in Sound of Music Live on ITV at Christmas. Considering she was going to use the money from Strictly to train for another career, it worked out pretty well for her
I'd forgotten she said that!

Fantastic. Can't believe I missed The Sound of Music live was on! Watched the Julie Andrews film with my daughter over Christmas, she loves it as much as me now. Have just found a youtube clip of Kara singing 'The Hills are Alive' and she's really good!

The Actors who won Jill, Tom and Kara have all done really well on stage and TV. If I was an agent of a young actor about or thinking about leaving a soap this year Strictly is a great shop window.

But l would say that Ricky Whittle has done even better being in American shows like the 100 and now the lead in American Gods
As it has been for Georgia, I admit I didn't realise she sang as well as soap acting. Did she go to stage school? I just presumed she hadn't as she didn't seem to have had much dance training prior to Strictly.

Georgia attended regular schools she may have done some performing acts qualification but she did not go to Italia Conti or Sylvia Young's or a Stage School. No idea if that includes singing. According to her agency CV her only dance training is Breakdancing,

While I don't think his career boost was directly from being on the show, Chris Hemsworth was on the Australian version while he was still in soaps, and now he's Thor and probably one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. (Not a great dancer though, if an average score of 19/40 is anything to go by)

I really enjoyed it and thought it was very impressive as it was all live. I probably shouldn't admit this, but I think I actually preferred it to the film.

I read a review of Breakfast at Tiffanys with Pixie and they said she only had 2 songs, so it may be more of a role for an actor who sings a bit rather than a singer who acts a bit. They also said most of her dialogue was unintelligible because of the American accent, so it will be interesting to see how Georgia does with that.

She was brilliant in it - the whole cast were great. I really enjoyed it when it was on - hopefully they'll do another one this year too. They might have it on demand still if you want to watch the whole thing - might be something to do over the Easter holidays. Hope you can find it and enjoy!

Chris Hemsworth in tails

Perhaps I'd better not look up any clips of him actually dancing to ruin the image

I've found and ordered the DVD of The Sound of Music live, looking forward to watching it with my daughter over the holidays, thank you both!

I must admit Holly Golightly with a Bury accent crossed my mind But perhaps I'm being unfair to Georgia, I've only watched her on Strictly talking in her strong natural accent.

Does Jay has anything line up ? Other than the bbc sport relief that I heard about ?

Like who is his PR I really thought he would've had a bunch of projects by now so I'm really surprised and confused

Imo Alesha, kara, Abbey, Tom chambers, Russell, Ricky whittle tremendously benefitted from the show. They had really smart agents with them.

Ricky Whittle is now a tv regular in America and just got given his first lead in a series. Even a fairly unpopular contestant from a fairly unpopular series can use the show as a springboard if they play the publicity right.
Here you are Sarah, courtesy of Monkseal.

(Though wouldn't say he was so unpopular - he was runner up )

That was a genuine question. I remember some negative publicity soon after the
finals. He should have won, I think choreography let him down.

I think being arrested on assault charges with around a month of the show to go hurt his chances far more than the choreography.

It was before the finals. I still don't think he gained.

I liked Natalie and Ricky's dancing a lot too. He was a better dancer than Chris Hollins, but Chris's personality came across well in his routines.

I can't agree that Natalie let Ricky down, in fact Natalie and her teaching, dancing and choreo were what kept me voting for them as a couple. I never found Ricky all that likeable despite his dance ability and he certainly had his problems towards the end of the series. In contrast Chris and Ola picked up momentum and popularity on what is a family show.

However doing Strictly did raise Ricky's profile, added to his CV and as other posters have said will have helped him financially as well. It likely did assist him in making a go of things stateside and he's a rare success story out of all the former soap actors who head to LA.

Yes. He's doing well in the US as an actor ; he's a regular in a great tv series. He's even dating the ex of Jared Leto's brother ( Shannon leto) .. ..why am I even mentioning this ? Never mind lol.

And some posters above elaborated on that so yes I would say that Ricky really benefitted from the show.

I loved The Sound of Music live as well. Kara was one of my favourite winners - she was so talented but also had a very warm and likeable personality IMO. It's a shame it didn't work out for her and Artem, I really did think they were genuinely in love and like Flavia and Jimi they didn't try and "sell" their relationship to the media.

Surely, we can't credit Strictly with his US success???.. I still remember all the negative stuff and he was not happy. May be moved to US for a fresh start and it has worked out ( good looking guy). Good luck to him.

The Sound Of Music live dvd I ordered arrived this morning, can't wait to watch it over Easter

Completely agree with you about Kara and Flavia. Whereas despite having a new stage role Georgia still seems determined to promote her relationship with Giovanni as well, and that she needs gravy on her chips I'm a northerner and back in the 90s we had chips and gravy every day for secondary school dinners (healthy), not sure it needs to be Instagram fed to the public and media though! Anything for attention.

Personally I've no problem with anyone making a few quid in the celebrity mags if people are interested enough to want to read it.

Yes, they did a couple of Hello shoots when they first got together (I imagine the money came in handy for all the flights back and forth to LA etc.) but I think they learnt pretty quickly that it's not a good idea to invite people into your private life too much as it just encourages the press to cause trouble when they get the chance. I think they only posted about 3 photos of themselves together on social media during nearly 4 years together and Kara hasn't mentioned her latest relationship on there at all.

It wasn't a criticism from me Ellie1967. I just remembered the article and responded to the point. I guess dealing with celebrity/fame is a learning curve, and as you say, depends on your circumstances at a given time.
