Totally agree. I hope the new BBC charter doesn't do anything stupid.

So what do you think of those outfits - and do you think they are suitable for a Garden Party in the afternoon ?
... and Joan Collins do you like that too ?

This is Georgia May Foote last night at the High Street Fashion Awards (yes, High Street which I know is very down market for some of you ) - but as we are sharing :

http://www.express.co.uk/celebrity-n...-Street-Awards

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...on-Awards.html

I think she got it just right for an early evening affair - but possibly you will find it too generic !

BTW I absolutely adore Pixie's dress - it is really beautiful !
I would just question it's suitability for a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace - but then she is gorgeous and young so it probably doesn't matter.

I was more interested in Pixie's comments as an ambassador for the Trust but also thought the photo of Pixie and Fearne together was particularly lovely, like the one of them laughing with Prince Charles too. I particularly love Pixie's dress but think they both look pretty and are very much wearing their own styles. Suitable? Yes, I think Prince Charles wants ambassadors that are relatable to the young people he works with and I'm sure he's seen a tattoo before

Joan Collins looks utterly fabulous, I always kind of imagine she dresses up like that when she's just at home as well

Georgia's dress is lovely, not so sure about Giovanni's suit An event attended by Peter Andre and the Towie gang isn't for me though, much as I love high street fashion

Sorry I was editing my post while you posted actually agreeing with you re Pixie.

I guess if you are doing a populist programme you invite people that young people in general are interested in - being of an age they are not my sort of people either but I try not to sound too snobbish and too intolerant !
Especially as they are young and harmless.
But to be fair none of them were as badly dressed as Dame Joan.

However, I can't take Peter Andre at any cost or Prince Charles for that matter - snobbish or not.

.... and I think you do have to remember that Gio is Italian

The dress doesn't fit very well and as you say is a bit generic, but the colour is lovely on her and she looks happy so she carries it off. Pretty much everyone else there got it so wrong that she ended up being one of the best dressed. I suppose they all had to wear outfits from the High Street - I don't think that is 'down market' and some people can make High Street look expensive, but no one there really managed it.

Oh thanks for the link Ochre, the ladies are looking fabulous as always. Fearne's style reminds me of Dawn O'Porter (whom I adore and live for the day she does Strictly but I fear that it's not her bag) - bold, brave and individual. Love it.

Totally agree. It's a shame because High Street shopping is what the vast majority of people do! I'm certainly not adverse to the odd bit of Tu either It's a pity they couldn't get some people who, as you say, can make High Street look expensive/individual. Not wishing to start a monarchist/republican debate (one has to be so careful these days ) but when Kate Middleton wears High Street she manages to look pretty amazing but I guess in fairness it helps if you have a fantastic figure, a personal hairdresser and the money to buy some fab accessories!

Totally agree with all the extra effort that makes these people stand out from others.
I have never counted her as beautiful. For me, she is very generic and too plastic now. May be I am biased as a republican.

Yes totally agree that some of the High Street garments the Duchess of Cambridge wore in India looked amazing - and yes having really expensive accessories makes a great deal of difference.

Yes, she probably wasn't the best example to use! (I do want her hair/hairdresser though )

Emma Watson is someone with great individual style for me. That's not to say I like every outfit she wears (not keen on the dress with trousers look) but she always looks individual and not a herd follower. I LOVED her dress at the final Potter premier. I'm not as good at finding links as Ochre but I'll give it a go ..

Yes, I assume the event was meant to highlight how great the High Street can be but they could have chosen a much better guest list to show that off (if I was having a classy event I would ban Lizzy Cundy for a start ). I agree about Kate Middleton - I also think it's about posture/elegance, which some people develop with maturity and some people never have (LC again )

Are you saying you don't dress up in your fave Oscar to go to Lidl Sarah? Standards are dropping!!

But yes, she is stunning and an excellent role model for young women in my view.

Too right about posture (she says whilst slumped over her keyboard). Don't they say it can take half a stone off you if you stand up straight?!

I think Emma Watson always looks stunning but I am pretty sure she invariably wears couture clothes - however she obviously knows which Designers to go for or her stylists do.
As we are putting forward women to approve of I think Amal Clooney is always beautifully and appropriately dressed.
She wore the most beautiful gown to last years Met Ball for example - but I have a feeling Amal doesn't shop in the High Street !

When someone I know went to a Buck House Garden Party there were dress code guidelines , which I assume is still the case, so I imagine that anyone actually admitted is wearing outfits that are 'acceptable' (probably one of the few times a 'don't you know who I am' cuts no ice with entry )

That post made me think of some of the outfits at Aintree I like Coleen Rooney as a person (I know her well ) but some of her clothes - eek but, even worse, some of her friends' clothes And the make-up[ Less is more ladies, less is more.

I love Ladies Day at Aintree
I am a bad, bad person.
When you know the Strictly Wardrobe Elves are looking at outfits and criticising the colour, style and fit you know you've got a winner

Edit:
Just looking at the High Street fashion thingy links for completeness.
Not sure about Georgia's dress - colour suits her but the fit seems a bit off somehow, and not a fan of the Bardot neckline in general - its something I never feel comfortable wearing so it does colour how I look at the style. I can honestly say that if Mrs Andre's dress was haute couture I'd still think it was horrid. Looks like something knocked up out of a couple of doilies and an antimacassar.

This dress is gorgeous and Emma looks amazing.

I like her but have seen her in a few outfits that i have not been that keen on.

Do agree Georgia's dress didn't fit right but she did look lovely.

Not found pic yet of Joan Collins.

ETA Oh dear Joan

But would the material of his suit pass British fire safety standards? I thought he could have got the high street fashion memo.

I'll take snobbish and intolerant if it means I don't need to read about the Towie cast

I have a lot of respect for the work Prince Charles does with the Prince's Trust, great to see Pixie and Fearne there.
