very true. Or when people like Mark Wright get 'papped' in Brentwood High St ostentatiously carrying a box of detox tea (making sure the brand name is visible at all times) . Then again, apparently the Kardashians can earn around $10k per advertising tweet, so we're obviously in the wrong business!

It's crazy, isn't it? I can't imagine anyone bringing in that much custom to make it worthwhile. Would anyone really have hair extensions because a zeleb had 'endorsed' them or pick a dentist because a sleb had posted a selfie with them?*

(* if the sleb in question was the oddly veneered Jodie Marsh, all it would make me do is run at speed in the other direction )

Yep, it only ever works for me in the other direction. I don't think I've ever bought something because of a celeb but I have been put off brands if they're endorsed by a celeb I've taken a (sometimes irrational) dislike to . Not that I could afford most of the clothes/holidays they plug anyway

Your last sentence made me laugh - on my 'you might also be interested in' page on Instagram this morning there was a photo of some man with big blindingly white teeth posing with his dental assistant and thanking the practice for their great work and I thought to myself I'd rather it was kept quiet if I was responsible for that. I'm pretty sure my dentist would think I was nuts if I asked him to take a selfie with me after he'd finished my check-up .

Hi Ochre. Usually I am hanging around the "Spoiler" thread for results on Saturday
evening. Thanks to Abigailsmum we get the results. Sometimes she is looking for moles to give the results. If I am lucky, I can be the mole on that day. I am sure you will hanging around that thread too.
I can never wait till Sunday evening,

This is the link, There is only one page for all the shows. If you just want Strctly, you would only choose entertainment.

Good luck.

So true. I think that is reason the celebrities build up their Twitter and Instagram
followers and use that as bargaining chip for deals. I am not on Instagram and on Twitter, I only follow normal people.

That said, when the time comes and when I want to get some cosmetic ( yes I am superficial) surgery, I will look at some celebrities and then choose their surgeon, some one I can afford. Problem is these celebrities who put everything on Instagram, will never publish that they have had a nose job or plastic surgery.

Same here. Sometimes when we go out, I record the show and watch, but will never go to bed without the spoiler results.

I didn't watch it but I just followed your link - I thought that was absolutely dreadful !
Moon River has been one of my faves since the early 60s and has been sung by some amazing people but you can't beat Audrey :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uirBWk-qd9A

I think sometimes unless you are very gifted it is probably better to stick to the original tune ! There is something so innocent and appealingly in character the way the song was treated in the film - just a mixed up girl singing to herself !
I really hope that is how the other two young women taking over this part sing it.

BIB Ha ha there's a surprise

Each to their own, I love Pixie's voice and her version. Having recently read the novella Pixie's a perfect fit for Holly as Truman Capote wrote the character.

Pixie's been clear in interviews that the play is based on the book rather than the film and she's playing the role her own way, not trying to copy Audrey. Truman Capote's Holly certainly isn't innocent.

I hope you enjoy Georgia's version of Holly more though.

I think the casting people have been very clever - they've cast someone who is more Holly-from-the-book (I read it before seeing the film way back when and was a bit disappointed and baffled. It was one of my first experiences of the ... liberties ... that could be taken between book and adaptations) and the the other 2 are what people would expect of a more 'traditional' Holly. All bases covered

(If anyone is thinking of going to see the play, I would advise them to a) not rewatch the film first and b) read the novel else disappointment and confusion may ensue.

It's probably heresy, but I didn't like Audrey Hepburn in the film - in fact, I didn't like the film when I first saw it. I've watched it since and enjoyed it more with distance between reading the novel - but as a film in its own right which just happens to share a title

From what I can remember of the Holly of my imaginings, Pixie sings the song as I would expect book-Holly to and I imagine it sits better in the context of the play, if it is truer to the book than the film (not hard!) sung in that way. It seems the director/producers have taken something closely associated with the film and reworked it to fit with the original characters and story lining? (Would you say that's about it, Ochre, from you're recent reading?)

I imagine that while each of the 3 young actresses playing the part will bring something of themselves to the role, the role as written will remain the same - so again, anyone going should really put all thoughts of the film-Holly out of their head.

I haven't read the book, and don't remember Audrey singing the song as I didn't watch the film the whole way through, so can go with an open mind when I see the play in two weeks time.

I first read the book in the 1960s and am fully aware of what the character of Holly is all about - However, underneath the call girl/brash exterior is the frightened little girl who sings to herself for comfort ... if you want to stay true to the book then I doubt Truman would have envisaged his Holly belting out discordant notes as though to an audience when it is supposed to be a private moment which is overheard by accident ... as you say each to her own but I like an element of acting in there somewhere when people sing !
Try Barbra Streisand's version :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ-KPwD1eno

She manages to make it her own while still keeping in tune - as well as bringing out the true emotion of the music and lyrics.

It is total heresy - you didn't like Audrey ?
She is totally iconic in that film - and it was a film very, very loosely based on the Truman Capote short story as it was known at the time - I notice recently people calling it a novella !
(My original old penguin calls it a collection of short stories.)

The film is so evocative of it's time - right down to the gorgeous fashions and obviously the Henry Mancini score - for a whole generation Audrey will forever be Holly !
Just for example as Liza Minnelli will always be Sally Bowles even though she also is nothing like Christopher Isherwood's original.

Film only succeeds if it has a life and concept of its own and doesn't slavishly follow the original text don't you think ?

A bit like cover versions of songs, huh?

When I'm reading, the characters become vivid to me. I read The book/novel/short story/whatever we're calling it at school for an English project and then saw the film almost immediately after and there was, for me, a huge disconnect and I just couldn't engage with either Film-Holly or the film at all. Thought it was a load of over-rated nonsense

I would advise any of the generation who think Audrey is Holly not to be too disappointed whoever they see playing the role in the play.

To be honest Marilyn Monroe who someone suggested Capote would have liked in the role is almost too much like a tragic Holly.

But I think when viewing films you have to remember the era they were made in ... BAT would be a very different film if it was remade today !

I can well understand their decision to include 'Moon River' in the play, even though it's the iconic song from the film and not from the book it's what many people will be expecting to hear. For me the soulful, wandering style and knowing way Pixie sings it resonate more with how I imagined Holly singing when reading.

I've read Pixie plays her as ambitious, manipulative yet tragic which fits book Holly for me.

You've made some good points about the casting too aggs, I guess they're trying to strike a balance between doing something truer to the book and drawing on the popular appeal of the film to increase audiences. I hope people aren't disappointed, it's a captivating, gritty story and a favourite of mine
