I thought we were approving of him because he didn't do interviews about this situation !
So I take it Lou and Ochre will be upset to see this - will they be upset by the new raunchy photos in the 2017 calendar - we will see ?

I take it the horrid weasel Dan Wootton has editorialised this interview - it would seem odd to disapprove of two single people getting together yet approve of a man leaving his wife and children and siring a baby with his mistress while still married - but maybe I am just old fashioned about these things

BIB Definitely.

I'd just read this and posted elsewhere on Lou's other thread. His comments about Elena and Olivia are open, genuine and lovely (his relationship with his daughter really does melt my heart) and from this interview his leaving sounds like a mutual decision at least if it was not completely his own.

I did note the mention of certain calendar shots being banned (is the 2017 edition available for pre order?)

I also appreciated his warmth towards Kristina.

Sincerely wish Gleb and his family all the best, hopefully we haven't seen the last of him over here even though he won't be returning to Strictly.

I'm not sure why you're asking me anyone will tell you I wasn't the biggest Gleb fan last series, but read that and thought he came across well - and it was nice the warm way he spoke about friends he has had for years. Surely you must have experience of sticking up for friends, even if privately you don't totally agree with choices they make?

I wasn't asking you aggs, I named the people I was 'asking' - I wasn't his biggest fan either !

I think he served Anita very badly - his choreography was aimed at self promotion and not showing her to her best advantage.
I am afraid the 'rampant crab; etc left me cold and I certainly saw enough of his torso to last me a lifetime.
I certainly wouldn't want a calendar which exposed even more of him - but I guess there are some silly women who will go out and buy it !
So the interview will have served its purpose.

Calendars seem to be quite an accepted way of promo and money making - heck, if Cliff Richard is still churning them out there is obviously a market for them. I'd say that most of the pro's on Strictly see Strictly as a gateway to increasing their marketability and job prospects be it from calendars (of which there are a few culprits), fitness DVD's, fitness programmes, own tours, lessons, Strictly tours, cruises, the chance to appear on other shows.

Just appearing as a pro on Stricly ups the profile by the very nature of it. Any dancer wanting to keep a low profile wouldn't agree to be on it in the first place

Yes you are absolutely right - but generally speaking any form of self promotion is unreasonably deplored by some people on this thread !
Unless their particular favourites indulge in it obviously, in which case it is found to be warm, open and lively etc etc
How they don't recognise their own constant hypocrisy is a mystery to me.

BIB - loving that comparison

You've summed it up perfectly. Any pro or celebrity does the show to improve or increase (they're two different things!) their profile, that's a given surely. I interpret Gleb's interview as him saying "this is why I'm not returning, nothing to see here, let's move on from analysing the politics and let's get on with focussing on what's important - the dancing". And that is what he known for, dancing, not his personal "relationships".

Totally agree, Lou Media wants to know why is he not coming back and he has to speak to them. I wish he would have just said I was let go. The more I think about it, if he was leaving, he could have told the public earlier, like Aliona and others. Why wait till the BBC press release.

Good luck to him and his family.

I guess we will never know Sarah. I think he's behaved well and comes over as a really honest man who has learned from his mistakes. The love he has for his wife and daughter comes over really strongly. I hope he does well in his career and I'm looking forward to Masterchef

BIB That's it ? Surely some of them do it because they genuinely love to dance, teach different levels and would like to showcase that to a wider audience ?

Anyone doing it for the lurve of dahnce is in for a shock when they are painted green and have Shrek ears stuck on their head or realise that showcasing their teaching skills ends up with being dragged across the floor like a sack of spuds to a soft rock ballad.

Anyone wanting to keep a lo-pro would not sign up for a weekly, prime time, 3 monthly show with a weekly spin off they have to appear on/be part of and all the associated gubbins that goes with a slot on a 'flag ship' programme.

I wondered the same, Sarah but it must have been removed - I'm assuming more squabbling after my post as I went out after that and when I got back the thread was gone??

Maybe one day people will learn to have a discussion without being rude or making snide digs at other posters (this goes for posters both sides of the argument!!) but as this is DS, I won't hold my breath

Hi Sarah

My guess would be the extended discussion of other threads within it.

Thank you Sarah, star89 and Ochre for reassuring me that I hadn't imagined posting something in the MF before I went out earlier!

I think it was more it deviated from the DS prime directive - post not poster. That and the Mods were probably a bit bored before kick off. Big Brother forum isn't the work it once was, the referendum seems to have gone quiet, Top Gear is old news. They probably wanted to put a thread in the cellar to remind them of the good old days

The discussion was actually getting back to Gleb and the 'Strictly Curse'.

Loving the self righteous viewpoint

Sorry, what part of Star's post was self righteous? Objective and truthful observations is what I read, and she was at pains to stress that 'snide comments' came from 'both sides of the argument'. As always in these situations, Star makes a measured post which contains no personal insults to either celebrities or posters, and I think other posters and indeed people who use social media generally would be wise to follow in that example.
